Local rail trails officials hope the nation might soon discover North Central West Virginia.
Next week, the Shinnston and Harrison County Rail Trails will have a chance to be featured in a national television ad.
The Ford Adventure Team is on its way to Harrison County and is scheduled to arrive here Tuesday for a promotional event, said Robin Davis, a Shinnston Rail Trail official.
"We are part of the American Discovery Trail, which goes from Connecticut to California," she said. "Ford and Backpacker Magazine are kicking off the year by visiting the trail."
The team was scheduled to spend this weekend on the North Bend Rail Trail, Davis said. The team will make a stop on the Shinnston trail at North View Elementary School at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
"They will have a film crew with them," Davis said. "There is a possibility that (the footage) could end up in a promo for the ADT, but I can't guarantee that."
Local organizers will have children from 4-H clubs and Scouts on hand for the team's visit, she said. Harrison County school students are on spring break next week.
While there, the children will make a presentation to team members, Davis said. Then, the team will talk to the kids and shoot the film footage.
After visiting the school Tuesday, the team will make several stops on the Harrison County Rail Trail, Davis said.
The Ford Adventure Team started its journey along America's rail trials in Connecticut and will work its way to California, Davis said. It was scheduled to enter West Virginia near Parkersburg today.
