Obituaries for Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000

Adrian M. Fast

GRAFTON -- Adrian M. Fast, 73, of Blueville Drive, Grafton, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Grafton City Hospital.

She was born Oct. 30, 1926, in Grafton, a daughter of Ruth P. Fike Poling, Rosewood Nursing Home, and the late Roy C. Poling.

Her husband, Howard R. Fast, whom she married June 21, 1947, preceded her in death on July 20, 1981.

Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Gerkin and husband, Timothy, Grafton; one son, Rodney Fast and wife, Teresa, Spencer, Ohio; two granddaughters, Holly Gerkin, Martinsburg, and Adrienne Gerkin, Orlando, Fla.; her mother-in-law, Freda Fast, Grafton; one brother, Alfred Poling and wife, Margaret, Grafton.

She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Rodney Brent Fast Jr.

Mrs. Fast was a homemaker and babysitter. She was a member of the American Baptist Women, the Eastern Star, and Naomi Lodge No. 12, Grafton.

She was a Sunday school teacher and attended Beulah Baptist Church.

Friends will be received at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with Pastor Richard McDonald, officiating. Burial will take place in the Bluemont Cemetery. The Naomi Chapter, No. 12, Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mae Blankenship Howes

BUCKHANNON -- Mae Blankenship Howes, 89, of St. Joseph's Hospital Nursing Care Facility, formerly of Adrian, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born Oct. 1, 1910, in Abbott, a daughter of the late B.J. and Luella Russell Martin.

Her first husband, Claude M. Blankenship, preceded her in death in 1980. Her second husband, Clyde Howes, survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Emory (Elaine) Leaseburge, Lewisburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Noel M. and Nancy Blankenship and G. Barry and LeeAnn Blankenship, all of Kent, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Lori Ann Leaseburge, Cincinnati, Ohio, Lewis Leaseburge, Huntington, Lynn and wife, Whitney Leaseburge, Lewisburg, Mrs. Doug (Drema) Mallchok, Woodstock, Ga., Mrs. Chad (Donya) Muse, Virginia Beach, Va., Zac Blankenship, Alexis Blankenship, Kurt Blankenship, all of Kent, Mrs. Matt (Tracy) May, Ohio, and Todd and Teri Blankenship, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Skyler and Cody Mallchok, Woodstock, and Gabrielle and Hunter Blankenship, Kent; three sisters, Mrs. Carl (Lucy) Brady and Ruth Strader, both of Buckhannon, and Hilda Lane, Beckley; several nieces and nephews; four stepchildren, Dayton Howes and wife, Kathryn and Clyde Howes Jr. and wife, Katherine, all of Buckhannon, Delmer Howes and wife, Jean, Ohio, and Loretta Gillum and husband, Tom, Michigan; 15 stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Ryan and Lance Blankenship; two brothers, Orza Martin and Holt Martin; and one sister, Rita Childress.

Mrs. Howes was a retired Upshur County school teacher and a retired grocer in Adrian. She was Methodist.

Beulah Sandy Miller

HOOKSTOWN, Pa. -- Beulah Sandy Miller, 89, formerly of Ambridge, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at The Medical Center, Beaver, following a brief illness.

She was born March 22, 1911, in Clarksburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Cecil and Florence Burrows Cottrill.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Nelson and Patricia Sandy, Boynton Beach, Fla., and Denver and Judith Sandy, Del Ray Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Luella Priore, Coraopolis, Mrs. Robert (Ramona) Mechtly, Pompano Beach, Fla., and Mrs. John (Donna) Sacoulas, Georgetown; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leon and Irene Cottrill, Arizona, and Delbert and Josephine Cottrill, Clarksburg; two sisters, Loretta Wiggins, Niles, Ohio, and Mrs. Ralph (Betty) Wilson, Mineral Ridge, Ohio.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

William M. Tice

BRIDGEPORT -- William M. Tice, 61, of Broadway Avenue, Bridgeport, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000.

He was born Dec. 29, 1938, in Salona, Pa., a son of Ruth Schaeffer Tice, Bellefonte, Pa., and the late Clair Tice.

His wife, Barbara Mong Tice, whom he married June 7, 1959, survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Charles L. Tice, Bridgeport, Douglas W. Tice, Pine Grove Mills, Pa., and Thomas M. Tice, Lost Creek; one daughter, Tina A. Tice, Bridgeport; seven grandchildren, Janetta and Megan Stout, Jenesa Stonko, Jordan, Travis, Tyler and Linsy Tice; three brothers, Franklin Tice, Unionville, Pa., Gene Tice, Bellefonte, and Gerald Tice, Allentown, Pa.; three sisters, Margaret Harter, Smolton, Pa., Susan Gaut, Port Matilda, Pa., and Marsha Robinson, Zion, Pa.

Mr. Tice retired from Allegheny Power, where he worked at the Harrison Power Station in the control room. He was active in the Stonecoal Fishing Club.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. today and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Burnside Funeral Home, Bridgeport, where the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Kenny Kendall, officiating. Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery.
