Jesse Lee Ashcraft

EVANS -- Jesse Lee Ashcraft, 67, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at his residence in Columbus, Ohio, of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

He was born June 11, 1933, in Clarksburg, a son of the late George and Dorthy Ashcraft.

His devoted wife of 47 years, Mary Eileen, survives.

Also surviving are two beloved children, Deborah "Debby" Lynn Ashcraft and David Lee Ashcraft, Orlando, Fla.; two grandchildren, David and Jennifer Fravel; his faithful companion, Spike; four sisters, Diane Wiseman, Norma Gallo, Clarksburg, Barbara Persinger, Fairfax, Va., and Mrs. John (Linda) Elsbury, Madison, Ohio; three brothers, Maurice, Clarksburg, Nelson, Geneva, Ohio, and James, Fairfax, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Cathy; and three brothers, Stanley, Michael and Rodney.

Mr. Ashcraft was educated in the Harrison County school system. He was a graduate of Victory High School and attended Franklin University.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, Korean War, serving on the destroyer, USS Ross DD563. He retired from Acushnet Company and AmeriSource. He previously worked with 7-up Bottling Company and Wonder Snack Foods.

He was a former longtime member of the Whitehall United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Main All Star League, Main Lanes. He bowled a 300 game on Feb. 9, 1965.

Honoring his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A private family graveside service will be held at Longview Cemetery, Evans. Arrangements are by Casto Funeral Home, Evans.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grant Riverside Hospice or American Heart Association.

Mr. Hubert Earnest 'Hugh' Bunner

BELINGTON -- Mr. Hubert Earnest "Hugh" Bunner, 79, of the Old Morgantown Pike, Belington, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Broaddus Hospital in Philippi at 9:12 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2000. He had been in his usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.

He was born June 2, 1921, at Dartmoore, a son of the late Homer and Grace Right Bunner.

His wife, the former Jean Durrett, whom he married Feb. 17, 1943, at Baltimore, Md., survives at their home in Belington.

Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Hugh Bunner and wife, Deborah, Clarksburg, Hal Kent Bunner and wife, Lori, Belington; four grandchildren, Amber Marie Bunner, Pennsylvania, Sheena Lee Ann Bunner, Sarah Grace Bunner, and Hallie Elaine Bunner, all of Belington; two sisters, Ella Mae Hill, Cleveland, Ohio, and Verna Alice "Bunny" Pavlick, Fairchance, Pa.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Howard and Denzil Allen Bunner.

Mr. Bunner was a 1941 graduate of Belington High School, and was a 1949 graduate of West Virginia Tech at Montgomery. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart for being combat wounded.

He was also formerly employed as a shop and math instructor at the Pruntytown Industrial School for boys, then worked for Compton Manufacturing as a design engineer until his retirement.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Laurel Mnt. Post 410 in Belington, was a 32nd degree Mason, belonging to the Masonic Lodge in Clarksburg and was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church in Belington.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, Belington, from 4-9 p.m. today and until 1 p.m. Tuesday, when a funeral serviceswill be conducted from the funeral home parlor with the Rev. Steve White officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery at Belington.

Charles H. Cross

PENNSBORO -- Charles H. Cross, 62, of Route 1, West Union, Cabin Run community, died Saturday, July 28, 2000, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 21, 1938, in Cabin Run, Doddridge County, a son of the late Johnnie and Mary Stull Cross.

Surviving are one daughter, Teresa L. Morris, Pennsboro; two brothers, Robert Cross, Ellenboro, and Johnny Cross, Toronto, Ohio; seven sisters, Doris Gaston, Parkersburg, Karen Hinton, Salem, Dorothy Nitz, Elizabeth Murphy and Bessie Roth, all of Toronto, Ohio, Dessie Burgess, Dover, Ohio, and Tressie Montigold, New Port Richey, Fla.

