Katherine Ann Sutton Ash

SALEM -- Katherine Ann Sutton Ash, 63, of Rt. 6, Clarksburg, departed this life Saturday, May 29, 2004.

She was born at Miletus, WV, a daughter of the late George and Pauline Nicholson Sutton.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Reverend Stanley Ash, whom she married May 31, 1958.

In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Ash) Fisher and husband Carey, Clarksburg, Suzanna (Ash) Patterson and husband Richard, Sistersville, WV; four sons, Jody Ash and wife Kayla, Salem, Joshua Wayne Ash and wife Mikasa, Clarksburg, Stanley Wayne "Charlie" Ash II and wife Hayley, Palm Beach, FL, Noah Ash, St. Mary's, WV; grandchildren, Matthew Allen Fisher, Clarksburg, Eli Ray and Raymond Lee Patterson, Sistersville, Kristen Ash, West Union, Adreyan Nathaniel, Dakoda Katherine, Morgan Zada Ash, Palm Beach, FL; great-grandchildren, Jayda Mckole and Jaycent Xavier Ash, Clarksburg; three brothers, Allen Sutton and wife Wanda, Salem, Robert Sutton and wife Linda, Jacksonville, FL, Gary Sutton and wife Katrina, Salem; and one sister, Linda (Sue) Meredith and companion Jeff, Tamarac, FL.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Winfred Siders, and two brothers, Dale and George (Butch) Sutton.

Mrs. Ash had worked for Alkire Tire in Clarksburg as a secretary and had been employed by Beckley Register newspaper. She had been affiliated with several Baptist churches. Mrs. Ash enjoyed doing craft works and making quilts and her ambition in life was to be a good mother and wife.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 5, 2004, in the Harbert Funeral Home, 287 W. Main St., Salem, at 6 p.m. with the Reverend John Glessner and Reverend Bob Marino officiating. Friends may call in the funeral home chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, and Saturday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. It was the request of Mrs. Ash to be cremated after her funeral services. Private committal services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Center Point Christian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke associations.

Dick Ellsworth Bramer

BRIDGEPORT -- Dick Ellsworth Bramer, age 70 of Clarksburg (Sardis Community), passed away at 9 a.m. Thursday June 3, 2004, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following an extended illness.

He was born January 14, 1934, in Sardis, WV, a son of the late Henry Jones and Lexie Swiger Bramer.

He is survived by his wife, Nada Montgomery Bramer; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Bramer and his wife Charmaine, Mike Bramer and his wife Tammy and Monty Bramer and his wife Nina, all of Clarksburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Mike Eakle of Clarksburg; fourteen grandchildren, three great-grandsons; one brother, Don Bramer of Youngstown, Ohio; and two sisters, Bessie Smith of Bridgeport and Audrey Strother of Clarksburg.

In addition to his parents, two brothers, John and Jack Bramer, and one sister Agnes Strother preceded him in death.

A self-employed coal operator, he attended the Sardis Baptist Church. Dick loved being in the outdoors and enjoyed farming and gardening. He will always be remembered as a man who was kind, thoughtful and considerate of the people around him. He was known for being a very generous person to anyone who was in need.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no funeral home visitation or services. Mr. Bramer's wishes were to be cremated, and his ashes will be scattered by his family at their convenience.

The family of Dick Ellsworth Bramer is being assisted with his arrangements by Burnside Funeral Home 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport.

Wanda Lea Burrows

CLARKSBURG -- Wanda Lea Burrows, age 80, of Anmoore, WV, died at 10:50 a.m., Thursday, June 3, 2004, in the Demyons Golden Circle in Stonewood, WV, following an extended illness.

She was born in Clarksburg on September 4, 1923, a daughter of the late Robert Steven Poe and Mable Laura (Setzer) Poe and (Laurita) Margaret (Stevenson) Poe.

