SHINNSTON -- E. Ann Harrison Barr, 74, of Gypsy, formerly of Fairview, died at 7:07 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2000, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
She was born Sept. 1, 1925, at Fairmont, a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Olive B. McKnight Harrison.
Her husband, Reason H. Barr, whom she married April 20, 1946, preceded her in death on July 3, 1992.
Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Annette and Edward Keezee, Fairmont, Peggy Burkhammer, Gypsy, and Mary B. and Sam Brown, Worthington; three grandchildren, Carol Brown, Mike and Renea Keezee, and Robert Keezee; three great-grandchildren, Lance and Katlyn Keezee and Reonna Stout; two sisters, Lelia Harrison Wilson, Gypsy, and Shirley Harrison Robison, Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Arlie, Benjamin and Robert Harrison, and three sisters, Harriet Monroe, Sylvia P. Snyder and Patricia E. Lake.
Mrs. Barr was retired from the Shinnston Foodland.
She was a member of Gypsy Community Church and Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 103, Shinns-ton.
Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 1-9 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.
A funeral service will be at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Duane Bartrug officiating.
Interment will follow in the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.

GRAFTON -- Edith Cox, 89, of Route 5, Grafton, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at her residence after a long illness.
She was born March 23, 1911, in Thornton, a daughter of the late Amos and Flora Weaver Bennett.
Her husband, Ira Cox, whom she married Sept. 20, 1930, preceded her in death on May 11, 1958.
Surviving are seven sons and spouses, Max Cox and his wife, Jean, Glen Cox, David Cox and his wife, Karen, all of Grafton, Luther Cox, Fort Myers, Fla., Robert Cox and his wife, Vicki, Knoxville, Md., William Cox and his wife, Kathy, and Jim Cox and his wife, Kathy, Joliet, Ill.; three daughters and spouses, Mabel Harris and her husband, Cecil, Marth Bragg and her husband, Joseph, all of Joliet, and Mary Litzenger, Warren, Ohio; 30 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Carl Bennett; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five brothers, Zeke, Mike, Harvey, Frank and Jim Bennett, and five sisters, Hazel DeMoss, Mary Bennett, Mabel Sayres, Ann Kinney and Pauline Shingleton.
Mrs. Cox was a waitress at the Ivan Dale Supper Club.
She was a Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at the Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, from 3-9 p.m. Monday and from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Don Wogan officiating.
Burial will take place in the Bluemont Cemetery, Grafton.
WESTON -- J. Eugene Bowen, 70, of HC 66, Dry Fork, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at his residence following a sudden illness.
He was born Nov. 12, 1929, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Marley Bowen and Mary Barnes Bowen.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Dana E. Bowen and Vicki Jo, Weston; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Bowen McCartney and Christopher, Midlothian, Va.; three grandchildren, Dana E. Bowen II, Cpl. Chad R. Bowen, USMC, and Emily C. McCartney; two sisters, Joy Gerrard, Clarksburg, and Marlene Steele, Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Edward J. Bowen.
Mr. Bowen retired as assistant chief operating engineer for Equitable Gas Company with 34 years of service. He attended Stonecoal United Methodist Church. He was a past master of Weston Lodge No. 10 A.F. and A.M. where he was honored as a 32nd-degree mason.
Friends will be received at the Floyd Funeral Home, 402 Main Ave., Weston, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Bill Dawson officiating. Interment will follow in the Weston Masonic Cemetery, Weston. Weston Lodge No. 10 A.F. and A.M. will conduct graveside rites.
CLARKSBURG -- Opal Mae Evans, 94, of SunBridge Care Center, Salem, died at 2:20 a.m. Friday, April, 21, 2000, in SunBridge Center.
She was born Nov. 18, 1905, in Jarvisville, a daughter of the late Julius Matthey and Della Sophia Cunningham Matthey.
Twice married, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Cassel Criss and by her second husband, Ray E. Evans.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia J. and Ronald W. Carder, Salem, and Jewel A. and John L. Perri, Clarksburg; three stepdaughters, Patricia Evans, Clarksburg, Mary Davis, Richlands, Va., and Mrs. Don (Judy) Scheffer, Richmond, Va.; one sister, Catherine Thomas, Baltimore, Md.; three brothers, Warner Matthey and Fred Matthey, both of Salem, and Raymond Matthey, Bristol; 10 grandchildren, LeAnna Davis, Jackie Ritter, Diane Williams, Holly Hernandez, Bobby, Randy, Tim and Darren Criss, Criss Irvin and Johnny Perri; six stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Davis, Colleen Ferrell, Eddie and Chris Davis, Sheila Crockett and Richard Damron; 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Robert E. Criss; one daughter, Murna L. Irvin; one grandson, Logan Criss; one sister, Edna Swisher; and four brothers, Cecil, Clarence, Erlo and James Matthey.
