WEST UNION -- Doddridge County righted itself from recent struggles Tuesday with a 53-36 victory over Ravenswood.
Doddridge County (10-8) had trouble shaking the Red Devils (7-11) until the closing minutes. Doddridge led by five points with 3:37 remaining in the fourth quarter, but closed with a 14-2 run.
A pair of steals and consecutive baskets by Chayna Johnson and Lisa Davis off the turnovers sparked the run.
"The first half was a real battle," Doddridge County coach Craig Kellar said. "It was a one-point lead at half, and our kids really responded well in the second. We had a five-point game late, and our kids showed good poise and good decision-making to break the game open."
Davis led all scorers with 17 points, while fellow guard Christi Edgell added 10, all in the third quarter. Davis also had three assists and Edgell had three steals.
Ravenswood, which remained in contention nearly throughout and held several first-quarter leads, was led by Rebecca Ferrell with 13 points.
Doddridge County returns to action Thursday at either Braxton County or Clay County in a Little Kanawha Conference tournament opener.
