Bertus M. Craig

KINGWOOD -- Bertus "Bert" Martin Craig, 90, of Kingwood, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Preston Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 12, 1908, on the "Willow Spring Farm" at Snyder, Preston County, a son of the late Charles Arnold "Jay" and Mary Avice Martin Craig.

His wife of 63 years, Pauline Gilmore Craig, preceded him in death on March 28, 1997.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, LTC Jay A. and Anita Craig, Kingwood; one daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and William Arnold, Petersburg, and four grandchildren, Amy Rexrode Berg and Robert Rexrode, both of Petersburg, and Kenneth and Christopher Craig, both of Kingwood.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Charles W. Craig, Harold A. Craig and Thomas L. Craig, and five sisters, Virgie Everett, Ella Manown, Mable Gribble, Lula Carrico and Juanita Warfield.

Mr. Craig attended the Kingwood public schools and early in life was employed by the Kingwood Bakery and later by Mountain State Utilities. In 1941 he began work with Ruthbell Coal Corporation, where he worked as an electrician, machinist and superintendent until 1967 when the coal company was sold.

As a result of his ability as a woodworker, he was employed in 1967 with the Sheidow Bronze Corporation. He worked as a pattern maker until he retired in August 1973.

He was a member of the Preston Lodge 90 AF and AM, 32nd Degree, Knights of Pythias, the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department and the Wesley United Methodist Church in Kingwood.

Annie Justice

Annie Lee Justice, 67, of Monongah, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 12, 1930, in Philippi, a daughter of Octavia Newman, Philippi and the late Albert Newman.

Her husband, Aaron Booker Justice Sr., survives. Also surviving are one son, Aaron Justice Jr., and his wife Ann Marie; two daughters and sons-in-law, Alceste (Sissy) and Glenn R. Powell, Friendswood, Texas and Antheia Gayle and Roger L. Blake, Monongah; eight grandchildren, three brothers, Howard Newman, Canton, Ohio, Charles Newman and Donald Newman, both of Philippi; four sisters, Mae Kennedy, Jo Anne Newman, Bessie Croston, and Shirley Newman, all of Philippi, and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Harold Newman and one sister, Elisabeth Hoffman.

Mrs. Justice was a member of the Spruce Street Church of Christ, Fairmont and was a homemaker.

Friends will be received from 1:30-9 p.m. Sunday at Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Oakwood Road Church of Christ with the Evangelist Earl Stevens officiating. The body will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the church. The funeral procession will pass by the family home between 12:20 and 12:35 p.m. Monday. Entombment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Cemetery.

Denzel A. Lambert

Lexie L. Lambert

SHINNSTON -- Denzel A. Lambert, 91, died Monday, June 8, 1998, and Lexie L. Lambert, 87, his wife of 75 years, died on Tuesday, May 5, 1998.

Surviving are one son, Jack Lambert, Lost Creek; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Foreman, Tucson, Ariz., and seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Wallace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Allen officiating.

Thomas A. O'Brien

MORGANTOWN -- Thomas A. O'Brien Sr., 76, of Morgantown and formerly of Clarksburg, died Thursday, 25, 1998, at his residence following a brief illness.

He was born March 23, 1922, in Heschersville, Pa., a son of the late Frances Xavier and Julia Curran O'Brien.

His wife of 55 years, Jessie Bennet O'Brien, survives. Also surviving are two sons, John Patrick, Morgantown and Thomas O'Brien Jr., Homosassa Springs, Fla.; one daughter, Nancy O'Brien, Glendale, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Brandy of Homosassa Springs, and John W. Stanton and spouse, Tracie; two great-granddaughters; one brother, John O'Brien, Claymont, Del.; three sisters, Ann Kozura, Pottsville, Pa., Alma Stramatis, Minersville, Pa., and Kathleen Androschick, St. Clair, Pa. and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Francis, James, Cyril and Joseph O'Brien.

Mr. O'Brien operated a statewide health insurance agency in West Virginia for many years and resided in Morgantown since 1965.

Dasiel Ratliff

GLENVILLE -- Dasiel Ratliff, 84, of Glenville, died at 6:50 a.m. Friday, June 26, 1998, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, following a brief illness.

She was born June 12, 1916, in Napier, Braxton County, a daughter of the late Newton and Janie Taylor Ratliff.

Surviving are one daughter, Patty Putnam, Stouts Mills; two sons, Freddie Ratliff, Stouts Mills and Jimmy Ratliff, Philippi; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Dale "Bobby" Ratliff, and four brothers and five sisters.

