UHS sprints past Bucs late for win

MORGANTOWN -- Matt Clawges scored on a 37-yard run and caught touchdown passes of 29 and 58 yards to lead the Hawks past the Buccaneers, 46-17, Friday night at Pony Lewis Field.

University broke a 21-14 lead open in the third quarter, scoring 25 points and 32 total unanswered points.

Quarterback Justin Hostetler completed 5 of 8 passes for 176 yards and the pair of touchdowns. Stan Wilt returned a fumble 28 yards for a touchdown for Buckhannon-Upshur.

n MORGANTOWN 31, Fairmont Senior 13: In Fairmont, Spencer Farley scored on runs of 9, 22 and 33, as the Mohigans scored 31 unanswered points.

Josh Durham also had a 76-yard touchdown run for Morgantown, who ran for a total of 279 yads. Patrick Shadle also kicked a 47-yard field goal.

Matt Beerbower scored for Fairmont Senior on a pass from D.J. Mugnano, and Drew Mauck had a 3-yard touchdown run. Mugnano completed 9 of 17 passes for 157 yards.

n VALLEY WETZEL 41, Hundred 6: Walker Cocher rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown, and teammate Zack Ueltschy added 120 yards and two scores on eight carries as Valley Wetzel got its first victory of the season.

The Lumberjacks (1-2) took a 35-0 lead at halftime highlighted by Seth Brown's 33-yard TD run and Ueltschy's 54-yard score.

Valley held the Hornets (0-3) to just 130 yards of total offense and scored two defensive touchdowns. Ueltschy returned a fumble 30 yards in the first quarter for a touchdown, and teammate Byron Pyles recovered another fumble in the end zone for the Lumberjacks final score.
