ELKINS -- Hansel Bazzle, 82, of Elkins died at 7:10 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2000, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
He was born July 20, 1917, in Elkins, a son of the late Preston and Carma Cooper Bazzle.
His wife, the former Mildred V. Peters, whom he married June 1, 1917, preceded him in death on Nov. 24, 1999.
Surviving are one son, Jim Bazzle, Elkins; one brother, Ernest Bazzle, and one sister, Helen Barton, both of Williamsburg, Va., and two grandchildren, J. Parker Bazzle and Ashley C. Bazzle, both of Charleston.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Carma.
Mr. Bazzle was a graduate of Elkins High School and Davis and Elkins College. He was employed as a business manager for Smith Chevrolet, which later became Mountaineer Motor Sales in Elkins.
He, along with his wife, founded Revelle Family Campground at Bowden. He was active in the operation of the campground for over 30 years.
He was past master and 50- year member of Randolph Lodge No. 108, A.F. and A.M.
He was a member of the Knights of the South Branch Jousting Club and, because of his many years of dedication to jousting, was honored with the title of "The Knight of the Seneca Trail." He served as chairman of the jousting competition for the Mountain State Forest Festival for 55 years. On June 15, 1985, he was inducted into the National Jousting Hall of Fame.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home, Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Elkins Memorial Gardens, where Randolph Lodge No. 108, A.F. and A.M., will conduct Masonic graveside rites.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Randolph County Humane Society, P.O. Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mr. Bazzle.
JANE LEW -- Mary M. Jackson, 98, of Jane Lew, died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2000, at The Home On The Hill operated by Shirley Burrows of Route 2, Jane Lew.
She was born Dec. 4, 1901, at Jane Lew, a daughter of the late Minter Earl and Allcinda Blake Cookman Jackson.
Surviving are two first cousins, Christine Jackson White, Jane Lew, and Mary Goodloe Hall, Frederick, Md.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, George Jackson, and one niece, Julia Jackson Nichols.
Miss Jackson was a Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at the Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew, from 7-9 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Clifford N. West officiating. Burial will follow in the Broad Run Cemetery.
DETROIT, Mich. -- Kenneth R. McCauley, 67, of Detroit, formerly of Lost Creek, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999.
He was born March 22, 1932, a son of the late John and Lottie Harrison McCauley.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Robin McCauley and wife, Diana, Stafford, Va.; grandson Justin McCauley and former wife Louise J. McCauley, Clarksburg; one brother, Lloyd McCauley, Clarksburg; three sisters, Betty J. Woodbeck and Naomi Weister, both of Michigan, and Anna M. Montgomery, South Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Louise Morrison, and one brother, John McCauley.
Mr. McCauley served in the Korean War. He was a carpenter by trade.
A memorial will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Harrison County Bank of Lost Creek in the name of Anna Mae Montgomery in memory of Mr. McCauley.
CLARKSBURG -- Anthony Luigi Martino, 87, of West Palm Beach, Fla., formerly of 102 Willison St., Clarksburg, died at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2000, in West Palm Beach.
He was born April 14, 1913, in Meadowbrook, a son of the late Frank Martino and Rosina Guarascio Martino.
His wife, Julia M. Femia Martino, whom he married in 1940, preceded him in death.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Frank J. and Laurie Adams Martino, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; three grandchildren, Julia Martino Bettencourt, and Matthew M. and Ryan A. Martino; one great-granddaughter, Isabella T. Bettencourt; two brothers, Larry and David Martino; two sisters, Mary Yaquinto and Josephine Rogers, all of Clarksburg; two sisters-in-law, Sperry Romano, Charleston, and Josephine Martino, Clarksburg, and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Louie Martino, and one sister, Lena Martino.
Mr. Martino was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarksburg. He was a member of the William Marconi Lodge, Sons of Italy, and the Columbian Club.
He was a retired machinist from Rolland Glass Factory.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, where a vigil service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Cesidio J. Federico as celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Geraldine 'Gerry' Freeland Owens
RIVESVILLE -- Geraldine "Gerry" Freeland Owens, 82, of Floyd Street, Grant Town, died Saturday morning, April 15, 2000, in the Arbors at Fairmont.
She was born March 25, 1918, in Point Marion, Pa., a daughter of the late Charles and Sadie Powell Freeland.
Her husband, Carl Morris Owens of Grant Town, survives.
Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Dick and Vivian Owens, Morgantown, and Rodney and Barbara Owens, Bridgeport; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Mike Arcure, Fairmont, and Virginia and Richard Stahl, Elkins; two brothers, James and George Freeland, both of Akron, Ohio; two sisters, Louise Moore and Dottie O'Dell, both of Fairmont; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Jack Freeland; one sister, Betty Busher, and two grandchildren, Jodi Stahl and Christopher Owens.
Mrs. Owens was a member of the Ballah Chapel United Methodist Church in Grant Town. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Fairmont.
