(September 10) Liberty's John See showed his versatility last Friday in the Mountaineers' 27-21 victory over Big 10 rival Grafton.

See, a senior wide receiver/defensive back, caught nine passes for 130 yards and one touchdown, intercepted a pass, blocked a punt and for good measure punted four times for a 37-yard average.

"John's a three-year letterman and a good athlete," Liberty coach Roger Gorby said. "He's got the ability and attitude to play on the next level."

For his efforts, See has earned the One Valley Bank/Clarksburg Exponent-Telegram Male Athlete of the Week honor.

He's joined this week by Robert C. Byrd volleyball player Cherra Richards, selected as the Female Athlete of the Week.

A senior hitter, Richards had six kills and three aces as the Eagles opened with an easy victory over East Fairmont.

"She provided us with great senior leadership," acting coach Chuck Critchfield said. "She did a great job keeping us together and is a strong server ... one of the few jump-servers you'll see on the high school level."

Other volleyball players nominated: R.C. Byrd's Heather Coleman had six kills and three aces in the win over East Fairmont.