Ms. Ratliff was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.

Max H. Rauer

FAIRMONT -- Max H. Rauer Jr., 82, of Monongah, died Friday, June 26, 1998, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.

He was born March 23, 1916, in Fairmont, a son of the late Max Rauer Sr. and Anna Ebach Rauer.

His wife, Thelma Pauline Rauer, preceded him in death.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Brenda Rauer, Inwood and Lanny and Sue, of Amelia, Fla.; one brother, Herbert Rauer, Monongah; one sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Clyde Sypolt, Farmington; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Willy and Elmer Rauer and two sisters, Gertrude Horne and Eva Rauer.

Mr. Rauer was a retired coal miner from Bethlehem Mines Company.

Trevia Stansberry

HARRISVILLE -- Trevia Stansberry, 90, of Smithville, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Pine View Continuous Care, Harrisville.

She was born in Doddridge County, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Mary "Molly" Gaines Kinney.

Her husband, David Franklin Stansberry, preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Elwood Stansberry, Massillon and Jimmy Stansberry, Oxford; one daughter, Patsy Hite, Umatilla, Fla.; two sisters, Gladys Wilson, Clarksburg and Opal Six, Columbus, Ohio; and 34 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by four sons, Franklin Stansberry, Donald Stansberry, Wayne Stansberry and Joe Stansberry, one daughter, Mary Belle Stansberry and one grandson, Stephen Stansberry.

Eva Lee Longacre

WEBSTER SPRINGS -- Eva Lee White Longacre, 97, of Cowen, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at Summersville Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 23, 1900, at Webster Springs, she was the daughter of the late J.F. White and Nancy Ellen Nichols.

Her husband, Glenn V. Longacre Sr., preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, John F. Longacre, Longhorn, Pa., and Glenn V. Longacre Jr., Webster Springs; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Longacre was a graduate of the Kellog School of Physical Education and taught elementary school in Webster County. She was the first girls basketball coach in the county.

She was a former resident of Clarksburg and of Sarasota, Fla. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Clarksburg Womans Club.

She taught floral design at Salem College and in her mid 60s became an accomplished painter.

Friends will be received from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Dodd and Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Nelson Harris officiating. She will be interred at Masonic Cemetery, West Union.

 

Mary L. Burdick

BELINGTON -- Mary Lucille Burdick, 68, of Saginaw, Mich., died Friday, June 26, 1998, in the Home Hospital, West Lafayette, Ind., following an extended illness.

She was born Feb. 23, 1930, at White Oak community near Philippi, a daughter of the late Dallas and Goldie Shaffer Auvil.

Her husband, Dominick Burdick, whom she married July 1950, preceded her in death July 24, 1989.

Surviving are two daughters, Julie Hunter, West Lafayette, and Beatrice Eveland, Marietta, Ohio; three sons, Mark Burdick, Essexville, Mich., Dallas Burdick, East Lansing, Mich., Chris Burdick, Saginaw, Mich.; four brothers, Denzil "Butch" Auvil, Kenneth Auvil and Ralph Auvil, all of Belington, and Dallas Auvil Jr., Painesville, Ohio; one sister, Betty Garrett, Great Falls, Mont., and 21 grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Isner and one brother, George Auvil.

Mrs. Burdick was a 1996 summa cum laude graduate of Saginaw Valley State University with a degree in English literature. She was a homemaker and former bookkeeper for the law firm of Braun, Kendrick and Finkbinder in Saginaw. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Patricia J. Eddy

Patricia Jean Griffith Eddy, 66, of Wolf Summit, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at her residence following an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Harold Kenneth and Virginia "Mammy" Simpson Moore.

Surviving is her companion Jeffrey M. Benninger; two daughters, Jessica Malfregeot, Clarksburg, and Dina McKinney, Nutter Fort; one brother, Harold Moore, Gregory's Run; three sisters, Veronica Claypool, Reynoldsville, Dina Belle Murphy, Bristol, and Nina Bianco, Clarksburg; six grandchildren, Shaunna L. Witt, Tommy Malfregeot, Kerri Malfregeot, Joseph Rae Malfregeot, Brandi K. Mann, and Zachary S. McKinney; three great-granddaughters, Justiz, Josie Rae, Nicole and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Eddy was a retired dietitian with Harrison County Senior Citizens Center. She was a Victory High School graduate and a member of Reynoldsville Baptist Church.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Davis Funeral Home, Clarksburg Chapel, 443 W. Pike St., Clarksburg. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles B. Guthrie, officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Garden.

