Alfred W. Cain

Alfred Wain Cain, 75, of 1718 Junkins Ave., Clarksburg, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 27, 1922, at Moss Run, Green Valley, a son of the late Harvey Cain and Nellie Bunnell Cain.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Mary) Talkington, Clarksburg and Ruth Lewis, Maryland; one sister, Mrs. Pauline Cole, East View, Clarksburg; four grandchildren, Kayla Talkington, Amy and Matthew Lewis and Christy O'Dell; one great-granddaughter, Michele O'Dell, and one aunt, Thelma Hawk.

He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Ryan Talkington; two sisters, Eatha Jean Posey and Lucille Vincent and two brothers, Lorenza and Ira Ralph Cain.

Mr. Cain was a Baptist and a member of Meuse Argonne Post 573, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had been employed as a construction worker. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served in the 813th Tank Destroyer Battalion in northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Olen Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery, Stouts Run, where the Honor Guard of VFW Post 573 will conduct military graveside rites.

Richard V. Carr

WESTON -- Richard V. "Rick" Carr, 62, of Route 4, Box 25, Weston, died at 11:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at his residence following a brief illness.

He was born April 13, 1936, in Spelter, a son of the late Hayes H. Carr and Ruby Metz Carr.

His wife, Alice Peterson, whom he married Jan. 13, 1957, survives.

Also surviving are one brother, Kenneth D. Carr, Palm Coast, Fla.; four sisters, Anna Lou Hutson, Parkersburg, Betty J. Trippette, Clarksburg, Waneta Clifton Jewell, Willow Beach, and Charlotte A. Fitzpatrick, Clarksburg, and several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Ronald H. Carr.

Mr. Carr had worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways for 11 years. He retired from Consolidated Natural Gas Company with 22 years of service.

He was a member of the Weston Masonic Lodge 10 A.F. & A.M., St. Johns Commandry No. 8 Knights Templar, Bieglow Chapter 4 Royal Arch Masons, Nemesis Shrine Temple of Parkersburg, Lewis County Shrine Club and Central West Virginia Shrine Club. He also made wood crafts and was Protestant.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Floyd Funeral Home, 402 Main Ave., Weston. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ronald C. Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Miller Cemetery, Horner.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewis County Home Health and Hospice, 240 Bank Street, Weston, or to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children and Burn Institute, in care of Weston Masonic Lodge 10 A.F. and A.M.

Bertie Lee Cox

HEATH, Ohio -- Bertie Lee Cox, 70, of Heath, Ohio, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at Licking Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

She was born Feb. 19, 1928, at Meadowbrook, a daughter of the late Emory and Marie Hodgekiss Pitzer.

Her husband, Robert L. Cox, preceded her in death on April 29, 1988.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce W. and Terrie Cox, Lexington, Mo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Thomas Sines, Indianhead Drive, Heath; two stepdaughters and one stepson, all of Missouri; two granddaughters, Angela Hankins, Huntington and Aimee Sines, Heath; three grandsons, Dwayne Cox, Columbus, Ohio, and Chad and A.J. Sines, both of Heath.; four stepgrandchildren; two great-granddaughters; two sisters, Lucille Ford, Heath and Mabel Ford, Hepzibah; and two brothers, Ralph Pitzer, Jane Lew and Russell Pitzer, Martinsburg.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Howard D. Pitzer; two sisters, Mary E. Harper and Wilma White, and one sister-in-law, Ruth Pitzer.

Mrs. Cox had worked for several years at the Roper Corporation and Rawlings Golf. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Robert L. Cox Memorial Chapter 23, Disabled American Veterans in Licking County, Ohio, Lions Club and the Womens Auxiliary of DAV, Fort Myers, Fla.

The funeral service was held Friday, Aug. 25 in Ohio.

Pauline G. Dickson

FLATWOODS -- Pauline Genevieve Dickson, 77, of St. Albans, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, following a brief illness.

Surviving are several cousins.

Ms. Dickson was a retired dispatcher from the West Virginia Department of Public Safety, a former dispatcher for the St. Albans Police Department and an honorary member of the West Virginia State Police Retirees Association. She was Lutheran.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. today at Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home, Flatwoods. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Robinson Family Cemetery, Corley, with the Rev. William E. Griffin officiating.

Francis M. Ford Sr.

FARMINGTON -- Francis Marion Ford Sr., 76, of 3436 Central Avenue, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at his residence.

He was born May 12, 1922, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Charles Feathers Ford and Pearl Costello Ford.

His wife of 53 years, Ellen S. Ford, survives.

Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ellen and Herman Hall, Mineral Wells and Elizabeth and Richard Courtney, Fairmont; four sons and daughters-in-law, Francis Marion Jr. and Joann Ford, Oberlin, Ohio, John Richard and Patricia Ford, Frederick Alan Ford, and Patrick Vernon and Darlene Ford, all of Farmington; two sisters, Elizabeth Moore, Boothsville and Alma R. Ford, Germany; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Watson F. Ford and Charles F. Ford Jr.

Mr. Ford was Protestant and a member of United Mine Workers of America, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mannington, a life member of the American Legion, Shinnston, a member of the Mountaineer Beagle Club and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid sportsman. He retired from the Johann Coal Mine in Rachel with 49 years service.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Dent Funeral Home, Farmington. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Charles Chipps officiating. Interment will follow in Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.

There will be a flag folding graveside service conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council.

Daphne Gillespie

Daphne M. Gillespie, 65, of Pearlman Ave., Clarksburg, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at Ruby Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born Nov. 24, 1932, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late George W. and Marie Catherine Jennings Smith.

