Infant Quinton James Bodkin
WESTON -- Infant Quinton James Bodkin of Route 2, Jane Lew, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
He was born April 16, 2000, in Morgantown, a son of Gregory J. Bodkin and Kimberly D. Paugh Bodkin, Route 2, Jane Lew.
Also surviving are two brothers, Gregory S. Bodkin and Aaron L. McGraw, both at home; his paternal grandparents, John F. and Margie J. Bodkin, Good Hope; his maternal grandparents, Albert and Betty Paugh, Westfield; his maternal great-grandmother, Ruth Skinner, Turnertown, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lincoln R. McGraw.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Weston, with the Rev. Timothy Hughes officiating. Interment will follow services.
Floyd Funeral Home, Weston, is in charge of arrangements.
FAIRMONT -- William Daniel Chapman II, 52, of Loyall, Ky., died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Wellmont-Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tenn., from injuries suffered in a vehicle accident.
He was born June 23, 1947, in Kanawha County, a son of William D. Chapman I of Oakhill and the late Margaret Weaver Chapman.
His wife, Cathy Browning Chapman, survives.
Also surviving are one son, Brandon Chapman, a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.; two daughters, Kaylan and Dana Chapman, both of Elkins; one brother, Thomas Chapman and his wife, Jan, Oakhill; one sister, Barbara Chapman, Ansted; his father-in-law, James P. Browning Sr., Fairmont, and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Nadeene Woodley Browning.
Mr. Chapman was employed as a preparation plant manager at the Lone Mountain Processing Plant, a subsidiary of Arch Coal Company.
He graduated in 1966 from East Bank High School in Pratt. He attended West Virginia University and graduated from the West Virginia Institute of Technology with degrees in both electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran, assigned to a special radio observation unit with the First Calvary Division. He was awarded several medals, among them two Bronze Stars for valor, and was recognized for "outstanding performance of duty in combat environment."
He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was an avid reader and a part-time gunsmith. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association.

CLARKSBURG -- Sam O. Cox, 79, of Route 1, Box 76, Lost Creek, West Milford, died Monday afternoon, April 17, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 20, 1921, in West Milford, a son of the late William Roy Cox and the late Jettie G. Floyd Cox.
On Nov. 26, 1945, he married the former Mabel Hall of Morehead, Ky., who survives.
Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, James Robert and April Cox, Lawrenceville, Ga.; one daughter, Julie Rebecca Cox and friend, Ray Bolton, Doddridge County, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Allen and Mary Ellen Somerville, and one half sister, Marjorie Parris.
Mr. Cox was a member of West Milford United Methodist Church, Meuse Argonne Post No. 573, VFW, Clarksburg, the National Rifle Association, and was an active member of the West Milford Senior Citizens Satellite.
He had served for five years as a member of the Silver Haired Legislature, C.O.L.E. (Committee on Legislation for the Elderly).
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1942-1945 in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He retired from Union Carbide Corporation, Anmoore, after 34 years employment.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, with the Rev. Gary Rapking presiding. Interment will be in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown, where military burial rites will be conducted.
In lieu of flowers it is requested that expressions of sympathy be memorial contributions to People's Hospice, P.O. Box 1680, Clarksburg, WV, 26302.
ELKINS -- Robert D. Hough, 89, of 26 Bridgewater Drive, Elkins, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at his home. His death was unexpected.
He was born April 30, 1910, at Fairmont, a son of the late Charles D. and Minnie B. Conklin Hough.
He was twice married. His first wife, the former Katherine Herrington, whom he married Aug. 20, 1931, at Oakland, Md., preceded him in death on June 20, 1981. His second wife, Ruth Lester, whom he married in November 1981, preceded him in death in April 1998.
Surviving are one son, Charles D. Hough and his wife, Phoebe, Dearborn, Mich.; two stepsons, Dr. Stephen Lester and Dr. William Lester; one grandson, Charles D. Hough Jr., and one granddaughter, Sarah Hough Daniels, both of Golden Valley, Minn.; three stepgrandsons, William Christopher, William Ira and Alex Lester; four stepgranddaughters, Anne Lester, Stephanie Chandler, Elisha Lester and Melissa Lester; one great-great-grandson, William Hough; two great-great-granddaughters, Kristen and Maren Daniels, and two stepgreat-great-grandsons, Bryan and Jason Lester.
Mr. Hough was a graduate of Fairmont West High School, Class of 1928. He was employed in various jobs until 1939, when he joined the engineering staff of radio station WMMN in Fairmont as a transmitter and control room engineer.
He was chief engineer of that station from 1942 until 1947, when he constructed a new radio station in Clarksburg. He was co-founder, chief engineer, vice president and part owner of radio station WPDX until its sale in 1963. He was a licensed radio amateur, having secured his license W8ESQ in 1931.
He belonged to the American Radio League, the Quarter Century Wireless Association, the Old Old Timers Club and the Antique Wireless Association.
He was a charter member of the Mountaineer Amateur Association in Fairmont and a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
In 1972, Mr. Hough became a licensed land surveyor in West Virginia and was a charter member of the West Virginia Association of Land Surveyors.
He was a former member of the Elkins Lions Club, having served for 35 years.