Jack D. Hayhurst

Jack D. Hayhurst, 73, of Grove Avenue, Clarksburg, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, following a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 26, 1925, in Folsom, a son of the late William Hayhurst and Goldie Malson Hayhurst.

His wife of more than 50 years, Violet R. Hayhurst, survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jerald (Sandra) Buss, Deltona, Fla., Mrs. Joseph (Julia) Newsome, Chesterfield, Va.; one brother, Gerald Hayhurst, Florida; one sister, Marilyn Tallman, Colliers; two grandsons, Jason Buss and Eric Tessenear, and one stepgrandson, David Newsome.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Mr. Hayhurst was an active board member of the Stealey Assembly of God Church on Milford Street. He was retired from AT&T after 33 years service and he served with the U.S. Navy and Air Force during World War II and the Korean War.

Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. today, at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Stealey Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Larry Green officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 10-11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the church.

Winfred F. Mayle

PHILIPPI -- Winfred Franklin Mayle, 63, of Webster community, Route 2, Grafton, died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 1998, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born Aug. 7, 1934, at Philippi, a son of the late Haymond and Bessie Decost Mayle.

His wife, Christina Kennedy Mayle, survives.

He is also survived by one daughter, Patricia Sue Mayle, Webster; five sons, David Mayle, Moatsville, Joseph Haymond Mayle, Donald Mayle, Randall Mayle, all of Canton, Ohio, and Robert Mayle, Malvern, Ohio; one sister, Myrtle Maley, Canton; one half-sister, Agnes Mayle, Canton; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one half sister, Vivian Crabtree, and one half brother, Elwood Kennedy.

Mr. Mayle was a retired construction laborer and a Methodist.

Friends will be received from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. today at Stemple and Forman Funeral Home, Philippi. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home chapel with the Revs. David Maley Winfield Mayle officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Poke Cemetery.

Edward E. Plumley

PARSONS -- Edward Ernest Plumley, 75, a resident of 200 Pennsylvania Ave., Parsons, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.

He was born July 19, 1922, at Quinnamont, a son of the late Ernest and Mary Martin Plumley.

His wife, Lola Mae Stover, whom he married July 9, 1949, survives.

Also surviving are five sons, Thomas Ernest Plumley, Dunmore, Boyd Dwight Plumley, Parsons, Michael Allen Plumley, Stafford, Va., Carl Timothy Plumley, Germantown, Md., and Mickey Raymond Plumley, Lawrenceville, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. David (Joyce) Kyle and Mrs. James (Donna Jean) Bava, both of Hendricks; seven brothers, Charles Plumley, Beckley, Glen Plumley, State College, Pa, Paul Plumley, Justice, Ill., Darrell Plumley, Ashland, Ky., David Plumley, Beckley, Henry Plumley, Mt. Hope, and James Plumley, Missoula, Mont.; six sisters, Ethel Williams, Sand Branch, Raleigh County, Eileen Amole, Avenue, Md., Margaret Sneddon, Wheelersburg, Ohio, Juanita Motor, Beckley, Mary Persinger, Cleveland, Ohio, and Nancy Sweeney, Morgantown, N.C., 15 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Edward E. "Buddy" Plumley, and one infant sister.

Mr. Plumley attended the schools of Raleigh County and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an employee of the former Parsons Tannery Company, and had worked as a general foreman for the Quail Ridge Construction Company and P.C.M., Inc., both of Thomas.

Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today at Barb Funeral Home, Parsons. Final rites will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Eli Hostetler officiating. Interment will follow at Parsons City Cemetery.

Beryl Cora Reed

SHINNSTON -- Beryl Cora Reed, 65, a resident of Fowler's Group Home, Nutter Fort, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg following a sudden illness.

She was born June 18, 1933, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Cecil Reed and Oma B. Layfield Reed Crayton.

Surviving are one brother, Charles Reed, Clarksburg; seven sisters, Mary Gowans, Goldie Riffle, Sylvia Baker, Evelyn Gillis, Nancy Moore, Dora Riffle, all of Meadowbrook, and Lydia Burrough, Jane Lew; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Miss Reed was retired from the Fowler's Group Home Workshop and was active in many activities at the group home.