She was an avid basket-weaver, traveling throughout the state of West Virginia for this art. She also taught many basket-weaving classes throughout the state. She also wrote cooking articles, titled "Cooking Capers," for the Fairmont Times newspaper. She had been employed in the West Virginia Extension Office with 10 years of service.
Friends may call at the Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Jasper Street, Rivesville, from 1-9 p.m. Monday and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Chuck Jerman officiating. Burial will follow in Monumental Cemetery, Monumental.

BUCKHANNON -- Nancy Belle Riley, 88, of Route 2, Box 378, Buckhannon, died at 5 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2000, at her home.
She was born July 31, 1911, at Wolfe County, Ky., a daughter of the late Rev. Henry V. Lawson and Polly D. Centers Lawson.
Her husband, Seymour J. Riley, whom she married Dec. 24, 1927, preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 1972.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Reba M. and Lester Hamilton, Monaca, Pa.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard J. and Ada M. Riley, and Seymour Vencil and Gloria M. Riley, all of Buckhannon; four sisters, Polly J. Gaulkner, Sonya F. Wainscott, Rhoda Cole and Virginia Jones, all of Indiana; one brother, Marvin Lawson, Virginia; her stepmother, Neva Lawson, Indiana; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters, and two grandsons.
Mrs. Riley was a homemaker. She attended the Church of God in Buckhannon. She was loved by all that knew her.
Friends will be received at the Poling-Saint Clair Funeral Home, Buckhannon, from 4-9 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be at the Church of God, 16 Thurman Ave., Buckhannon, at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Frank Spears and Pastor Greg Whitlow officiating. Burial will be in Bailey Cemetery, Buckhannon.

PENNSBORO -- Terry Connard Shaffer, 56, of Glendale community, Route 1, Cairo, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, in Parkersburg.
He was born Nov. 28, 1943, at Salem, a son of Naomi M. Davis Shaffer Webb of Glendale community, Cairo, and the late Clarence V. Shaffer.
His wife of 36 years, Barbara Kay Webb Shaffer, survives.
Also surviving are his stepfather, Laird Webb, Glendale community, Cairo; two sons, Brian E. Shaffer, Glendale community, Cairo, and Kevin C. Shaffer, Morgantown; one daughter, Crystal D. Bartlett, Glendale community, Cairo, and three grandchildren, Christopher and Jordan Shaffer and Rachel Bartlett.
Mr. Shaffer was a truck driver with 38 years of experience, having worked for Ritchie Concrete, Jackson Trucking and A.&R. Transport of New Haven.
He was a 1961 graduate of Pennsboro High School, a former member of the former Glendale I.O.O.F. Lodge, and a member of the Glendale United Methodist Church.
Friends may call at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, after 2 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Harlan Hodge and the Rev. Daniel Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery at Ellenboro.
Marilyn Jeanenne 'Mimi' Smith
FORT ASHBY -- Marilyn Jeanenne "Mimi" Smith, 59, of Fort Ashby, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
She was born Oct. 17, 1940, in Elkins, a daughter of Helen Poe Evick of Elkins and the late Arthur Evick.
Her husband, John D. Smith Sr., survives.
Also surviving are one son, John D. Smith Jr. and wife, Michele, Fort Ashby; one brother, Donald Evick and wife, Tony, Lewisburg; two sisters, Anna R. Collett, and Carolyn Stalnaker and husband, Jim, all of Elkins; her lifelong friend, Jane Bond, Seminole, Fla., and one grandson, Nicholas, whom she called "the joy of her life."
Mrs. Smith was a registered nurse and served as a utilization review analyst at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md. She was a graduate of Elkins High School and the Davis and Elkins College School of Nursing. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Fort Ashby.
She was an avid runner and competed in numerous area races. The high point of her 20 years of running came in 1998 when she completed the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Route 28, Fort Ashby, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be at Trinity United Methodist Church, Fort Ashby, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Dallas Forren officiating. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be John Llewellyn, Justin Llewellyn, Harry Johnston, Brad Stalnaker, Jim Stacy and David Stacy.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, 111 South George St., Cumberland, MD, 21502.
PHILIPPI -- Luther Alexander Talbott, 82, of Country Living Nursing Home, Grafton, formerly of Route 1, Belington, Talbott community, died Saturday morning, April 15, 2000, in Country Living Nursing Home.
He was born Jan. 9, 1918, in Barbour County, a son of the late Harrison E. and Hutton Yeager Talbott.
His wife, the former Evelyn V. Golden, preceded him in death in 1987.
Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Carolyn and Don Southerly, Brenda and Larry Foy, all of Belington, June and Joe Dickenson, Philippi, and Marlene Poling, Fairfax, Va.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Milford and Dolly Talbott, Dorsey and Jeanie Talbott, and Marvin and Dianna Talbott. all of Belington; one sister, Maretia Mollahan, Belington; one brother, Earl B. Talbott, Belington; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers.
Mr. Talbott was a retired truck driver, having retired from Poling Trucking. He was a United Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 North Walnut St., Philippi, after 6 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Doyle Rider officiating. Interment will follow in the Belington Fraternal Cemetery.
