CLARKSBURG -- Mrs. Mary Stenger Bastin, 94, of Kurtz Street, Athens, Ohio, formerly of Clarksburg, died at about 7 a.m. Sunday, March 26, 2000, at the Hickory Creek Nursing Facility in Athens.
She was born Aug. 13, 1905, in Gas City, Indiana, a daughter of the late Adolph and Mina Scheirman Stenger.
Her husband, Abel F. Bastin, preceded her in death March 10, 1953.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Dorothy Bastin, Athens; three grandsons, Todd, Brian and Dustin Bastin, all of Athens; and one granddaughter, Darcy Bastin, Athens.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Adolph, Louis, Fred and Ernest Bastin, and one sister, Mrs. Naomi Samuels.
The glass industry brought Mrs. Bastin's family to the Clarksburg area, where she spent most of her life. She was a homemaker and had worked for a number of years for the former Wells and Haymaker Drug Store. She had been a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main Street, Clarksburg, from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Father Cesidio J. Federico as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
FAIRMONT -- Mrs. Mary Margaret Christian, 84, of Fairmont, died at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, March 26, 2000, in the Wishing Well Manor.
She was born Feb. 7, 1916, in Meadowbrook, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Spino Abruzzino.
Her husband, Tony "Lefty" Christian, preceded her in death in 1979.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, John and Karen Christian, Fairmont; four brothers, John, Danny and Michael Abruzzino, all of Fairmont, and Frank Abruzzino, Newbury, Ohio; four sisters, Mrs. Katherine Poster and Mrs. Rose Julian, both of Fairmont, Mrs. Virginia Zuspan and Patricia A. Abruzzino, both of Grafton; three grandchildren, Mrs. John (Natalie) Brotosky and Mrs. Thomas (Kellie) Cook, both of Fairmont, and Miss Leisa Christian, Concord, N.C.; and 17 nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Christian was a member of Saint Anthony's Catholic Church, Watson, the Saint Elizabeth Guild, the Monongahela Power Company Girls Club and the Monongahela Power Retirees Association. She was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 629, Fairmont.
She was a former employee of the Palace Restaurant and former manager of the snack bar for the Monongahela Power Company.
The family will receive friends at the Ross Funeral Home, 801 Fairmont Avenue, Fairmont, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Saint Anthony Catholic Church, Watson, with the Rev. Gary P. Naegele as Celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Fairmont.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Anthony Catholic Church or the Salvation Army in Fairmont.
Gordon Ewing Forinash Sr.
NUTTER FORT -- Mr. Gordon Ewing Forinash Sr., 87, of Stonewood, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Heartland Nursing Home of Clarksburg, following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 24, 1912, in Fayette County, a son of the late Joel Forinash and Siddie Forinash.
His wife, Oma White Forinash, whom he married May 2, 1936, preceded him in death June 23, 1997.
Surviving are six sons, Gordon E. Forinash Jr., Colin L. and Jerry B. Forinash, all of Clarksburg, Rodney B. Forinash, Bradenton, Fla., and Mark L. Forinash, Jacksonville, Fla., and Gary O. Forinash, Stonewood; five daughters, Mrs. Vance (Dorothy) Westfall and Mrs. Roger (Caroleen) Roe, both of Stonewood, Mrs. Harry (Lois) Bailey, Bridgeport, Mrs. William (Diane) Bernard, Clarksburg, and Mrs. Danny (Lisa) Jenks, Nutter Fort; two brothers, Richard M. Forinash, Ellijay, Ga., and Edward J. Forinash, Clarksburg; one sister, Edna Reed, Jacksonville, Fla.; and two stepbrothers, Donald Forinash, Wichita, Kan. and Roger Forinash, Cabot, Ark.; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert L. Forinash and two sisters, Edith Strock and Gorthy Adams.
Mr. Forinash was a Methodist. He retired as foreman of the machine shop after 41 years of service for the P.P.G. Industries.