Friends will be received at 1 p.m. today, at Dorsey Funeral Home, Shinnston. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.

Hilda H. Roth

BATH, Pa. -- Hilda H. Roth, 84, of Moorestown, Pa., died Friday, June 26, 1998, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.

She was born Feb. 10, 1914, in Hanover Twp., Pa., a daughter of the late George E. Hess and Mary A. Huber Hess.

Her husband, Clayton R. Roth, preceded her in death on March 26, 1991.

Surviving are one daughter, Pearl M. Arnett and her husband Charles Arnett, Clarksburg; one son, Mark C. Roth, Canterbury, N.H.; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

She was also preceded in death by one infant daughter, two sisters and three brothers.

Mrs. Roth was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moorestown, Pa.

Friends will be received from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 696 Johnson Rd., Nazareth, Pa. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment will follow in Schoenersville Cemetery, Schoenersville, Pa.

Jean M. Woodruff

SALEM -- Jean McDonald Woodruff, 65, of West Union, Brush Run community, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at the residence of a daughter.

She was born March 19, 1993, in Detroit, Mich., a daughter of the late Gilbert and Bertha Bastin McDonald.

Surviving are five daughters, Roberta Martin and Melinda Marks, both of Salem, Rebecca Woodruff and Aretta Bonnell, both of West Union and Linda Mann, Jerusalem, Ohio; three sons, Robert Woodruff, Dexter, Mich., and Donald Woodruff and Ronald Woodruff, both of Inwood; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; one sister, Kay Fitney, Houston, Texas, and five brothers, Tom McDonald and Dwayne McDonald, Texas and Gilbert McDonald, Bob McDonald and Harry McDonald, all of Michigan.

She was also preceded in death by one son, John Woodruff, her twin brother, Jack McDonald, and one infant brother, Donald R. McDonald and two infant granddaughters.

Mrs. Woodruff was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Friends will be received from 2-9 p.m. Monday at Harbert Funeral Home, 289 West Main St., Salem. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Wolverton Cemetery.

Alfred T. Wright

Alfred Truman Wright, 84, of 110 Maple Ave., Stonewood, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born Nov. 7, 1913, at Duck Creek, Harrison County, a son of the late Charles E. Wright and Birdie B. Conrad Wright.

His wife, Viola Virginia Snyder Wright, preceded him in death on Dec. 28, 1995.

Surviving are one son, Roger Wayne Wright, Mount Clare; one daughter, Ellen Darlene Wright, Stonewood; one brother, Harvey H. Wright, Mount Clare, and two grandchildren, Joshua Wayne Wright and Roger Emille Wright.

He was also preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Wright was retired from Union Carbide where he worked as a brick mason for 15 years and he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Clarksburg.

Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard L. Perkins officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded.

Edward K. Fresa

Edward Karl Fresa, 70, of Duff Avenue, Clarksburg, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, in United Hospital Center following an extended illness.

He was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Donora, Pa., a son of the late Michael W. and Julia Yaeger Fresa.

Surviving are his wife, Diana K. Columbo, Clarksburg; six sons, Kevin Fresa, Merritt Island, Fla., Mark Fresa, Melbourne, Fla., Karl Fresa, Chicago, Ill., Dana Fresa, Cashiers, N.C., Michael Fresa, Rockledge, Fla., and Samuel Fresa, Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Gabriel Fresa and Kitt Fresa; one brother, Michael Fresa, Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Fresa was a retired businessman and attended Washington and Jefferson College. His career began in the trucking business prior to joining his father and brother in the construction and coal business and retiring from property development. He was a member of the West Virginia Surface Mine and Reclamation.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He served in the Philippines and in Trinidad, achieving the rank of chief petty officer. An avid sportsman, he traveled to Costa Rica, Florida and Canada with his sons on fishing expeditions. He enjoyed snow skiing and sailing.

Mr. Fresa later courageously battled various forms of cancer with dignity before falling victim to the disease.

Friends will be received from 2-9 p.m. today at All Saints Catholic Church, 317 E. Main St., Bridgeport. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church, with Father Harry Kramer as celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 8:30 p.m. today at All Saints Catholic Church, Bridgeport.

Beulah R. Grimes

GRAFTON -- Beulah Ruth Grimes, 93, of Howard Street, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at her residence following an extended illness.

She was born Feb. 22, 1905, in Grafton, a daughter of the late John W. and Nora Ellen Menear Snider.

Her husband, William Grimes, whom she married in 1935, preceded her in death in 1951.

