ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Penn State's Rashard Casey threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Florida State's Ryan Sprague ,as Team Florida beat Team USA 10-0 on Saturday in the Rotary Gridiron Classic.
Casey, the game's offensive and overall MVP, connected with Sprague with 6:17 remaining in the third quarter. Casey was 6-of-15 for 66 yards, and rushed for 41 yards on seven carries.
Team USA had an opportunity to tie it when Cincinnati quarterback Deontey Kenner moved the team to Florida's 6. But on a third-and-goal play, Florida's Chris Edmonds of West Virginia made a one-handed interception.
"I kind of knew he was going to throw it to me," Edmonds said. "I'm the kind of guy that if the ball hits my hand, I'm going to catch it. He threw it to me two times before and I knocked them down. I was like three times must be the charm."
Edmonds, who also had a pass breakup, was the defensive MVP.
"When you see a guy make an athletic play, those are things you don't coach," Team Florida coach Linde Infante said. "You can't coach guys to be athletes. You can coach them where to go and how to get there and the techniques of the game, but none of us can make the guy an athlete. If a guy makes an athletic play, that speaks volumes for him."
Team USA then forced Florida to punt, but USA quarterback Ortege Jenkins of Arizona was sacked and fumbled. Florida recovered and went 12 yards in six plays, resulting in a 23-yard field goal by Brian Kopka of Maryland for a 10-0 lead with 2:07 remaining in the game.
"As a quarterback, you have to get into your rhythm early," Jenkins said. "The offense struggled in the first quarter. We moved the ball some into the red zone but we couldn't finish it. Other than that, we had a good time."
USA put together one final drive, moving 74 yards in 12 plays. Kenner's fourth-and-goal pass attempt fell incomplete as time expired.
Florida didn't manage much more offense, gaining 222 total yards and converting 3-of-12 third-down attempts.
Syracuse's Dee Brown for 39 yards on nine carries for Team Florida, and UNLV's Jeremi Rudolph had 28 yards on eight attempts. Quarterback Jesse Palmer of Florida was 6-of-15 for 66 yards. Sprague led all Florida receivers with four catches with 43 yards.
Kenner was 13-of-28 for 140 yards but was intercepted twice and sacked two times. Jenkins was 3-of-7 for 69 yards. Auburn's Ronney Daniels led all receivers with five catches for 89 yards.
Wisconsin's Vitaly Pisetsky had a chance to give Team USA a lead but missed a 30-yard field goal 3:34 before halftime.