Friends may call at the Greathouse-Gemondo Funeral Home, Nutter Fort, from 7-9 p.m. today and from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. D.D. Meighen presiding. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
JANE LEW -- Ella May Freeman, 98, of Route 2, Jane Lew, died at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2000.
She was born Aug. 26, 1901, at Broad Run, a daughter of the late Fred and Alice Funk Smith.
Her husband, Nimrod T. Freeman, whom she married in 1922, preceded her in death in 1949.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Herbert F. and wife, Mary Lu Freeman, Martinsburg, and Robert B. and wife, Susan B. Freeman, Clarksburg; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Hattie Ward and four brothers, Harvey, Herbert, William and Harold Smith.
Mrs. Freeman was a charter member of the Lightburn Homemakers Club, having joined in 1928, and the American Baptist Women.
She was the oldest member of the Broad Run Baptist Church, where she joined June 19, 1920, belonging for 80 years.
Friends will be received at the Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at the Broad Run Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Joseph Busch officiating. Burial will follow in the Broad Run Cemetery. Her body will lie in state at the church from 10-11 a.m., the funeral hour.
SHINNSTON -- Audra M. Kincaid, 88, of Wallace, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, March 26, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 5, 1911, at Folsom, a daughter of the late Ohley R. and Fannie Carson Kincaid.
Surviving are one niece, Barbara K. Kneece, Aiken, S.C.; one nephew, John M. Kincaid, Harpers Ferry; one sister-in-law, Maxine Kincaid, Wallace; and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Odus R. Kincaid.
Miss Kincaid was retired from the Harrison County Board of Education with 35 years of service. She was a graduate of Potomac State College. She traveled extensively after retirement.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and West Virginia Teachers Association. She has served in various offices of the Senior Citizens and Wallace Satellite. She was also a member of the Wallace United Methodist Church and served in various positions.
Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 4-7 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Richard Allen officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.
SHINNSTON -- William "Pap" Minor, 82, of Monongah, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 12, 1917, at Smithfield, a son of the late John Minor and Rella Myers Minor.
His wife, Mildred D. Jones Minor, preceded him in death Sept. 8, 1972.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, William E. and Mary L. Minor, Fairmont; one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley A. and Lester Long, Monongah, six grandchildren, Sgt. Lester Long, Belgium, Mark Long, Fairmont, William Long, Okla., Jennifer D. Long, and Alisa Joy, both of Monongah, and Mark Minor, Morgantown; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, June McClain, Clarksburg, Ruth Dennison, Smithfield, and Ann Glasscock, Ohio.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne, Bud and John D. Minor.
Mr. Minor retired as a telegraph operator for 40 years with B&O and Chessie Systems Railroad. He was a graduate of Smithfield High School.
Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Karen Camden officiating. Interment will follow at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Fairmont.
Elma Virginia Stout Robinson
GRAFTON -- Elma Virginia Stout Robinson, 92, of Maple Avenue, Grafton, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Grafton City Hospital, Grafton.
She was born June 9, 1907, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Hugh O. and Margaret Weber Stout.
Her husband, John H. "Happy" Robinson, preceded her in death in 1982.
Surviving are one son, John H. Robinson Jr. and wife, Sharon, Austin, Texas; one grandson, John H. Robinson III, Dallas, Texas; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Lorentz W. Stout.
Mrs. Robinson was a retired school teacher of 32 years, having taught in Harrison, Taylor and Kanawha counties. She was a member of the Women's Hospital Auxiliary of Grafton, Taylor County Association of Retired School Employees, Friends of Taylor County Library and National and State Retired School Employees Association.
She attended Harrison County Schools and received her bachelor of arts degree from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, where she was in the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was also a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Grafton.
Friends may call at the Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, when the funeral service will be held at the funeral home with Rev. Chris Mullett officiating. Burial will follow in Elkview Masonic Cemetery, Clarksburg.

NUTTER FORT -- Lewis C. Ross, 86, of Clarksburg, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2000, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following a long illness.