In 1956, upon the death of his brother, Mr. Hough became one of the trustees of the C.E. Hough Estate with properties in Randolph and Barbour counties. In 1963, he moved to Elkins to actively engage in the daily operation of the trust.
He was also a director and secretary of the Roaring Creek Coal Mining Corporation until its sale in 1976.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Elkins.
BUCKHANNON -- Evelyn K. King, 60, of Route 3, Box 305-10, Buckhannon, died at 10:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
She was born Sept. 13, 1939, in Preston County, a daughter of the late Ray O. Carr and Ethel V. Richards Carr.
Surviving are three brothers, Louis Carr, French Creek, Wayne L. Carr, Thorneville, Ohio, and Don Carr, Buckhannon, and one sister, Jean Taylor, Kingwood.
Ms. King was a nurse's aide at St. Joseph's Hospital. She attended Rock Cave Baptist Church.
PINE GROVE -- Martha Jean Leach Price, 74, of Smithfield died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Ezra Eugene and Bertha Coen Ash.
Her first husband, Melvin Leach, preceded her in death. Her second husband, Wilbert "Wib" Price, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Micheal "Mick" Leach and his wife, Karen, Morgantown, and Wilbert "Webbie" Price and his wife, Ruth A., Smithfield; two daughters, Mrs. Ted (Gerri) Butler, Smithfield, and Mrs. C. Dewey (Rosie) Moore, Chester; two sisters, Mrs. Clyde (Judy) Myers, Massillon, Ohio, and Mrs. Roy )Tootsie) Ice, New Martinsville; 12 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Micheal L. Leach Jr.; five brothers, William "Buck," James "Jake," Pete, Barney and Eugene Ash, and four sisters, Charlotte "Lottie" Hayhurst, Edna Ash, Pauline Morgan and Margarete Barr.
Mrs. Price was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God at Smithfield. She had worked at Sterling Faucet and Hotel Morgan, both at Morgantown.
Emilio "Slim" Millard Scolopio
CLARKSBURG -- Emilio "Slim" Scolopio, 85, of 2007 Hamill Ave. died around 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Heartland of Clarksburg.
He was born April 21, 1914, in Harrison County, a son of the late James Scolopio and Rose Friao Scolopio.
His wife of 65 years, Genevieve I. Scolopio, whom he married in February of 1935, survives.
Surviving are one adopted daughter, Mary Hustead and her husband, Jim, Clarksburg; one sister, Madeline Veltri, Clarksburg, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rocky and Robert Scolopio; one sister, Elizabeth Gaines, and one nephew.
Mr. Scolopio had retired from Rolland Glass after 42 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Columbian Club and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
He was a graduate of Victory High School, where he was an All-State football and basketball player. He was an avid bowler. He was a member of the Marconi Lodge, Sons of Italy, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of St. James Catholic Church in North View, Clarksburg.
Friends may call at the Bartolo Funeral Home, 515 West Pike St., Clarksburg, from 7-9 p.m. today and 11 a.m.-9 p.m.. Friday. A funeral liturgy outside Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Father Robert A. Perriello as the celebrant.
Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
FLATWOODS -- Betty Jo Shingler, 71, of Dille, Clay County, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in the Summersville Long Term Care Center at Summersville after a long illness.
She was born March 5, 1929, at Widen, a daughter of the late E.B. Shingler and Minnie Carte Shingler.
Surviving are one sister, Edna B. Dalton, Sutton, and several nieces and nephews.
Ms. Shingler was the retired postmaster at Widen.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home, Flatwoods.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to service time. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Big Union Baptist Church, Dille, with the Rev. Larry Gawthrop officiating. Burial will follow in the Walker Cemetery, Strange Creek.
BEDFORD, Pa. -- H. Wil-lard White, 89, of Lin-coln Drive, Bedford, died Wed-nesday, April 12, 2000, at Nason Hospital in Roaring Spring.
He was born Oct. 1, 1910, in Clarksburg, a son of the late A. Lisle and Bessie Krozer White.
His wife, Pauline Mallory, whom he married Feb. 25, 1934, in Clarksburg, survives.
Also surviving are four children, Paula, wife of Robert D. Brown, Bedford, Sue, wife of Adrian Nestor, Danville, Calif., the Rev. Dr. Howard W. White Jr., Waynesville, N.C., and Lisla, wife of George Damoulos, Livermore, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lisle Albright, Fairmont, and one brother, Robert B. White, Bridgeport.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Stabo, and three brothers, A.L. Jr., John and James.
Mr. White was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Bedford and a former lifetime member of Christ Episcopal Church in Clarksburg, where he served as treasurer and was on the Vestry.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 6, A.F. & A.M. of Clarksburg, the Wheeling and Clarksburg Consistory, The Nemesis Shrine of Parkersburg and the Central West Virginia Shrine Club of Clarksburg.
He was a member of the Clarksburg Country Club. He was an avid golfer and loved to travel.
He attended Devitt Prep School and West Virginia University, where he was initiated into the Phi Knappa Psi fraternity.
He retired in 1975 after 41 years with Consolidated Gas Corp.
Memorial services will be held at a later time at the convenience of the family at St. James Episcopal Church, with interment in the Church Memorial Gardens.
