Indians win sectional title

WESTON -- The Bridgeport girls soccer team used two second-half goals to claim the Region I, Section 4 title with a 2-1 victory over Lewis County on Thursday.

With the win, the Indians (8-6-5) face the winner of Parkersburg-Parkersburg South in the regional semifinal on Tuesday at Lewis County High School. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Britney Heath scored in the first quarter to give Lewis a 1-0 lead, which held until the third quarter.

Amanda Fischer tied the game for Bridgeport in the third period on a penalty kick.

Lindsey Waugh's goal on an assist from Fischer proved to be the game-winner, with 3:22 left in the game.

Prep volleyball

n R.C. BYRD DEFEATS GRAFTON: Robert C. Byrd improved to 10-13 overall and 6-4 in the Big 10 Conference with a 25-21, 25-10, 25-20 victory over Grafton at Clair Bee Fieldhouse.

Raina Lafferty had 21 points and five aces to lead the Eagles in scoring. Jenna Wolfe and Natalie Lamm had nine and five kills, respectively, while Brittany Bond led the team with 29 assists.

Jamie Cooper scored 17 points, including three aces, for the Bearcats.

College volleyball

n SIU SWEEPS OHIO VALLEY: Salem International's volleyball team improved to 4-0, defeating Ohio Valley College, 30-28, 30-21, 30-24.
