NUTTER FORT -- Santa Claus is coming to town.
The Nutter Fort Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a visit by Old St. Nick on Sunday.
"We are going to take Santa on fire truck rides through the communities of Nutter Fort, Rosebud Trailer Park, Quiet Dell, Suds Run, Chub Run, Zacks Run and all the way to the Barbour County line and to Lost Creek," said Fire Chief Tom Rohrbough.
Santa will be delivering more than 2,000 pounds -- a ton -- of candy to children in exchange for canned goods for area food banks.
"This has been a tradition of the fire department for over 35 years. We had a record year last year and were able to fully supply three food banks," said Rohrbough. "We want to surpass that this year."
The chief said firefighters use five fire engines to make sure they can visit all the children beginning at noon that day. He said the community response has been tremendous. One Nutter Fort resident gave a $1,000 cash donation last year.
"It takes a lot of pre-planning," said Rohrbough.
