Marie Rogers dies at 102

JANE LEW -- Miss Marie Rogers, 102, a resident of the Heritage Inc. of Bridgeport, formerly of Jane Lew and a retired school teacher, died Monday, May 21, 2001.

She was born Sept. 24, 1898 in Lewis County, the daughter of the late George Melvin and Martha Jane Miller Rogers.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Mark, Cephas, Marion and Luke Rogers, and one sister, Blanche Rogers.

Miss Rogers taught in the elementary schools at Jane Lew during her entire teaching career. She was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College and attended West Virginia University.

She was a member of the National Education Association, the West Virginia Education Association, the Harrison County Retired Teachers, the Clarksburg Woman's branch of the American Association of University Women, the Clarksburg Woman's Club and the Clarksburg Baptist Church.

Friends will be received at the Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew, from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Broad Run Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Broad Run Cemetery. She will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour before service.

Morris Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
