PENNSBORO -- Jon Michael Broadwater, 36, of West Union, WV, departed this life on Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Pennsboro, WV.
Jon was born on February 2, 1968, at Parkersburg, WV. He had been employed as a cook at the Fairview Diner in Smithburg, WV, and had attended the First Assembly of God Church at West Union, WV.
He is survived by his parents, Michael J. and Patricia A. Marks Broadwater, Parkersburg, WV; wife, Cindy M. Winans Broadwater, West Union, WV; paternal grandmother, Patricia Broadwater, Parkersburg, WV; maternal grandmother, Geraldine Weber, Marietta, OH; daughter, Hanah Broadwater, Parkersburg, WV, and stepchildren, C.J. Jacobs, II, and Danielle Jacobs, both of West Union, WV; brothers, Charles Broadwater, Fairmont, WV, and Zachary Broadwater, Vienna, WV; and a sister, Sarah Broadwater, Parkersburg, WV.

John F. Casseday
ELKINS -- John F. Casseday, 78, of Lancaster, OH, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Crestview Manor Nursing Home No. 2.
He was born on February 18, 1926, in Burnsville, WV, to the late John F. and Beatrice Hefner Casseday.
John was a retired plant manager for Anchor Hocking Glass Corp. with 18 years of service. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He loved to play golf and playing the piano. He enjoyed comedy and humor.
He is survived by his daughter, Judith Casseday of Durham, NC; 4 sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Joyce Casseday of Arcadia, CA, Matt and Ana Casseday of Quepos, Costa Rica, Scott Casseday of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Paul and Helen Casseday of Phoenix, AZ; 5 grandchildren, Shawn, Catlyn, Alejandra, Ryan, and Emily Casseday; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Eugene Wood of Gunnison, CO; special friend, Charlotte Sheets of Baltimore; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann Barnes Casseday and his parents.

Bette Hyde Curtis
CLARKSBURG -- Mrs. Bette Hyde Curtis, age 82, of 205 Park Blvd., Clarksburg, WV, died at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at the United Hospital Center following a brief illness. She was born in Clarksburg, WV, November 9, 1921, a daughter of the late Cecil Will Hyde and Miriam Carskadon Hyde.
Surviving are a son, David E. Curtis, Denver, CO, a daughter and a son-in-law, Kay and James Utter, Lake Floyd, Bristol, WV and a grandson, David I. Utter, Lake Floyd, Bristol, WV.
Mrs. Curtis was also preceded in death by a brother, C.W. Hyde, Jr.
Mrs. Curtis was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clarksburg and had been an active volunteer at the church. She had been employed by the Harrison County Board of Education as a Science and Home Economics teacher. She retired in 1983 from Central Junior High School in Clarksburg after 25 years of service.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church in Clarksburg, with the Rev. Dr. Gary N. Shepard and the Reverend Etheldean Yanero presiding. Hona Josephine Gray
PENNSBORO -- Hona Josephine Gray, 67, of Morgans Run Community of West Union, departed this life on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at her residence surrounded by friends and family.
Hona was born on July 29, 1936, the daughter of the late William Jennings Pratt and Zula Gertrude Hurst Pratt. She was previously employed as a general laborer at Minners Glass in Salem and performed housekeeping in homes throughout West Union, and was a long standing member of the Victory Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Gray; 5 daughters; 3 sons; 1 step daughter; 2 brothers; 2 sisters; 16 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held for Hona at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, WV, Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Robert Metz officiating. Burial will follow in the Wolverton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-9 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, at the funeral home and after 9 a.m. Saturday until time of service.