Her husband, Charles Russell Burrows, whom she married on August 31, 1944, preceded her in death on October 20, 2003.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Ray and Susan Burrows, Bridgeport, WV, and Barry Russell Burrows, Lost Creek, WV; one daughter, Chyrl Lea Burrows, Clarksburg, WV; one brother, Dennis S. Poe, Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Betty Hetterman, Bridgeport, WV, and Sue Stout, Bridgeport, WV; one grandson, Barry Russell Burrows Jr., Clarksburg, WV; and three great- grandchildren, Carolyn Dianne Burrows and Charles Thomas Burrows and Isaiah Russell Burrows.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert J. Poe Jr.

Mrs. Burrows was a member of the Quiet Dell United Methodist Church.

She graduated from Roosevelt-Wilson High School on May 28, 1941.

She was employed by Eagle Convex in Clarksburg and worked as Annie the Riveter during World War II in Ohio.

Mrs. Burrows was an avid homemaker and loved her family. She worked for over 50 years with the Retarded Children Association which is currently known as the Sheltered Workshop of Harrison County. She worked many hours with the Special Olympics throughout West Virginia.

Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, WV, from 6-8 p.m. Sunday where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2004, with the Reverend Kermit Auvil presiding. Interment will be in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Lenora Ann Faulkner Harris

CHARLESTON -- Lenora Ann Faulkner Harris, 57, of Charleston, passed away Friday, June 4, 2004, at her residence following a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Bumgardner Jones.

Lenora was a graduate of Sissonville High School, attended WVU, received her B.A. in Education from Morris Harvey, and received her Masters in Communication from Xavier College. She taught Art and Spanish in Cincinnati and most recently in Kanawha County. She also was a Freelance Interior Designer.

In addition to her father, Opa M. Jones, she is survived by her husband, Mark E. Harris, daughter, Anna L. Faulkner of Charleston, brothers, Glen C. and wife Martha Jones, of Kingsport, TN, Burl A. and wife Eunice Jones, of Charleston; and four nephews.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Alders Gate Methodist Church, Sissonville, with Rev. Bob Hill officiating. Entombment will follow in Floral Hills Garden, Sissonville.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Bonnie Marie Keith

WESTON -- Bonnie Marie Keith, 88, of 839 Kunst Drive, Weston, WV, died at 10:04 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2004, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV, following an extended illness. Born on July 15, 1915, in Lewis County, WV, she was a daughter of the late W.C. Mick and Dona (Bonnett) Mick.

On March 10, 1933, she married Ira Brooks Keith, who preceded her in death on March 20, 1992.

Survivors include four children, Frances Blankenship, Buckhannon, WV, D. Gary (wife Jean) Keith, New Martinsville, WV, Dolores (husband Charles) Villers, Weston, WV, and Carolyn (husband Ray) Hileman, West Union, WV; five grandchildren, Rick Wright, Buckhannon, WV, Greg (wife Jeanette) Keith, Indianapolis, IN, Linda (husband Charles) Hayhurst, West Milford, WV, Lynette (husband Kelvin) Johnson, Charlotte, NC, and Michael (wife Ronna) Keith, Groton, CT; six great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Oleta Turner, Pricetown, WV; one sister-in-law, Irene Mick, Weston, WV; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Keith was a homemaker and enjoyed playing cards and board games.

Mary Loretta Mays

JANE LEW -- Mary Loretta Mays, 89, of Jane Lew passed away Wednesday morning, June 2, 2004, at Crestview Manor, where she had been a resident since October 3, 1996.

She was born April 4, 1915, at Indian Camp, Upshur County, a daughter of the late Rev. Benjamin H. Thomason and Dortha Dale Simmons Thomason Brake.

On Nov. 6, 1939, in Fredericksburg, Va., she married Guy Junior Mays of Clarksburg and Lewis County, who preceded her in death on June 30, 1996.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy (Dotty) and Gilbert Butcher Jr. of Stonewood, and one grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Gil "Chip" and Sarah Butcher of Jane Lew.

She is also survived by one brother-in-law, A.V. "Vic" Mays, Winfield, WV, and two sisters-in-law, Media Thomason, Fredericksburg, VA, and Virgie Gordon, Akron, Ohio, along with two uncles and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janabeth; an infant twin son, Donald James; her brother, B.H. Thomason; and her stepfather, P.D. "Pete" Brake.