Mr. Cross was formerly employed by Simonton Building Products of Pennsboro as a security guard and janitor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Agraveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the Cabin Run Cemetery, Cabin Run, with the Rev. Chris Arveson officiating. Arrangements are by the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro.

Harold L. Goff

FAIRMONT -- Harold Lynn Goff, 64, of White Day Creek, formerly of White Hall, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at his home following a long battle with cancer.

He was born Feb. 16, 1936, in Wellsburg, a son of the late Harold S. and Jesse Francis Virts Goff.

His wife, Donna Lou Miller Goff, survives.

Also surviving are his stepmother, Mary Saunders Goff, Rowlesburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Victoria L. and Rev. Charles G. Steele, Frametown; one son, Scott Linn Goff, Smyrna, Ga.; two grandsons, Charles Matthew Steele and Timothy Joel Steele; one stepbrother and spouse, Rick and Wilda Saunders, Terra Alta.

He was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Holly Elisabeth Steele.

Mr. Goff was a retiree of Monongahela Power Company in Fairmont, where he was employed as an accounts supervisor. He retired in March 1992 after 30 years of service. He served four years with the U.S. Air Force.

He was involved in many church and community organizations during his life. He was a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church, where he participated in many capacities of service. They included treasurer, member and chairman of the Administrative Board, the Chancel Choir and many other boards and committees. He spearheaded the research and establishments of Central United Methodist Church as the sight of the first Father's Day service. He continued to help plan and organize the annual event each year until his illness no longer allowed him to do so.

He was also very active in the Boy Scouts of America, Mountaineer Area Council, the Kiwanis Club of Fairmont, and the Marion Unit of the American Cancer Society. In Boy Scouts, he served in many capacities, including volunteer, president and several other offices of the Mountaineer Area Council. His most recent position was serving as the Endowment Chairperson for the council as well as a vice president and member of the Council Executive Board. While with the Kiwanis, Mr. Goff's service included past president and Lt. Governor of Kiwanis International and was honored as Kiwanian of the Year for 1984-1985. While in the American Cancer Society, he filled many roles including Bagger Day Chairman, Team Captain for Relay for Life and President and member of the ACS Board. He also was a member of Toastmasters International, where he received the Distinguished Toastmaster of the Year award in 1961. He was a volunteer for literacy volunteer for five years. He worked with the Union Mission and its executive board for 27 years. He supported the efforts of the Future Business Leaders of America with his time and knowledge and was a member of the Fairmont Jaycees.

Friends may call at the Carpenter-Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from noon - 4 and 7-9 p.m. today. A service will be held at the Central United Methodist Church, at Third and Fairmont Avenue, at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Alicia Rapking officiating. Agraveside service will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery.

Mrs. Icie Gay Brady Hines

BELINGTON -- Mrs. Icie Gay Brady Hines, 82, of 200 Howard St., Belington, died at 3:45 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000, in the Davis Memorial Hospital. Death was sudden and unexpected.

She was born Sept. 9, 1917, at Webster County, a daughter of the late Elliot and Susan Arthur Brady.

She was formerly married to Leonard Hines, who preceded her in death Nov. 21, 1995.

Surviving are five sons, James Harold Hines, Massillon, Ohio, Roy Junior Hines, Denzil Elmer Hines, Eddie Duwaine Hines and Ricky Lynn Hines, all of Wadsworth, Ohio; six daughters, Barbara Jean Postalwait, Webster Springs, Donna Jean Kester, Belington, Phyllis Ann Webster, Elkins, Judith Darlene Sexton, Tampa, Fla., Linda Susan Fields, Morgantown, and Beverly Ann Johnson, Elkins; 25 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lona Muma, Pennsylvania.

She was also preceded in death by two children, six sisters and five brothers.

Mrs. Hines attended the schools of Webster County and was a homemaker. She had retired from caring for the elderly and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belington.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, Belington, from 5-9 p.m. Monday and until 2 p.m. Tuesday when services will be conducted from the funeral home parlor with the Rev. Timothy Rollins and the Rev. Rose "Jo" McCartney officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery, Belington.

