Upshur County is expected to get good economic news today.

Gov. Bob Wise and top officials will be on hand to announce a significant economic development project for the county at a press conference on the courthouse plaza at 11 a.m. today.

The project, which combines the efforts of Dominion and Anker Energy, will "provide economic and environmental benefits to the state and region," said Dominion spokesperson Bob Fulton.

Several area and state representatives will be present for the announcement, he said.

Dominion is one of the world's largest power companies, with more than 4 million electricity and natural gas customers.

Anker Energy is a large state corporation based in Morgantown. Its primary interest is coal mining.
