Bridgeport High names
Students of the Month
Jeremy Thompson and Emily Nease have been named Students of the Month for November at Bridgeport High School.
Thompson is a son of Dr. Ronald Thompson and Judith Thompson. He is president of the Art Club, a member of the Student Science Bowl and JETS.
He ran track his sophomore and junior years and ran cross country his junior and senior years. He attended Math Field Day, the Governor's Honors Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy's Summer Scientific Seminar.
He was a candidate for the '94-95 National Ski Patrol and a former member of a Boy Scout troop, serving as patrol leader and quartermaster.
He plans to attend an out-of-state university and major in engineering or biology-chemistry.
Nease, daughter of Scott and Claudia Nease, is a member of the Student Council, Key Club, Teen Institute and the French Honorary. She is a member of the concert and marching bands in which she is head majorette. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, listed in Who's Who American High School Students and was chosen to attend Rhododendron Girls State. She is also active with her church youth group.
Upon graduation, she plans to attend college.
Liberty High names its Students of the Month
Josh N. Diaz and Destini L. Dennison have been named September Students of the Month at Liberty High School. J.G. Cutlip and Jennifer Fluharty have been named October Students of the Month.
Diaz is a member of the National Honor Society, the golf team, the Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS), Future Business Leaders of America and the Prom Committee. He attended Mountaineer Boys State.
Diaz is the son of John F. Diaz and Sabina Parks.
He plans to attend West Virginia University and major in engineering.
Dennison is a member of the National Honor Society, JETS and Key Club.
She has been a member of the yearbook staff for two years and now serves as its editor.
She is the daughter of Robert and Woody Dennison.
She plans to attend West Virginia University and major in electrical and computer engineering.
Cutlip is president of JETS, attended Mountaineer Boys State, and is a member of the marching, concert and jazz bands.
He is sports editor of Liberte', the school yearbook. He has been on the Liberty golf team for two years.
Cutlip is the son of David and Lynn Cutlip of Salem.
He plans to attend West Virginia University and major in engineering.
Fluharty is a member of the Pep Club, Key Club, Youth for Jesus, Drama Club, and concert and jazz bands.
She serves as drum major in the marching band and has been selected for All-County Band the last three years.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Fluharty of Salem, Fluharty hopes to attend Northwestern University and pursue a career in music education.
Robert C. Byrd students honored
Robert C. Byrd High School's Girl of the Month and Boy of the Month for November have been announced.
Mary Helen Shields is Girl of the Month.
She has participated in the band for four years, including the marching band for four years, the concert band for one year and the symphonic band for three years.
She ran track her freshman and sophomore years, and has been a member of the swim team for four years.
Her other activities include HUGGED, National Honor Society, Who's Who Among American High School Students, and she attended Rhododendron Girls' State.
She is a member of Our of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church. She is involved in the youth group there and serves as a eucharistic minister.
She plans to attend WVU in fall 1997.
Jason Genin is Boy of the Month.
His school activities include freshman and varsity football. He is also a member of HUGGED, Student Council and National Honor Society.
His awards and honors include the West Virginia Govenors Honors Academy, National Youth Leadership Forum in Medicine, Who's Who Among American High School Students, Student Athlete All-American and Mountaineer Boys' State.
He is a member of the All-County football team, All-Big Ten football team and All Monongahela Valley football team.
He is a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, where he is an altar server and a member of the youth group.
He plans to attend college in the fall.