H. Phillip Kellam

BRIDGEPORT -- H. Phillip Kellam, 80, of 653 Deerfield Drive, Bridgeport, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at his residence, following a sudden illness.

He was born Sept. 18, 1919, in Portsmouth, Va., a son of the late James Garrett Kellam and Lula Carroll Kellam.

His wife, Mildred J. Rittenhouse Kellam, survives.

Also surviving are four daughters; and one half brother, Simon L. Oliver Jr., Decatur, Ga.

He was also preceded in death one brother and one sister.

Mr. Kellam graduated from Woodrow-Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Va., and attended Old Dominion College in Norfolk, Va. He was in the Merchant Marines.

He retired from Allied Security in Pittsburgh, with over 20 years of service as a security guard. He also worked in Parkersburg for five years with St. Moritz Security. He worked for Wal-Mart from its opening date to present as a greeter, and more currently in the electronics department.

He was very active with the Internal Revenue Service as a volunteer with the V.I.T.A. Program, assisting people with income tax services.

He was a member of the Bridgeport Senior Citizens and of the Simpson Creek Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon for three years. He was an avid music lover, having been a member of the choir.

Friends will be received at the Burnside Funeral Home, 607 South Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Dr. C. Michael Hopkins presiding. Interment will follow in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

Doris MacMillan

HAINES CITY, Fla. -- Mrs. Doris Estelle McGraw MacMillan, 80, of Haines City, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Cairo, Ga., the second of five children of Henry Harris and Carrie Evelyn Van Landingham McGraw.

Her husband, Cpl. Alan E. MacMillan, of Haines City, whom she married Sept. 8, 1945, at the First United Methodist Church, Cairo, Ga., by the Rev. J.W. Hitch, survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Alan E. MacMillan Jr., Rockport, Mass., and David H. MacMillan, Naples, Fla.; three daughters, Julia G. Kline, Naperville, Ill., Elizabeth A. MacMillan, RN, CNM of Hyden, Ky., and Margaret M. Sanchez, Houston, Texas; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Mrs. MacMillan was a veteran of World War II, enlisting in the W.A.A.C. in Nov. 1942, and serving overseas with the U.S. Army in North Africa and Italy from 1943 to 1945. She was sworn into the Women's Army Corps by Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower in Algiers in 1943. She was discharged from the Army in June 1945, having attained the rank of sergeant.

She and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a gala party and reception hosted by their children at John's Resort in Haines City in the summer of 1995.

She followed her husband in his career as a railroad civil engineer and the family lived in Troy, N.Y., Glen Burnie, Md., Clarksburg, Oelwein, Iowa, and Ipswich, Mass. She and her husband moved to Haines City upon his retirement in 1981.

She was always very active in church work. She was the first president of the Women's Guild of the First Church in Ipswich (Congregational), and also the first women to be elected a trustee of that church in its 366 year history. She was a member of Haines City Chapter No. 68, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Beymer Memorial United Methodist Church in Winter Haven, Fla.

A memorial service will be held at the Lane-Holt Funeral Home Chapel, Haines City, at 2 p.m. Saturday. A second memorial service is tentatively planned for a later date at the First Church in Ipswich, Mass.

Brenda Warner

BUCKHANNON -- Brenda Warner, 34, of Route 1, Box 92-N, Buckhannon, died at 10:14 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2000, at her home.

She was born Jan. 1, 1966, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Jack and Betty Wilson Riley.

Her husband, William F. Warner, whom she married Jan. 29, 1996, survives in Buckhannon.

Also surviving are one son, Joseph Wagner; one daughter, Danielle Wagner, both of Buckhannon; three brothers, Jack Riley, Hartsville, S.C., and Jerry and Charles Riley, both of Nutter Fort; and three sisters, Kathy Hardy, Shirley Collins and Sue Davidson, all of Clarksburg.

