WESTON -- A vote recount will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday to determine who will be the next mayor of Weston, according to incumbent Mayor Terry Cogar.
Cogar filed Wednesday for a recount after a Monday canvass changed the final count to 473 votes for candidate Jon Tucci and 469 for Cogar, according to Becky Swisher, city clerk.
Swisher said 13 ballots were challenged, changing the leader's total by one. John Williams received 260 votes in the final count.
During the canvassing, the number of ballots was compared to computer tallies and the number of voter signatures. One precinct was hand-counted, as well.
Cogar must post a $100 bond to cover staffing costs of the recount to be held in the upstairs of the City Building, according to Swisher.
If a recount had not been ordered, Tucci would have taken office on July 1.
Cogar said that, to his knowledge, only the mayor's race will be recounted. That means all other candidates were certified at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday.
