R.C. Byrd defeats Lewis, 4-2

From Staff Reports

WESTON -- Nicole Richards and Yamuna Navada continued the offensive surge from the Robert C. Byrd girls soccer team Thursday night, leading the Eagles to a 4-2 victory at Lewis County.

Richards recorded a hat trick and added an assist, while Navada scored a goal and assisted two of the Richards scores.

RCB (2-4-3) scored single goals in each of the first two quarters, carrying a 2-0 lead into halftime. Navada scored the game's initial goal, drilling home a Richards cross at the 5:50 mark of the first quarter.

Richards scored the second winner on a solo run with only 2: 18 left in the half.

Lewis County (1-4) responded with a third quarter goal from Brittany Heath at the 7:51 mark. Heath received a well-placed long ball from Jaime Parker and dribbled into the clear before placing it in the net.

Richards scored off a Navada pass to extend the margin to 3-1 in the fourth quarter, but less than a minute later, Parker answered in spectacular fashion, bending in a corner kick into the net to cut the margin to 3-2. It was the third unassisted score off a corner by Parker this season.

Richards found the net off a Navada cross in the final minute to give RCB its final cushion.