Mrs. Warner was a store room clerk at Trus Joist.

Amemorial service will be announced at a later date. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, Buckhannon, is in charge of the arrangements.

Vance Percy Mayle

GRAFTON -- Vance Percy Mayle, 61, of Route 2, Webester Community, Grafton, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 31, 1938, in Taylor County, a son of the late George Herman Mayle who died March 29, 1986, and Bessie Lee Mayle who died 42 years ago.

His loving wife of 24 years, Lillian "Lil" Allison Mayle, survives.

Also surviving are two children from a previous marriage, Tammy Mayle and Pamela Hamilton, both of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Veldine) Mayle, Carolina, and Mrs. Clyde (Viva) Hosey, Grafton; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Vesta Leah Lowe and Vera Aldridge; and one brother, Victor H. Mayle.

Mr. Mayle was a former coal miner and tree trimmer. He attended West Hill Wesleyan Methodist Church.

He was a cancer survivor for 10 1/2 years. A special thanks goes out to Hospice for their loving care.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home, Grafton, from 1-9 p.m. today. The body will lie in state from noon - 1 p.m. Monday at West Hill Wesleyan Methodist Church where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Winfield Mayle and the Rev. David Maley officiating. Interment will be in West Hill Cemetery.

David Lee Morasco

GRAFTON -- David Lee Morasco, 42, of Grafton, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at his mother's residence after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 20, 1958, a son of Rose Lee Morasco and the late Samuel Andrew Morasco.

Surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mr. Morasco was a real estate agent and insurance agent, employed by Parrish-Morasco Insurance Agency of Grafton.

He attended St. Augustine Grade School until it closed and was a graduate of Grafton High School. He attended West Virginia University.

He was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Grafton.

A Memorial Mass of Christian service will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Ronald Prechtl as celebrant. A Committal service will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for mass cards, or Hospice Care Corp., 207 Latrobe St., Grafton, WV 26354.

Mrs. Georgia E. Poling

PHILIPPI -- Mrs. Georgia E. Poling, 92, of 101 Clinton St., Salamanca, N.Y., a long time resident of Philippi, died Friday evening, July 28, 2000, at Olean General Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 31, 1907, in Philippi, a daughter of the late Charles and Victoria Pitman Andrick.

Her husband, Noel Poling Sr., preceded her in death in 1962.

Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. Dorothy (Hugh) Daugherty, Philippi, Mrs. Mary (Olen) Burner, Graysville, Ohio, Mrs. Norma Jean (Ralph) Jones, Philippi, Mrs. Carol (William) Schreckengost, 28 Pine Street, Salamanca, Mrs. Donna (Raymond) Stevens, Sierra Vista, Ariz., Mrs. Sharon (Davis) Johnson, Nashville, Tenn., and Mrs. Nancy (Lawrence) Pierce, 101 Clinton St., Salamanca; two sons, Mr. Noel (Linda) Poling, 19 East St., Salamanca; and Mr. Virgil (Sue) Poling, 17 Newton St., Salamanca; 45 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Ruth Carder and Theressa Weidlich.

Mrs. Poling was a member of the Church of Christ, Philippi.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, gardening and flowers. She will be remembered for her love of her family.

Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Monday at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 North Walnut St., Philippi.

Mike Renick

MANNINGTON -- Mike Renick, 72, of Mannington, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at the West Virginia University Hospital, Morgantown.

He was born June 12, 1928, in Mannington, a son of the late Steve and Anna Chess Renick.

His wife of 49 years, Edna B. Tate Renick, survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Michael and Jack Renick, both of Mannington, and Bill Renick, Hamstead, Md.; two brothers, Frank Renick, Akron, Ohio, and John Renick and wife, June Renick, Mannington; four sisters, Mrs. Norman "Red" (Katherine) Anderson, Mannington, Mary Louise Hatfield, Leesburg, Fla., Virginia Boone, Baltimore, Md., and Josephine Miku, Canton, Ohio; and five grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Charles Renick, Mannington.

