When Greater Clarksburg 10K race chairman Larry Mazza and his committee discussed having an event for children in conjunction with their internationally known event, they were hoping to draw 100 runners for the first year.
"It's always difficult to gauge in the first year," Mazza said. "But, we were very surprised and pleased when the Kids K grew so popular."
Between 250 and 300 children participated in the three children's races.
"The Kids K is definitely here to stay," Mazza said. "To see those kids out there, all wearing the number 1 and receiving medals at the end."
No times were kept in the Kids K events and no first, seconds or thirds were honored.
"There were no losers ... it was great to see so many smiles and so many young people get introduced to the sport of running," Mazza said.