He was born July 17, 1913, at Ivydale, Clay County, a son of the late William G. and Mae King Ross.
His first wife, Ellen Sirk Ross, preceded him in death. He later married Loretta Groover Ross, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Anne Ross, Yellow Springs, Ohio, and Beverly Ross Baker, Xenia, Ohio; one stepson and wife, John and Jacqeline Groover, Virginia Beach, Va.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Norman (Mary R.) Groover Simms, Buckhannon; one sister, Sybil Harper, Miami, Fla.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard R. Ross.
Mr. Ross was a charter member and ordained deacon of the Freedom Southern Baptist Church of Nutter Fort. He retired in 1982 from King Knob Coal Company as general superintendent of the mountaineer division.

HARRISVILLE -- Carroll Fordham Smith, 99, formerly of Harrisville, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at the Cedar Hill Care Center in Zanesville, Ohio.
He was born April 23, 1900, at Smith's Run, near Prunty, a son of the late Elijah and Anna Fordham Smith.
His wife of over 70 years, Margaret Robinson Smith of Zanesville, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Jerry P. (Carolyn A.) Clousson, of Saint Charles, Ill.; two sons, Gene Burton Smith, Cambridge, Ohio, and Edward L. Smith, New Concord, Ohio; five grandchildren, Mark Clousson, Wheaton, Ohio, Kirk Clousson, Chicago, Ill., Dana Clousson Avalos, Downers Grove, Ill., Ann M. Smith Chalos, Harrisville, Todd E. Smith, Columbus, Ohio; eight great-grandchildren, Rachel H. and Jonathon P. Clousson, Michael A., Steven D. and Heather L. Avalos, Nicholas F. and Kathleen G. Chalos.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Dr. Robert Carroll Smith; one great-grandson, Nicholas F. Clousson; five brothers and sisters; and six half brothers and sisters.
Mr. Smith's family moved to Indian Creek near Harrisville when he was 11 years old. He attended the Patton School. He graduated form the Michigan State Automobile School in Detroit, Michigan, in 1921. He graduated from Harrisville High School, class of 1925. He attended the summer program at Fairmont Normal School. He graduated from Fairmont State College, class of 1930.
He received his masters degree from West Virginia University in 1951 and started teaching at Roadfork School in Ritchie County. He also taught in other Ritchie County schools. He retired in 1948 after teaching for 43 years.
He was a former member of the Ritchie County and West Virginia Retired Teachers Association. He was a member of the Harrisville Baptist Church since 1914 and a lifetime deacon. In his early years he was employed in the Ritchie County Oil Fields and in Morgantown at a glass factory.
Friends may call at the Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, after from 10-noon today. Visitation will be at the Harrisville Baptist Church from 1-2 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at the Harrisville Baptist Church at 2 p.m. today with Rev. Robert Perine officiating. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Harrisville.
Memorial contributions are requested to the Harrisville Baptist Church.
BUCKHANNON -- Mabel B. Weaver, 95, of 78 College Ave., Buckhannon, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Buckhannon Board and Care, Buckhannon.
She was born Feb. 2, 1905, at Logan, a daughter of the late John J. and Louisa B. Browning Hinchman.
Her husband, Thomas F. Weaver Sr., whom she married Dec. 17, 1927, preceded her in death March 13, 1976.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas F. Weaver Jr., Buckhannon, James E. Weaver, Morgantown, and Robert H. Weaver, Stevens Point, Wis.; one daughter, Jenny B. Kiel, Houston, Texas; two sisters, Gaie Gardner, Logan, and Anna Steele, Knoxville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Essie and Lila Hinchman.
Mrs. Weaver was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Buckhannon. She was also a member of Buckhannon Women's Club, College Club and United Methodist Women.
Friends will be received at Poling-Saint Clair Funeral Home, Buckhannon, from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Billee S. Mick and Rev. Dr. Charles Godwin. Burial will be in Heavner Cemetery.