Mrs. Evans was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church. She had worked at the Salem Industrial Home for Youth. She was a homemaker and had been a caregiver for numerous friends and family.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from 1-7 p.m. today where a funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Charles Echols conducting. Interment will be in the Salem I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Charmaine Sue Angeline Mellinger
BRIDGEPORT -- Charmaine Sue Angeline Mellinger, 50, of 813 Long St., Bridgeport, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Pa., following a brief illness.
She was born June 30, 1949, in Royal, Pa., a daughter of Mary M. Takacs Angeline who survives in Grindstone, Pa., and the late Richard Angeline, who preceded her in death Nov. 28, 1997.
Her husband, Ronald W. Mellinger, whom she married June 21, 1969, survives in Bridgeport.
Also surviving are three daughters, Cara N. Ashworth, Bridgeport, Charee M. Mellinger, Clarksburg, and Cerissa S. Mellinger, Bridgeport; two sons, Ronald B. Mellinger, Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Randy Christopher Mellinger, Bridgeport; one grandchild, Daylan B. Ashworth, Bridgeport; and one sister, Sherry Dvorchak, Smock, Pa.
Mrs. Mellinger was a well known seamstress, having worked mainly out of her home creating and altering band uniforms, wedding gowns and other various articles of clothing. She had worked at Kimberly's prior to their closing, and at the Elite Cleaners from Nov. to Jan. of this year.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, having been a member since March 24, 1974. She served as president of the Relief Society for four years and was very active with the children's programs.
Friends will be received at the Burnside Funeral Home, 607 South Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with James Ross Frame, Branch President, presiding. Entombment will follow in the Floral Hill Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to be used according to the family's wishes.
BRIDGEPORT -- Gaye Reeves Phipps, 90, of Bridgeport, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at the Clarksburg Continuous Care Center.
She was born Nov. 4, 1909, in Camden-On-Gauley, Webster County, a daughter of the late Donald L. and Elizabeth Anderson Bowyer.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Clyde E. Reeves Sr. in 1969, and Wesley W. Phipps in 1998.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Clyde and Velma Reeves, Clarksburg; two grandchildren, Philip E. Reeves, Dayton, Va., and Sharon A. Cottrill, Jane Lew; two great-grandchildren, Allison K. Reeves and Nicholas A. Reeves, Dayton, Va.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert L. Bowyer and Ralph Bowyer; and one sister, Evelyn Osborne.
Mrs. Phipps previously worked in the office as a volunteer at the Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Simpson Creek Baptist Church in Bridgeport.
Friends will be received at the Allen Funeral Home, 215 East Main St., Bridgeport, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday with Dr. C. Michael Hopkins conducting. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Harrisville.
CLARKSBURG -- Gladine A. Riley, 82, of Salem, Wolf Summit Community, died at 9:53 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2000, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
She was born Aug. 9, 1917, in Leopold, Doddridge County, a daughter of the late John Hinterer and Gertrude Finster Hinterer.
Her husband, William S. Riley, whom she married Dec. 9, 1949, preceded her in death Dec. 8, 1998.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary K. Riley, at home; three sisters, Thelma Schmidt, Alum Bridge, Edith Riley, New Milton, and Faye Riley, Route 4, Weston; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Regina Pollock and Ruth Strickling.
Mrs. Riley was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was a graduate of West Union High School and graduated from Glenville State College.
Mrs. Riley was a homemaker and teacher. She had taught in Doddridge County elementary schools for several years.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Monday. A vigil service will be conducted in the funeral home at 7 p.m. Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Cesidio J. Federico as celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Walter Glenn Sutton
Lyda May Sutton
WEST UNION -- Walter Glenn Sutton, 82, and Lyda May Sutton, 79, of Route 1, New Milton, Lick Run Community, died at 4:25 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2000, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident at the junction of U.S. Route 50 and Route 18.
Mr. Sutton was born March 10, 1918, at Lick Run, a son of the late Samuel B. Sutton and Idell E. Willis Sutton.
Mrs. Sutton was born Oct. 17, 1920, at Huntington, a daughter of the late John C. Mann and Nora M. Parsons Mann.
Mr. and Mrs. Sutton were married on Aug. 31, 1941.
They are survived by one daughter, Elizabeth R. "Beth" Sutton Norman; three sons, W. Glenn Sutton II, both of Springfield, Va., Samuel W. Sutton, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Christopher H. Sutton, Woodland Park, Colo.; four grandsons, three granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Sutton is also survived by one brother, George E. Sutton, Poland, Ohio.