Mr. and Mrs. Mays moved to Jane Lew following their wedding in 1939 and remained residents there the rest of their lives. Mrs. Mays worked alongside her husband in the operation of a restaurant in Jane Lew in the early '40s and when he became co-owner and operator of Mays' Brothers Garage in Jane Lew from 1949 until 1969 and also operated Mays' Brothers Trucking, which was later incorporated as Jane Lew Trucking.

Mrs. Mays was a member of the Buckhannon E.U.B. Church and attended Stealey Assembly of God in Clarksburg. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Jane Lew, AARP, along with the CBN/700 Club and the Christian Coalition. She graduated from Buckhannon High School in 1934.

Friends will be received at Morris Funeral Home, Main Street, Jane Lew, on Friday, June 4, 2004, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday, June 5, 2004, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon, June 6, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Green officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview I.O.O.F. Cemetery on the Hacker's Creek Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fairview I.O.O.F. (Friendship) Cemetery in care of Bernard Morrison, 957 Jackson's Mill Road, Jane Lew, WV, 26378.

Howard B. Stout

PHILIPPI -- Howard B. Stout, age 88, a resident of Rt. 4, Mt. Liberty Community, passed away Thursday June 3, 2004, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.

He was born January 8, 1916, at Brushy Fork in Barbour County, a son of the late Lloyd L. and Ola M. (Radcliff) Stout.

He was united in marriage June 28, 1942, to the former Dorotha Garrett, who preceded him in death November 18, 1980.

Surviving are 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-laws, Howard B. "Ben" and wife Dana Stout II of Fairmont, WV, Lloyd Warren Stout of Philippi, Woodrow Alan and wife Connie Stout of Street, MD; 1 brother, Harry J. and wife Eva Stout of Brushy Fork Community; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He retired from the Masketter Company as a sander and also was a farmer. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army and a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 9 a.m. on Sunday until 11 a.m. on Monday, the service hour, with the Rev. Duane Bartrug officiating. Interment will follow in the Barbour Memorial Cemetery with the American Legion Post 44 conducting full military rites.

Ruth E. Bateman Stout

WESTON -- Ruth E. Bateman Stout, 90, a resident of Sherry Sellers Personal Care Home in Jane Lew, WV, died at 2:35 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2004, in the Personal Care Home following a short illness.

Born on October 10, 1913, in Lewis County, WV, she was a daughter of the late Bernard Bateman and Veronica (Mertz) Bateman.

On March 27, 1932, she married C. Paul Stout, who preceded her in death on February 27, 1995.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Earl (wife Betty Jo) Stout, Hedgesville, WV; two daughters, Cindy (Stout) Davis and Bill Rowan, Weston, WV, and Ernestine Stout (husband Al) Kepley, Kent Island, MD; seven grandchildren, Heather Ellis McVay, Weston, WV, Matthew Ellis, Weston, WV, Kenneth Stout, Donna Farthing, Paula Smith, Michael Stout and Jonathan Clayton, all of Maryland; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Rita Bateman Cumberland of Maryland; two brothers, Lawrence "Larry" Bateman of Michigan, and Francis Bateman of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Pauline Stout Mick; one grandson, David Stout; two sisters, Isabelle Bateman Stout and Ethel Bateman Keister; five brothers, Bernard "Pete" Bateman, Paul Bateman, Vincent Bateman, Harold Bateman and Thomas "Tommy" Bateman; and one great-great-grandchild, Baby McVay.

Mrs. Stout retired as Director of the Lewis County Senior Citizens Center with several years service. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Weston. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Federated Garden Club, Business and Professional Women's Club, Theresa Snaith Auxiliary of the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, and was the first woman named Lewis Countian of the Year in 1980.

Friends may call at the Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Avenue, Weston, WV, on Sunday, June 6, 2004, from 5-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 7, 2004, from St. Patrick Catholic Church in Weston with Reverend Fr. Jeremiah F. McSweeney as Celebrant and Reverend Rick Farmer assisting. Interment will follow in the Weston Masonic Cemetery. A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2004, from the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel.