Clifford G. Kelley
PHILIPPI -- Clifford G. Kelley, 84, of Nestorville Community, Rt. 2, Philippi, died Tuesday afternoon, June 1, in the Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins, following a two-month illness.
He was born December 2, 1919, at Nestorville, a son of the late Homer B. and Gale (Haller) Kelley.
On October 19, 1941, he married the former Joy Nestor, who survives at Nestorville.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Sue and David Hedrick, Grafton; one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Dianna Kelley, Volga; eight grandchildren, Angela Hammat, Marietta, GA, Michael Shawn Criss, Byron, GA, Kevin Moore, St. Leonard, MD, Tonya Hedrick, Cross Lanes, W.Va., Brad Criss, N. Beach, MD, Missy Baker, Myersville, MD, Thad Kelley, Philippi, and Jered Kelley, Kansas City, KS; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Goldie Hardin, Kasson Community, and Lucille Cross, Philippi.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Marsh, and by two brothers, his twin brother, Carl Kelley, and Dorsey Kelley.
Mr. Kelley was a veteran of World War II, serving in North Africa and Europe with the U.S. Army. He was a former employee of the Carr China Co. at Grafton, Craig Motor Service in Grafton and was best known for a career of delivering milk and dairy products to area homes, schools and grocers.
He was a member of Nestorville United Methodist Church. He was a member of Bigelow Lodge No. 52, A.F.& A.M.; a member and past high priest of Tygarts Valley Chapter, No. 39, R.A.M.; a member of Demolay Commandery No. 11, K.T. at Grafton and Pilgrim Commandery No. 21, K.T., at Elkins. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, with memberships in the Clarksburg and Wheeling bodies and was a former member of Osiris Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Wheeling. He was a member of the Nestorville Senior Citizens, where he served as representative to the county council of Barbour County Senior Citizens and was a member of Laurel Mt. Post No. 410, V.F.W. at Belington.
Friends may call at the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from 2 until 9 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday, June 4, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dot Smith-Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in the Nestorville Cemetery with Bigelow Lodge conferring Masonic Graveside Rites.

Mary Loretta Mays
JANE LEW -- Mary Loretta Mays, 89, of Jane Lew, passed away Wednesday morning, June 2, 2004, at Crestview Manor, where she had been a resident since October 3, 1996.
She was born April 4, 1915, at Indian Camp, Upshur County, a daughter of the late Rev. Benjamin H. Thomason and Dortha Dale Simmons Thomason Brake.
On Nov. 6, 1939, in Fredericksburg, Va., she married Guy Junior Mays of Clarksburg and Lewis County, who preceded her in death on June 30, 1996. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy (Dotty) and Gilbert Butcher, Jr. of Stonewood and one grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Gil "Chip" and Sarah Butcher of Jane Lew.
She is also survived by one brother-in-law, A.V. 'Vic' Mays, Winfield, WV, and two sisters-in-law, Media Thomason, Fredericksburg, VA, and Virgie Gordon, Akron, Ohio, along with two uncles, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janabeth, an infant twin son, Donald James, her brother, B.H. Thomason, and her stepfather, P.D. "Pete" Brake.
Mr. and Mrs. Mays moved to Jane Lew following their wedding in 1939 and remained residents there the rest of their lives. Mrs. Mays worked alongside her husband in the operation of a restaurant in Jane Lew in the early '40s and when he became co-owner and operator of Mays' Brothers Garage in Jane Lew from 1949 until 1969 and also operated Mays' Brothers Trucking, which was later incorporated as Jane Lew Trucking.
Mrs. Mays was a member of the Buckhannon E.U.B. Church and attended Stealey Assembly of God in Clarksburg. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Jane Lew, AARP, along with the CBN/700 Club and the Christian Coalition. She graduated from Buckhannon High School in 1934.
Friends will be received at Morris Funeral Home, Main Street, Jane Lew, on Friday, June 4, 2004, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday, June 5, 2004, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon, June 6, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Green officiating. Robert Gordon Moore
CLARKSBURG -- Robert Gordon Moore, age 64, of 123 Thompson Street, Clarksburg, WV, died at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at the United Hospital Center following an extended illness.
He was born in Worthington, Marion Co., WV, November 19, 1939, a son of the late Charles Fredrick Moore and Audrey Marguerette Iser Moore.
His wife, Ella Louise Staubs Moore, whom he married July 1, 1958, preceded him in death November 29, 1997.
Survivors are two sons, Robert G. Moore II, Cheyenne, WY, and Charles Fredrick Moore Il, Florence, AZ; four daughters and spouses, Mrs. Charlotte Ann and Michael Huffman, Clarksburg, WV, Carol Lynn and Stewart "Butch" White, Clarksburg, WV, Debra Ann Mikula, Riverside, CA, and Sharon Louise Medina, Cheyenne, WY; one sister, Mrs. Audrey Thelma Warner, Buckhannon, WV; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Moore had served in the Army National Guard in Washington State, Colorado, and Wyoming, the U.S. Army Reserve, the U.S. Navy and U.S. Navy Reserve during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam era. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Cheyenne, WY. He was Methodist by faith. He worked in oil drilling and was an oil rig mechanic.
There will be no visitation. A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon, WV, with the Rev. Chris Talton presiding.

