Nancy A. Brady

BLACKSVILLE -- Nancy A. Bell Brady, 63, of Arlington, Va., formerly of Core, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at John Hopkins University Hospital.
She was born April 23, 1935, in Cassville, a daughter of the late John and Edna Shrader Bell.
Her husband of 33 years, Claude P. Brady, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Cynthia Green, Highlands, Texas; seven grandchildren, Sarah Whiddon and Emily Powers, both of Chantilly, Va., Mikal Green, Chesterland, Ohio, James Green, Russell, Ohio, Lance Corporal Marc Green, Twentynine Palms, Calif., Rebekah and Sharon Green, Highlands, Texas; three brothers, Richard Bell and wife, Jacqueline, Cleveland, Ohio, John Bell Jr., Core, and Fredrick Bell and wife, Ruth, Fairview; seven nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Richard Allen Whiddon.
Mrs. Brady retired from the federal government afer spending 28 years working in the office of the secretary of the Air Force and the office of the Secretary of Defense. After retirement she continued working with John Hopkins School of Advance International Studies, Center for Strategic and Internal Studies and the Harold Brown Consulting.
Outside of her career she devoted her life to her family and the Transplant Recipients Internatioanl organizations.

John K. Costelac

SHINNSTON -- John Keith Costelac, 59, of Miami, Fla., formerly of Enterprise, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 3, 1940, in Enterprise, a son of Lawrence A. and Julia Basagic Costelac, Enterprise.
Also surviving are one son, John Keith Costelac Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.; one daughter, Shannon Lynn Costelac, Miami; one grandson, Dylan Lindo and his fiance, Clara Shuster; two stepchildren, Christy and Marvin Shuster; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence G. Costelac.
Mr. Costelac was a visiting teacher for the Dade County Board of Education with over 36 years in the education field. He was a graduate of West Virginia University with a master's degree in education. He was Catholic and attended the St. Steven's Catholic Church in Miramar, Fla.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Monday at the Dorsey Funeral Home in Shinnston. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Father Karl Wohinc officiating. Interment will follow in the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.

Eugene Costilow

PENNSBORO -- Eugene Costilow, 82, of Lorain, Ohio, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, in Amherst, Ohio.
He was born in April of 1917, in Ritchie County, a son of the late Berkley and Minnie Cline Costilow.
His first wife, Kathleen Davis Costilow, and his second wife, Esther Radclif Costilow, preceded him in death.
Surviving are four sons, Donald L. Costilow, Crystal Lake near West Union, Dean A. Costilow, Canton, Ohio, Dennis C. Costilow and David L. Costilow, both of Lorain; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ralph Costilow, California.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Riley Costilow.
Mr. Costilow was retired as an operator for the former Toledo, Lorain and Fairport Dock companies. He was a member of the Lorain Masonic Lodge No. 552, the Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland, and the Christ United Methodist Church of Lorain.

Dorothy Gates

FLEMINGTON -- Dorothy Gates, 85, of Flemington, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at the Grafton City Hospital, Grafton.
She was born Dec. 5, 1913, in Harrison County, a daughter of the late Jess and Annie Snider Allman.
Her husband, Thomas J. Gates, preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1984.
Surviving are one daughter-in-law, Virginia Gates, Keyser; one granddaughter, Thomasina Ferguson, Galveston, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Thomas Gates and three brothers, R.W. "Bob," Ray and Jerald Allman.
Mrs. Gates was a member of the Flemington Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was the former recorder for the Town of Flemington and had lived in the Flemington Community since 1929.

Carl W. Jackson Sr.

Carl Wilbert Jackson Sr., 78, of 915 West Pike St., Clarksburg, died at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
He was born in Clarksburg, Oct. 13, 1920, a son of the late Hugh and Elda Frye Jackson.
His wife, Louise Murphy Jackson, preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 1991.
Surviving are four sons, Robert, Steve and Roy Jackson, all of Clarksburg, and Carl Jackson, Shinnston; two daughters, Linda Furner, Clarksburg, and Jeannie Jo Richards, Bradshaw; two brothers, Herman Jackson, Glen Falls, and Willard Jackson, Clarksburg; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Jackson was a member of the Clarksburg Church of God, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a carpenter. He had been employed by Eagle Convex Glass for 42 years.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main St., Clarksburg, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Michael Richards and the Rev. Wayne DeHart conducting the service. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery where Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 573 and American Legion Post No. 13 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites.

Lena G. Linger

BUCKHANNON -- Lena Gae Cutright Linger, 86, of Parkersburg, formerly of Tennerton, died Thursday, July 1, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.
She was born Feb. 3, 1913, in Gould, a daughter of the late Glen L. and Daisy A. Crites Cutright.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Macil G. Cutright, and is survived by her second husband, Glenn J. Linger.
Also surviving are one son, Keith Cutright, Parkersburg; one foster daughter, Julia Bell, Virginia Beach, Va.; one grandson, David Cutright, Parkersburg; one granddaughter, Melanie Cutright, Little Hocking, Ohio; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rena M. McKisic and Roberta Cutright and one brother, Russell E. Cutright.
Mrs. Linger attended the Tennerton United Methodist Church.

