CLARKSBURG -- Helen V. Alvarez, 86, of Spelter, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, in the United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following a brief illness.
She was born March 31, 1913, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late John G. and Helen J. Musrock Petrigac.
Her husband, Joseph B. Alvarez, preceded her in death Aug. 8, 1984.
Surviving are two daughters, Mona J. Abbott, Spelter, and Mrs. Sam (Dolores) Terango, Nutter Fort; one grandson, Sam "Bink" Terango, Nutter Fort; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Alvarez was a member of the Senior Citizens of Spelter. He was Catholic by faith.
Friends may call at the Davis Funeral Home, 443 West Pike St., Clarksburg, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Father Karl Wohinc officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
CLARKSBURG -- Mrs. Mary Stenger Bastin, 94, of Kurtz Street, Athens, Ohio, formerly of Clarksburg, died at about 7 a.m. Sunday, March 26, 2000, at the Hickory Creek Nursing Facility in Athens.
She was born Aug. 13, 1905, in Gas City, Ind., a daughter of the late Adolph and Mina Scheirman Stenger.
Her husband, Abel F. Bastin, preceded her in death March 10, 1953.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Dorothy Bastin, three grandsons, Todd, Brian and Dustin Bastin, and one granddaughter, Darcy Bastin, all of Athens.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Adolph, Louis, Fred and Ernest Stenger, and one sister, Mrs. Naomi Samuels.
The glass industry brought Mrs. Bastin's family to the Clarksburg area, where she spent most of her life. She was a homemaker and had worked for a number of years for the former Wells and Haymaker Drug Store.
She had been a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Father Cesidio J. Federico as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
CLARKSBURG -- Mrs. Freda Ronemia Casto, 82, of 1600 West Virginia Ave., Clarksburg, where she made her home with her granddaughter, Barbara Berkery, died at 6:12 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2000, in the United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following an extended illness.
She was born May 28, 1917, in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Ethnie Adams and Bertha E. Queen Adams.
Her husband, Francis "Jake" Casto, preceded her in death May 25, 1984.
Surviving are three sons, Ethnie "Jack" and Cecil "Tom" Casto, both of Clarksburg, and Francis "Posty" Post Casto, Charles Town; four daughters, Mrs. Joe (Nancy) Scardina and Mrs. James (Laura L.) Whaley Jr., both of Clarksburg, Mrs. Michael (Karen) McBee, Fairmont, and Mrs. Terry (Patricia) Knight, Alexandria, Va.; one brother, Myron Adams, Cleveland, Ohio; four sisters, Nina Snyder, Parkersburg, Lorena Jones, Linn, Alta Hamman, Stow, Ohio, and Bonnie Carson, Canton, Ohio; 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Casto was a member of the North View United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Kenneth E. Kendall and the Rev. Edsil Bragg presiding. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
CLARKSBURG -- William Ray Cottrill, 65, of 523 Park Ave., Clarksburg, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, in the Heartland Nursing Home following an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 6, 1934, in Mount Clare, a son of the late Jerome F. Cottrill and Martha Jacobs Cottrill.
Surviving are one son, Dennis R. Cottrill and daughter-in-law, Penny Cottrill, Shinnston; one brother, Jeff Cottrill and sister-in-law, Alma Cottrill, East View; one sister, Jean Gory and brother-in-law, Mitchell Gory, Clarksburg; his former wife, Rita Newbrough, Gypsy; two granddaughters, Brittney Nicole and Kristen Jo; one grandson, Scotty Ray; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Jerome Cottrill; one brother, Daniel O. Cottrill; and five sisters.
Mr. Cottrill was a self employed mechanic. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a Protestant.
BELINGTON -- Harvey Beryl Findley Sr., 90, a resident of Belington many years ago and for the past three years a resident of The Cuppett and Weaks Nursing Home, Oakland, Md., died at 2:35 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2000, at the nursing home. He had been in failing health for the past several years.
He was born Aug. 8, 1909, in Lumber, a son of the late Roy and Flora Coberly Findley.