Her husband, Dale Jackson "Jack¨ Gillespie, whom she married July 16, 1952, survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Athena M. Franklin, Macon, Ga., Mrs. Kenneth "Anita¨ Knight and Tessie L. Gillespie, both of Clarksburg; and four grandchildren, Kristen Linch, Adam Knight, Ryan Linch, and Justin Knight.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Tabitha Gillespie.

Mrs. Gillespie was a volunteer at Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center for four years, averaging 800 hours per year.

Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Davis Funeral Home, Clarksburg Chapel, 443 W. Pike Street. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. O.D. Harman officiating. Interment will be in West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown.

Everett Gough

Everett Gough, 71, of 115 South Linden Ave., Clarksburg, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Grafton, a son of the late Everett Gough and Elva Reed Gough.

His wife, Evelyn Fry Gough, whom he married Oct. 24, 1947, survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Charles Gough and wife Debby and Ray Gough, all of Clarksburg, and Dale Gough, Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters and husbands, Linda and Tom Armstrong, Sterling, Va., and Joyce and Steve Haggerty, Jane Lew; three brothers, Donald Gough, Texas, and Paul and Bobby Gough, both of Ohio; one sister, Lucille Reed, Ohio; six grandchildren, Scott Carson, Joshua and Ginnie Haggerty, Ian, Desaray and Vickie Gough; three stepgrandchildren, Kimberly DeLay, Earl Armstrong Jr., and Nicole Armstrong and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Neal Gough.

Mr. Gough was a member of East Clarksburg Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a retired driver and salesman for Meadow Gold Dairy and had formerly worked at Sanitary Baking Company.

Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce McBride officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery near Philippi.

Norma P. Rhodes

HAMPTON, Va. -- Norma P. Rhodes, 63, of Hampton and formerly of McWhorter, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, following an extended illness.

Her husband, Kenneth H. Rhodes, survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Kenneth H. Rhodes II, Jon David Rhodes, and Todd B. Rhodes; one brother, Sherman G. Prince; three sisters, Carolyn P. Hedley, Shirley P. Lewis, and Genevieve P. Grimmett, and three grandsons, Jeremy Rhodes, Daniel Rhodes, and Ryan Rhodes.

Mrs. Rhodes graduated from the St. Mary's School of Nursing, Clarksburg. She retired as a registered nurse after 39 years of service, the last 37 at the Kecoughtan Veterans Administration Hospital, Hampton.

She was active in the Women of the Moose and the Retired Nurses Association of the VA Hospital.

In lieu of flowers it is requested that memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Vecie M. Snyder

BUCKHANNON -- Vecie M. Snyder, 84, of Route 4, Kesling Mill community, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at her residence.

She was born March 21, 1914, in Cubana, Upshur County, a daughter of the late Charles Lower and Teresa Poling Lower.

Her husband, Dorsey R. "Jack¨ Snyder, whom she married Nov. 10, 1937, survives.

Also surviving are five children, Junior B. Harris and Merritt "Bud¨ Snyder, Mary Ruth Campbell and Donald Snyder, all of Buckhannon, and Arlene Lantz, Vienna; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchldren; four sisters, Dora Karickhoff, Thelma Lloyd and Dorothy Casto, all of Buckhannon, and Mary Snyder, Madison, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Daniel Snyder; one sister and two brothers.

Mrs. Snyder was a member of Buckhannon Union Mission Church.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel, Buckhannon. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Dennis Estes officiating. Interment will follow in Kesling Cemetery.

Patty Turkovich

SHINNSTON -- Patty Jean Turkovich, 69, of Route 2, Owings community, died at 8:55 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at the home of her sister in Buckhannon, following an extended illness.

She was born Nov. 6, 1928, at Kanawha Head, Upshur County, a daughter of the late Robert Stillman and Margaret Jane Knight Siron.

Her husband, Michael Martin Turkovich Sr., preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 1997.

Surviving are two sons, Michael Martin Turkovich Jr. and Mathew Todd Turkovich, both of Owings; one daughter, Mrs. Curtis (Nancy) Kendall, Shinnston; one sister, Mrs. Richard (Ruth) Strader Pritt, Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Holly Turkovich and six nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Claude Siron and Paul "Jack¨ Siron, and one nephew.

Mrs. Turkovich was formerly employed as a manager for G.C. Murphy Company in Shinnston for 15 years, and was the site supervisor for the Bi-County Nutritional Center in Shinnston for eight years. She was a member of Christ Church United Methodist, Shinnston.

Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Monday and after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dorsey Funeral Home, Shinnston. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Austin Burrough and the Rev. Terry Null officiating. Interment will follow in Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.

Robert E. Zinn

Robert Edward Zinn, 78, of Route 5, Box 737 A, Clarksburg, died at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in the Oakland Veterans Administration Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.

He was born Oct. 23, 1919, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Harry B. Zinn and Mary M. Eckleberry Zinn.

His wife, Beatrice E. "Bea" Burdiss Zinn, whom he married July 25, 1943, survives.

Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Larry E. and Barbara Zinn, Route 5, Clarksburg, and two grandchildren, Larry E. Zinn II and Stephanie E. Zinn.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Carl Zinn and one sister, Marguerite Frost.

Mr. Zinn was an active member of Stewart Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a lay leader and a member of the Worship Commission. He was also a member of the administration council and the Board of Trustees of the church.

He was a member of the Roy E. Parrish Post 13, American Legion and a member of the Military Order of Purple Heart, Chapter 418 and the Disabled American Veterans. He belonged to Sunny Croft Golf Club and a member of the Senior Retired Mens Bowling League and the Senior Jewels Bowling League.

Mr. Zinn was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served in the European Theater of War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired in 1985 from the U.S. Postal Service.