Kathleen V. Messenger

BRIDGEPORT -- Kathleen V. Messenger, 73, of Route 2, Route 73, Bridgeport, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
She was born Jan. 14, 1926, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Roy Clifford Hall and Victoria Ridgeway Hall.
Her husband, Jack Messenger, preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Victoria "Vicky" Messenger, with whom she made her home, and Mrs. Denny ("J.D.") Owen, Bridgeport; and one grandson, Matthew Owen, Bridgeport.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. James (Helen) Morgan.
Mrs. Messenger was retired from Bell Atlantic where she was a telephone operator. She was a member of the Boothsville Baptist Church and the Telephone Pioneers.
She was a graduate of Washington Irving High School.
Friends may call at the Allen Funeral Home, Bridgeport, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Orville Wright officiating. Interment will be in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

Anthony T. Oliverio

Anthony T. "Tony" Oliverio, 90, of 703 Clark St., Clarksburg, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, June 30, 1999, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
He was born on June 29, 1909, in Highland, Marion County, a son of the late Thomas Oliverio and Mary Angotti Oliverio.
His wife, Louise Oliverio, preceded him in death on May 17, 1982.
Surviving are two sisters, Catherine A. Oliverio, Clarksburg, and Mrs. Lewis E. (Julia Chorinda) Wilhelm, Bridgeport.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, John Oliverio and to sisters, Victoria Dolcimascola and Mary Regina "Jeanie" Morse.
Mr. Oliverio graduated from Washington Irving High School in 1926 and graduated from the School of Business Administration University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. in 1933.
He was a member of the varsity football team, Phi Beta Kappa and a U.S. veteran of World War II with the Naval Supply Office CB at Davisville, R.I.
Mr. Oliverio was also a member of the West Milford Lions Club, the Columbian Club and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He was an employee of the B.F. Goodrich Co., manager of the B.F. Goodrich Store on North Sixth Street in Clarksburg, and transferred to the B.F. Goodrich Store in Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1965 and retired in 1970.
While in Pittsburgh, he served as executive secretary of the Tire Dealers Association of Western Pennsylvania from 1970-90. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Clarksburg.
Friends will be received from 1-9 p.m. today at the Bartolo Funeral Home, 515 West Pike St. in Clarksburg. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at noon Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Cesidio J. Federico as celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. A scriptual wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW and the American Legion No. 13.

Antoni Portas

WESTON -- Antoni "Andy" Portas, 87, of 213 South Main Ave., Weston, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born on July 7, 1911, in Poland.
He married Wilma Portas, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Taylor, Route 1, Buckhannon; one son, Stanley Portas, Portland, Ore.; two grandchildren, Christine Sustakoski, Roanoke, Va., and Donald Wayne Taylor, Lincolnton, N.C.
Mr. Portas was retired from the West Virginia Glass Specialty Co. with several years of service. He was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. today at the Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Ave. in Weston. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Leo Lydon as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Machpelah Cemetery.

Leslie M. Sachs Sr.

Leslie M. Sachs Sr., 70, of Route 1, Box 263R, Weston, died at 4:31 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
He was born in Akron, Ohio, April 6, 1929, a son of the late James Frederick and Eunice Payton Sachs.
Surviving is his wife, Dorothy Bright Sachs, whom he married Jan. 18, 1951.
Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Leslie and Debbie Sachs Jr. and Bernard and Tina Sachs, all of Weston; one sister, Ruth Orem, Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren, Melissa, Bruce, Nicole, Crystal and Jimmy; and two great-grandchildren, Abby and Dokota.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James and Paul Sachs and three sisters, Frances Greathouse and infants Lucille and Wanda Sachs.
Mr. Sachs was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Right Hand Fork, Freemansburg. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Libertarian Party.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a crane operator and had been employed by Republic Steel in Warren, Ohio, from March 1955 until March 1985.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main St., Clarksburg, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today. The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wilbert McGinnis presiding. Interment will be in Stonewall Park Cemetery, Stonewood.

James C. Steele

GASSAWAY -- James C. Steele, 66, of Flaherty, Ky., formerly of Gassaway, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Elizabethtown, Ky., following a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 17, 1932, in Gassaway, a son of the late Curtis and Stella Wagner Hensley Steele.
Surviving is his wife, Willa Jean Fisher Steele.
Also surviving are one daughter, Sarah Steele, Flaherty; five sons, Rev. James Steele, Philippi, Rev. Charles Steele, Frametown, Richard Steele, Flaherty, Michael Steele and Kelly Steele, both of Statesville, N.C.; one sister, Bonnie Workman, Exchange; one half brother, Delmar Hensley, Lorain, Ohio; 11 grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Curtis Wayne Steele and one granddaughter, Holly Elizabeth Steele.
Mr. Steele was an orderly for the Summersville Memorial Hospital and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was Protestant.
