Minutemen improve to 2-0 under Vincent

BUCKHANNON -- The Lewis County Minutemen, under first-year coach Brett Vincent, improved to 2-0 with a 52-43 victory over rival Buckhannon-Upshur.

The two victories equal last season's wins total.

Kevin Butcher led Lewis County with 16 points, connecting on 8 of 9 shots, while teammate Jordan Parker followed with 12 points.

The Minutemen trailed 10-5 at the end of the first quarter, but used a 15-8 second quarter scoring advantage to take a 20-18 lead at halftime.

n PARKERSBURG SOUTH 68, R.C. Byrd 66: Nick Squires scored 23 points, and teammate Matt Shamblin added 16 to lead Parkersburg South to an overtime victory over Robert C. Byrd.

Bobby Buffey and R.J. Coleman led the Eagles (1-1) with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

n DODDRIDGE 69, Paden City 35: Dru Ross scored a game-high 19 points as the Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season.

Brad Wilt added 12 and Josh Sheets 10 as Doddridge held the Wildcats to 35-percent shooting from the floor and only 12 second-half points.

n LIBERTY AT CLAY-BATTELLE POSTPONED: The Liberty at Clay-Battelle basketball game was postponed Friday following a electrical problem at Clay-Battelle High School.

n EAST FAIRMONT 57, Robert C. Byrd 44: Amber Glover and Ashley Zaccagnini each scored 14 points to help lead East Fairmont past Robert C. Byrd.

Ann Marie Murray added 11 points for the Bees (3-1). Megan Graeber and Keisha Bowsman scored 15 and 10 points, respectively, for the Eagles (0-4).

n NICHOLAS COUNTY 60, Lewis County 52: Kate Lucas scored a game-high 26 points to lead Nicholas County over Lewis County.

Jaime Parker led the Minutemaids (2-3) with 13 points, and teammates Audra Hall and Amy Davis added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
