Pioneers beat California, Pa.

(August 30) Wilkie Perez was 25 of 19 for 192 yards and a touchdown, plus rushed for 45 yards and another score, in leading slow-starting Glenville State to a 24-6 win on Saturday night at California, Pa.

California jumped to a 6-0 lead with a seven-play, 60-yard drive

early in the second quarter. Shawn McClelland's 17-yard run capped the drive, but the conversion kick failed.

California held that lead until Glenville launched an 11-play, 75 yard early in the third. Perez's 1-yard run and Justin Barnes' conversion kick made it 7-6 for the Pioneers.

Perez then added a 10-yard pass to Byron Stevenson late in the period for a 14-6 lead, and Barnes hit a 27-yard field goal early in the fourth. Anthony Norton's 14-yard run with 56 seconds left closed the scoring.

Glenville (1-0) got six receptions for 88 yards from Lance Linden, plus four catches for 51 yards from Hajji Ingraham.

The five-time West Virginia Conference champion Pioneers, looking for a stronger running game this season, got 83 yards rushing on 16 carries from Stevenson.

· LENOIR-RHYNE 16, Concord 6: Mike Ketchum threw for two touchdowns to lead Lenoir-Rhyne past Concord on Saturday.

Concord's Tyler Hull, a freshman, finished 6-for-10 passing for 92 yards.

Dave Decker's 42 paced Lincoln to a season-opening victory over Philip Barbour at the Barbour County Country Club Saturday.

Decker's round earned him high medalist, one stroke ahead of the Colts' Travis Poling and Josh Yeager.

Lincoln is home against South Harrison and Notre Dame in its next match at the Green Hills Country Club on Sept. 3 at 4 p.m.
