Cameron clubs Notre Dame, 40-14

(September 12, 1998) CAMERON -- Big plays doomed Notre Dame High School, which fell behind 20-0 after the first quarter and lost 40-14 to Cameron Friday night.

Dragon quarterback Scott Berisford threw for 216 yards while completing 5 of 9 attempts. He hit Pat Wood with a 60-yard touchdown pass and found Joe Petrello on a 94-yard catch-and-run touchdown in the first quarter.

Cameron made it 20-0 when Kalib Lucey returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown, and the Dragons padded their lead with Petrello's 75-yard punt return.

Notre Dame rallied in the fourth quarter behind Sam Madia's two touchdown passes. Madia hit Brian Rokisky and Joey Aiello for scores.

Madia finished 6 of 8 passing for 80 yards and two TDs.

Cameron outgained Notre Dame 358-241.

¨ NORTH MARION 47, Lewis Co. 14: Visiting North Marion scored 40 points in the first half to cruise past homestanding Lewis County High School in a North Central Athletic Conference matchup.

Thomas Evans ran for 94 yards and three scores to pace the Huskies (2-1). Jason Hendershot followed with a pair of scores and 110 yards rushing including a 67-yard touchdown jaunt.

North Marion travels to Wheeling next Friday to take on Wheeling Park in a non-conference game while the Minutemen are off.

¨ MORGANTOWN 55, Fairmont Senior 20: Chris Yura rushed for 206 yards on 22 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead the Morgantown Mohigans over NCAC foe Fairmont Senior at Pony Lewis Field.

Yura, last year's Kennedy Award winner as the state player of the year, scored on runs of 3, 32, 8 and 1 yard, as the Mohigans ran their record to 3-0 on the season.

Mark Wigal added 87 yards for the hosts on just 10 carries.

Chad Merchant led the Polar Bears with 38 yards on 10 carries and scored a TD.

¨ VALLEY WETZEL 33, Hundred 0: John Loy rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns to lead the visiting Lumberjacks past the Hornets.

Coach Tom West's Valley team outrushed Hundred, 233-120, and didn't allow the Hornets (0-2) to complete a pass.

Joey Jeffries scored on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Josh Ingold, who also kicked three extra-points.

Dave McDiffit and Manuel Lemasters scored on touchdown runs for the Lumberjacks.

McDiffit finished with 77 rushing yards on 10 carries.

¨ BRAXTON COUNTY 41, Tygarts Valley 6: Justin Underwood ran for 127 yards and two touchdowns to lead visiting Braxton County to a victory over Tygarts Valley in a non-conference game.

The Eagles, now 2-0, picked off five passes and held the Bulldogs to 34 rushing yards. However, to offset the poor running attack, Tygarts Valley threw for 136 yards.

Braxton County squares off against Ritchie County next Friday.

¨ ELKINS 28, Nicholas 6: Nathan Fields threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Elkins to a win over Nicholas County. Elkins (2-1) was stellar on defense, holding Nicholas County to 150 total yards.

Fields was 10-of-22 for 104 yards. Both touchdown passes went to wideout Mike Simon, who finished with four catches for 38 yards. The Tigers host Buckhannon next Friday.
