R.C.B. Tennis teams win

From Staff Reports

Robert C. Byrd took a pair of wins from Big 10 rival Liberty Thursday in tennis action.

Robert C. Byrd boys top seed, Evan Betler, defeated Daniel Conway, 6-0, while Lorenzo Drummund beat Adam Wolfe, 6-1, and Spencer Caplan defeated Mike Guo, 6-0 to give the Eagles a sweep.

In doubles play, Wolfe and Conway were 6-0 winners over Steven Howard and Caplan.

In girls action, the Eagles' Olivia Hill, Susan Malfregeot and Amanda Hogue each posted singles' wins with 6-0 scores.

Robert C. Byrd's doubles team of Kathleen Gray and Annalise Llaneza won, 6-0.

Prep track

Magnolia's boys and girls teams swept a meet at Ritchie County High School.

The Blue Eagles' boys team held off second-place Ritchie County, 69.5-63, while Tyler Consolidated was next at 46.5.

On the girls side, Magnolia won with a score of 75, followed by Tyler Consolidated (59) and Ritchie County (40).

Ritchie County's Lucinda Huffman won the shot put with a toss of 35-5.5 and the discuss with a throw of 105-4. Missy Spangler won the 3,200 meter run with a time of 12:34.6 for Ritchie County.

WVC baseball

n ALDERSON-BROADDUS 6, Edinboro 4: Greg Vandetta's sacrifice fly scored former Liberty standout Nate Gladwell for the go-ahead run in a win over Edinboro.

Gladwell finished 2-for-2 with a pair of solo home runs, while Philip Pratt homered and Greg Oleksa added a pair of hits for the Battlers (6-14).

Former Liberty standout Josh Matheny (1-0) got the win for A-B, which will be back in action at 1 p.m. today at home against Ohio Valley College.