Mr. Sutton was preceded in death by two brothers, Brady and Harley Sutton; and two sisters, Lucy Fleming and Mildred Bartlett. Mrs. Sutton was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Mark, Clay, Paul and Samuel Mann; and two sisters, Rhoda Ayers and Martha Mann. They were both preceded in death by one grandson, Samuel B. Ponder Sutton.
Mr. Sutton was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corp Veteran. He had also served in the Air Force Reserves. He retired in 1978 after 38 years of services as a civil engineer for the federal government where he had worked in West Virginia, New Mexico and Washington, D.C. After retirement he became a self employed farmer. He was a member of the board of directors of the Doddridge County Farm Services. He was active in the Cattleman's Association and the Doddridge County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed beekeeping and making maple syrup.
Mrs. Sutton was a homemaker. She was active in various garden and women's clubs. She was an avid seamstress. She enjoyed canning and reading.
They were both members of the West Union Baptist Church.
Family will receive friends at Spurgeon Funeral Home, West Union, from 7-9 p.m. Monday and 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Wood officiating. Burial will be at Masonic Memorial Park, West Union.
Donald William Taylor (w/pic)
LORAIN, Ohio -- Donald W. Taylor, 60, a resident of Columbus, Ohio for 35 years, died Thursday, April 6, 2000.
He was born in Grafton.
His wife, Erika, survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Donald Jr. and Stephen; his mother, Helen Taylor; two sisters, Wanda Taylor and Patricia Taylor Wilson; two brothers-in-law, Theodore "Ted" Wilson and Raymond A. Cox Jr.; his father-in-law, Joseph Kadas; sister-in-law, Marie Greenfield; four nieces, Kimberly Jackson Davis, Karla Jackson Leary, Dawn Wingler and Susan DeBruin Taylor; five nephews, Keith Taylor, Ronnie Greenfield, Fred Wingler, Mark Leary and Kristopher Cox; four great-nieces, Shennay Jackson, Jordan, Kali and Kaitlin Taylor; and one great-nephew, Kendell Leary.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Taylor Cox.
Mr. Taylor earned a bachelor of arts degree in education from Fairmont State College, and a master of education from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio.
He retired from the Columbus Public School System after 30 years of service. He held the position of executive director and served as principal at Southmoor, Ridgeview, Mifflin, and was assistant principal at Central High. He was an educator who believed all students can and must succeed.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 9, 2000, in Columbus, Ohio, and Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, Ohio. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio, on Tuesday.
CLARKSBURG -- Charles B. Thompson, 84, of 616 Hart St., Clarksburg, died at 7:18 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2000, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 20, 1915, in Deer Lick, Greene County, Pa., a son of the late Fred W. Thompson and Mary A. Crouse Thompson.
His wife, Stella A. Davis Thompson, preceded him in death Aug. 21, 1995.
Surviving are two sisters, Leota Stout, Maple Wood, Bridgeport, and Ellen Putz, Bridgeport; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Paul Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was a member of the Church of Christ, Bridgeport. He was a member of Meuse Argonne Post 573, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society, North American Fishing Club, and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed the outdoors and was especially a fishing enthusiast.
He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He had retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways and had earlier worked in steel mills in McKeesport, Pa.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and from 4-9 p.m. today. A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday with Evangelist John F. Board presiding. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens where the American Legion and VFW Color Guard will conduct military burial rites.
PHILIPPI -- Denzil L. Lantz, 56, of Route 4, Philippi, Sand Run Road, died at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2000, at his residence, while under hospice care.
He was born Oct. 8, 1943, in Barbour County, a son of the late, Denzil Delbert and Bernice J. Foster Lantz.
His wife, the former Della J. Cozad, whom he married Aug. 14, 1976, survives
Also surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Lisa and husband Robert Shifflett, Junior, and Juanita J. Lantz, at home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Denzil Lee and wife Cheryl Lantz Jr., Moorefield, and Roddy L. and wife Sheila Lantz, Belington; two sisters, Mrs. Vance (Joan) Cross, Belington, and Mrs. Carolyn Bolyard, Philippi; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Johnnie, Thomas and Ralph David.
He was a former heavy equipment operator for Lang Brothers in Bridgeport before becoming disabled. He was a member of Laurel Mountain V.F.W. post No. 410 of Belington. His hobbies were furniture and cabinet making.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 North Walnut St., Philippi, after 3 p.m. today and until 12:30 p.m. Monday at which time his body will be moved to the Silent Grove Church to lie in state from 1-2 p.m., the service hour. The Rev. Bryan Headley will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mount Liberty Cemetery.
