An alternative to relocating UHC
The relocation of United Hospital Center is absurd, preposterous and bodes ill for the economic well-being of Clarksburg, Harrison County and North Central West Virginia.
When a person has to wait one to two hours to see a doctor, there is something wrong. With the continued economic growth of North Central West Virginia, this area could support another hospital, just like it did before, when St. Mary's Hospital existed.
The following is my suggestion toward the resolution of this problem:
1. Keep UHC where it currently is and build a southern expressway near the hospital, connecting U.S. Route 50 and I-79, which will boost the economy in the area and make access to the hospital easier.
2. Build a new hospital called the Metro Medical Center, which should be located near I-79 in the northern end of the county.
Relocating UHC could be devastating to the Clarksburg economy and the businesses that rely upon it to operate. This suggested two-step plan would benefit all of North Central West Virginia and give us a leg up in stepping into the 21st century.
CHIP program not very efficient
I read the item in the paper about the CHIP program. No wonder there's $23 million in unspent funds. I signed my granddaughter up for CHIP in January. As of today, we still have not heard anything.
I called CHIP. They said to call the welfare department. I called them, but they said they must have lost the application and to fill out another one and send it in.
I just hope the 18,000 kids who signed up on March 5 don't have to go through what we have gone through. There is something seriously wrong with this program that needs to be investigated. Just a word from the wise.
