William Clevenger

FAIRMONT -- William "Bill" Dale Clevenger, 66, of Sanford community, died on Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at his residence.

He was born May 22, 1932, in Rockford, Ill., a son of the late Granville and Daisy Clevenger.

His wife, Pauline Helm Clevenger, survives.

Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, LeRoy and Suzanne Clevenger, Greensburg, Pa.; one daughter and son-in-law, Cecilia and Greg Tinnell, Charlotte, N.C.; one stepson, Ron Sheranko, Cincinnati, Ohio; three grandchildren, Ashley Tinnell, Lauren Tinnell, and Michael Clevenger, and three stepgrandchildren, Julie Sawyer, Laura Sheranko and David Michael Sheranko.

He was also preceded in death by one stepson, David Allen Sheranko and a stepgranddaughter, Amanda L. Sheranko.

Mr. Clevenger had first worked for Standard Oil-Exxon, starting as a truck driver and worked into a position with management. He later owned and operated Clevenger Trucking. Prior to his retirement he had owned the Aquarium Lounge in Fairmont. He was a Roman Catholic. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U. S. Navy. He enjoyed gardening especially growing roses.

Friends will be received from 1-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Neagele officiating. At the request of the deceased, the body will be cremated and burial will be at a later date.

Frances L. Peaslee

KINGWOOD -- Frances Luella Peaslee, 65, of Kingwood, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 4, 1933, in Smokeless near Tunnelton, a daughter of the late Fred W. and Hester Marie Haskiell Casteel.

Her husband, Donald Hugh Peaslee, survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Mikel and Anita Peaslee, Kingwood, Rodney and Darlene Peaslee, Glen Burnie, Md., Jeffery Peaslee and Anita Cogar, of Albright; five daughters, Donna and Mike Contic, Kingwood, Doris and Joe Sheets, Kathy and Jim Allen, all of Newburg, Deanne and Randy Goodrich, and Robin Snyder, all of Kingwood; two brothers, Fred T. Casteel, Elizabethton, Tenn. and Donald E. Casteel, Millington, Mich.; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Arnold Casteel.

Mrs. Peaslee was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received from 2-9 p.m. today at Browning Funeral Home, Kingwood. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Elizabeth Villinger officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Kingwood.

Lucy W. Prosser

ELKINS -- Lucy Winters Hogan Prosser, 64, a resident of 4149 Treemont Lane, Suwanee, Ga., died at 8:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, in the Hospice Atlanta Center, where she had been a patient.

She was born Oct. 13, 1933, at Monterville, a daughter of the late William Wesley and Belva Channell Hogan.

Her husband, Charles F. Prosser Sr., whom she married Dec. 24, 1955, at Point Mountain Methodist Church at Monterville, survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Evelyn F. Prosser, Duluth, Ga.; two brothers, John W. Hogan, Hurricane and H. Edsel Hogan, Franklin; four sisters, Leah Kincaid, Minooka, Ill., Elsie Hite, Jacksonville, Ariz., Marie Harris, Clarksburg and Elaine Valentine, Elkins.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Joanne Prosser; one son, Charles F. "Butch" Prosser Jr., who died Aug. 16, 1998; three brothers, George E. Hogan, William S. Hogan, and Alvin P. Hogan, and one sister, Ireta Sloan.

Mrs. Prosser was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School in 1951, and was retired from the U.S. Government. She had also worked for General Dynamics, San Diego, Calif. and Jefferson Elementary School in Gahanna, Ohio.

Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home, Elkins. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Heavener Cemetery, Monterville.

Morrell Rapking Sr.

Morrell E. Rapking Sr., 83, of Good Hope, died at 10:20 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, in United Hospital Center.

He was born May 4, 1915, in Huntington, Ohio, a son of the late Rev. Aaron H. Rapking and Emma Poorman Rapking.

His wife Jean Post Rapking, whom he married July 10, 1938, survives.

Also surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Marjorie Rapking, Good Hope, Richard and Carol Rapking, Madisonville, Tenn, and the Rev. Gary and the Rev. Alicia Rapking, of Shinnston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Bill Douglass, Clarksburg and Nancy and Rick Murphy, Little Hocking, Ohio; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Aaron and Doll Rapking Jr., Florida, Glenn H. and Letha Rapking, Madisonville, Tenn.; one sister and brother-in-law, Ella Margaret and Paul Nay, Good Hope; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Rapking was a member of the New Bethel United Methodist Church, Good Hope, where he was a trustee and member of the official board. He had also served on the church building committee and the parsonage building committee.

He was a 50 year member of the Farm Bureau and was a past president of the Harrison County Farm Bureau and had served on several county agricultural committees. He was a former president of the West Virginia Artificial Breeders Co-op Association.

Mr. Rapking was a County 4-H Alumna Award winner and he was named Harrison County Farmer of the Year in the Farming for Better Living program. He was a dairy farmer and had served as a director of Producers Dairy Golden Guernsey in Clarksburg.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the New Bethel United Methodist Church, Good Hope, with the Rev. Maurice A. Miller, the Rev. Robert C. Cole, and the Rev. Gilbert L. Hart officiating. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Good Hope Masonic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers it is requested that memorial contributions be made to the New Bethel Church Memorial Fund.

 

James C. Swinler

BRIDGEPORT -- James C. "Hop" Swinler, 87, of 712 James St., formerly of Grand Avenue, died Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 16, 1998, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.

He was born Oct. 30, 1910, in Phoenix, Ariz., a son of the late George Clayton Swinler and Ethel Alice Boyles Swinler.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Anna Mary Wells Swinler.

Surviving are two sons, James C. Swinler Jr. and his wife Janet, Morgantown, and George Stephen Swinler and his wife Diane, Williamstown; nine grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren and nine stepgreat-grandchildren, and one cousin, Ruth Reger Muntzing, Clarksburg.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been also preceded in death by one brother, Alan Eugene Swinler, and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Hamrick.

Mr. Swinler was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksburg. He was retired from the Carbon Products Division, Union Carbide, Anmoore Plant, where he last served as head of the store's department. He was a member of Mt. Anthony Lodge 13, A.F.&A.M. in Bennington, Vt. He was a graduate of Victory High School and had attended West Virginia University.

Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 Tuesday, at the Allen Funeral Home in Bridgeport. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Eric M. Faust officiating. Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery.