FLATWOODS -- Lynn Ann Rexroad went to be with God's Angels on June 2, 2004. Lynn is the daughter of Linda (Charlie) Cain of Parkersburg, WV, and Michael (Marsha) Rexroad of Sutton, WV.

SHINNSTON -- Pauline Skidmore, 68, of Lumberport, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2004.
She was born December 30, 1935, in Flemington, a daughter of the late Isaac Homer and Fanny (Ice) Barker.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Skidmore.
She is survived by four sons, Danny Skidmore and wife Diane of Wyatt, Anthony Skidmore and wife Barbara of Robey Hollow, Robert Skidmore and wife Jeanette of Wyatt and Norman Swiger and wife Diane of Meadowbrook; five daughters, Peggy Landis of Erie, Linda Wilson and husband John of Haywood, Delphia Hammond and husband Danny of Bridgeport, Rebecca Bunnell and husband Donley of Margaret, Corbie McElroy and husband Paul of Haywood; one stepdaughter, Betty Jean Skidmore of Charleston; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Barker and wife Deloris of Joe Town and Bob Barker and wife Mildred of East Liverpool, Ohio; two sisters, Bessie Claypool of East View and Virginia Treesize of Haywood; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Skidmore was preceded in death by one son, Dorsey Skidmore; two grandsons, Michael Bunnell and Raymond Woodrow Skidmore; three brothers, Edward, Ishmauel and Peter Barker; and one sister, Velda Barker.
Mrs. Skidmore was a member of the House of Faith.

Thomas C. Staats
CLARKSBURG -- Thomas C. Staats, age 71, of Country Club, Clarksburg, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, in the United Hospital Center.
He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on September 13, 1932, a son of the late Delmer Staats and Doris (Wood) Staats.
His wife, Paula A. (Jackson) Staats, survives.
Also surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and David Hurst, Clarksburg, WV, Paula Sue Staats, Clarksburg, WV, Michelle and Scott Miles, Clarksburg, WV, and Christy and Wesley (Wilbur) Walls, Clarksburg, WV; one son, Jayson Lee Staats, Morgantown, WV; one brother, Donald M. Staats, Newport News, VA; two grandchildren, Jessica Nikole Miles, Clarksburg, WV, and Thomas Robert (T.R.) Miles, Clarksburg, WV, a sister-in-law, Betty Staats, Shrewsbury, PA; a nephew, Ric Staats, Shrewsbury, PA; a niece, Cyndi Staats, Shrewsbury, PA; several aunts; and his favorite dog, Storm.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard W. Staats.
He was Baptist by faith and a former deacon of the Summit Park Baptist Church.
Mr. Staats was a member of the Clarksburg Country Club & Sunny Croft and was a former volunteer fireman with the Summit Park Volunteer Fire Department.
He thoroughly enjoyed his "old farts" breakfast every two weeks at the Cottage Corner II in Salem and he loved to go to the Pittsburgh Pirate games with his son, Jayson.
Mr. Staats graduated from Glenville State College in 1957 and worked for CNG Gas Co. for 37 years before retiring.
He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict from Aug. 8, 1950-Sept. 7, 1953.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main Street, Clarksburg, WV, from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, with Pastor Lynn McClain presiding.
There will be a private family Interment.