Mr. Renick was a member of the Charity Baptist Church in Oakdale, and the UMWA. He was a farmer and a devoted father and husband.

He had served in the U.S. Air Force between World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Consolidated Coal Company, Mine No. 95 at Robinson Run with more than 30 years of service.

Friends will be received at the Dent Funeral Home, Mannington, from 1-9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Homer Ham and Pastor Herman George officiating. Burial will follow in the Mannington Memorial Park.

Madeline Wright Kyer Swiger

WARREN, Ohio -- Madeline Wright Kyer Swiger, 70, of 5324 Mahoning Ave., died at 8:55 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2000, in her home following a long illness.

She was born Jan. 16, 1930, in Lost Creek, a daughter of Lewis and Eva Castle Wright.

Her first husband, Earl Kyer, whom she married June 22, 1956, preceded her in death June 24, 1993. Her second husband, Dorsey Swiger, preceded her in death in Feb. 1997.

Surviving are three sons, William J. Kyer, Geneseo, Ill., Michael W. Kyer, Champion, and Charles E. Kyer, Warren; two daughters, Rhonda J. Ramsey and Rebecca J. Gilmer, Champion; two sisters, Lucille M. Bunnell and Betty Freeman, Clarksburg; two brothers, Harold Wright, Flagstaff, Ariz., and Robert Wright, Morehead, Ky.; and 12 grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Phillip A. Kyer; and two brothers, Glenn and Carl.

Mrs. Swiger retired in 1992 as a cook in the dietary department of the former Warren General Hospital after working 13 years.

She was a member of Full Gospel Chapel in Clarksburg, and enjoyed flower gardening.

Burial was at Champion Township Cemetery.

Adella Victoria Wick

BRIDGEPORT -- Adella Victoria Wick, 75, of Sherwood Drive, Bridgeport, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, of an extended illness.

She was born Aug. 22, 1924, in Washington, Pa., a daughter of the late John and Lorena Patterson Williams.

Her husband, Bruce A. Wick, preceded her in death in 1999.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Beckie and Angelo Alvaro, Bridgeport, Suzette and Larry Lipkovitch, Ritchton Park, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Deanna, Maria and Mark Alvaro.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, John Williams.

Mrs. Wick was a former employee of Pennsylvania Bell, C&P Telephone of West Virginia, and Newbrough's Film Box.

She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksburg, where she served as an Elder and a Deacon. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Women.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Burnside Funeral Home, Bridgeport. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Eric Faust officiating. Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery.

Norman C. Williams

SHINNSTON -- Norman C. Williams, 71, of East Avenue, Shinnston, died at 11:20 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Heartland of Clarksburg following an extended illness.

He was born in Spelter, March 16, 1929, a son of the late Mollie Wilcox Williams and O.O. Williams.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris I. Williams, on Aug. 31, 1999.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley F. and Charles Colvin, West Chester, Pa.; two granddaughters, Dyann Colvin and Chris A. Powers and husband, James, all of West Chester; two brothers, Stanley Williams, Shinnston, and Bernard Williams, Clarksburg; and two sisters, Mary Swingle and Janice Mason, both of Westerville, Ohio.

Mr. Williams was a graduate of Victory High School. He had worked at the M&H Zinc Plant in Spelter until it closed in 1971. He then worked at the Union Carbide Co. as a millwright welder, having retired in 1991 with 20 years of service.

He was a Korean veteran, having served with the U.S. Army and was a lifetime member of the American Legion post No. 31, Shinnston, with 37 years of service. He was active in the day-to-day operations of the Legion and had served as the executive officer for 30 years and on the executive and house committees.

He was an advisor for the American Legion Cub Scouts. He was an avid golfer and a Methodist.

Friends may call at the Dorsey Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Austin Burrough officiating. Interment will be in the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.