Surviving are one sister, Helen S. Blackburn, Grafton; one stepgranddaughter, Mrs. Fred (Patricia) White, Fairmont; one stepgrandson, Charles B. Newcome, Charleston, S.C.; and four stepgreat-grandchildren, Jeffrey Kent White, Robby Newcome, Tonya Newcome and Lana Capp.

She was also preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Mrs. Charles (Lena) Newcome.

Mrs. Grimes attended Fairmont State College, where she earned her associate bachelor's degree. She was a school teacher with Blueville Elementary School, where she retired with 38 years of service.

She was a member of the Church of Good Shepherd in Grafton, the United Methodist Women and a charter member of the West Virginia Delta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher Sorority.

Mrs. Grimes was also a member of the Business and Professionals Women's Club of Grafton, the Grafton Hospital Auxiliary, the county, state and national Retired Teachers organizations and the Taylor County Senior Citizens.

Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Davis Funeral Home-Bartlett Chapel, 202 McGraw Ave. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joy Butcher-Winfree officiating. Interment will follow at Woodsdale Memorial Park. The West Virginia Delta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher Sorority serivce will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Maxine Rightmire

ELKINS -- Maxine Reed Rightmire, 84, a resident of 112 Wilton Ave., died Friday, June 26, 1998, at Somerset Quality Care, Somerset, Ohio.

She was born Oct. 5, 1913, in Parsons, a daughter of the late Robert V. and Creola Ford Reed.

On Aug. 12, 1935, in Culpepper, Va., she was married to Frank R. Rightmire, who preceded her in death on Feb. 9. 1996.

Surviving are one son, Charles R. Rightmire and his wife, Frances, Thornville, Ohio; one granddaughter, Mrs. Neal (April) Rightmire Sheffield, Gastonia, N.C.; two nieces, three nephews, and one great-granddaughter.

She was also preceded in death by one brother.

Mrs. Rightmire was a graduate of Parsons High School and received a standard normal degree from Davis & Elkins College. She taught school in Tucker County for three and a half years before moving to Washington, D.C., to work at the State Department.

Upon returning to Parsons, Mrs. Rightmire worked for the Weather Bureau Checking Station until 1947, when she opened Maxine's Dress Shop of Elkins, which she owned and operated for 35 years until its closing in 1982. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins.

Mary A. Turoczy

BRIDGEPORT -- Mary Ann Turoczy, 86, of 142 Davis St., died Saturday evening, June 27, 1998, at United Hospital Center.

She was born June 20, 1912, in Wendel, Taylor County, a daughter of the late Carl and Justine Vengrin.

Her husband, Nicholas Turoczy, preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 1980.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Nancy P.) Marks, Bridgeport; one son, William Turoczy, Livonia, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Wagner and Mrs. Ludemilla Spino, both of Kenosha, Wis.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Turoczy; one brother, John Vengrin; and one sister, Mrs. Anna Thomas.

Mrs. Turoczy was a very active member of the All Saints Catholic Church, where she was a member of the choir and the Catholic Daughters. She was also active with Meals on Wheels which she served for many years.

She was retired from the former W.T. Grant Department Store, Clarksburg, and later the store in Bridgeport, with 30 years service.

Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Allen Funeral Home, Bridgeport. The vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church with the Rev. Harry C. Cramer as celebrant. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.

Mamie L. VanHorn

WESTON -- Mamie Lea VanHorn, 67, of Route 2, French Creek, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 6, 1930, in Exchange, a daughter of Bertha M. Singleton, Exchange, and the late Arley Byrne Self.

Her husband, Charles B. VanHorn, whom she married Nov. 13, 1972, survives at French Creek.

Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Beverly Lipps, Weston, and Larry and Brenda Lipps, French Creek; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Jim (Cathy) Turner, Weston, and Mrs. Dwight (Linda) Riegel, Buckhannon; three stepsons, Ed VanHorn, Mt. Clare, Robert Eugene VanHorn, Weston, and Charles VanHorn Jr., Washington; one stepdaughter, Wanda Jane Smith, Weston; one brother, Junior Self, Flatwoods, and one sister, Sue Lloyd, Exchange; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Jean Lipps.

Mrs. VanHorn was Baptist and a retired cook with the Upshur County Board of Education with several years of service.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today at Boyle Funeral Home, Weston. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Heavner officiating. Interment will follow in the family cemetery at French Creek.