On Oct. 22, 1938, he was united in marriage to the former Ann Homes, who preceded him in death on Oct. 16, 1970.
Surviving are one son, James Franklin Findley, Durbin; five grandchildren, Harvey Lake Findley, Mabie, James Edward Findley, Durbin, Cody and Collin Findley, both of Coalton, and Debra Findley, Elkins; and four great-grandchildren.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having also been preceded in death by one son, Harvey Beryl Findley Jr. and two brothers, Walter and Francis Findley.
Mr. Findley was retired from the Western Maryland Railroad and was Protestant.
Gordon Ewing Forinash Sr.
NUTTER FORT -- Gordon Ewing Forinash Sr., 87, of Stonewood, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Heartland Nursing Home of Clarksburg, following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 24, 1912, in Fayette County, a son of the late Joel Forinash and Siddie Forinash.
His wife, Oma White Forinash, whom he married May 2, 1936, preceded him in death June 23, 1997.
Surviving are six sons, Gordon E. Forinash Jr., Colin L. Forinash and Jerry B. Forinash, all of Clarksburg, Rodney B. Forinash, Bradenton, Fla., and Mark L. Forinash, Jacksonville, Fla., and Gary O. Forinash, Stonewood; five daughters, Mrs. Vance (Dorothy) Westfall and Mrs. Roger (Caroleen) Roe, both of Stonewood, Mrs. Harry (Lois) Bailey, Bridgeport, Mrs. William (Diane) Barnard, Clarksburg, and Mrs. Danny (Lisa) Jenks, Nutter Fort; two brothers, Richard M. Forinash, Ellijay, Ga., and Edward J. Forinash, Clarksburg; one sister, Edna Reed, Jacksonville; and two stepbrothers, Donald Forinash, Wichita, Kan. and Roger Forinash, Cabot, Ark.; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert L. Forinash and two sisters, Edith Strock and Dorothy Adams.
Mr. Forinash was Methodist. He retired as foreman of the machine shop after 41 years of service for the P.P.G. Industries.
Friends may call at the Greathouse-Gemondo Funeral Home, Nutter Fort, from 7-9 p.m. today and from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. D.D. Meighen presiding. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
B. Becky Hawkins
FAIRMONT -- B. Becky Hawkins, 59, of Coleman Avenue, Fairmont, died early Monday morning, March 27, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 5, 1940, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Howard G. and Maxine "Parker" Boyers.
Her husband of 28 years, Richard E. "Dick" Hawkins of Fairmont, whom she married April 8, 1972, survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Carol L. Conrad and Charlene K. Hawkins, both of Fairmont, Brenda M. Christy, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Michelle A. Christy, Morgantown; two grandchildren, Lauren N. Jefferson and Jesse G. Maddox, both of Fairmont; one niece and nephew, Jennifer L. Edwards, Ainsworth, Iowa, and Jason W. Edwards, Austin, Texas.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Laura L. Edwards.
Mrs. Hawkins was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fairmont. She was co-owner and operator of World of Plants and Flowers, Inc. in Fairmont.
She was a member of East Side Business Men's and Women's Association, the Order of the Eagles in Fairmont, and the Moose Lodge No. 9 of Fairmont. She was also a member of the Christian Women's Club, Fairmont, and sponsored the WOP and F Soccer Team.

BUCKHANNON -- Margaret Blanch Kimble, 69, of Tallmansville, died at 11:14 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2000, at her home.
She was born Sept. 27, 1930, in Tallmansville, a daughter of the late John and Bessie Tenney Hamilton.
Her husband, George R. Kimble, whom she married Feb. 22, 1947, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Eva Potts; three sons, Charles and Gary Kimble, all of Buckhannon, and Terry Kimble, Tallmansville; two sisters, ImaJean Kelley, Queens, and Betty Gooden, Alexandria, Va.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, George E. and Thomas W. Kimble, and two sisters, Mary F. Hamilton and Edith Pugh.
Mrs. Kimble was a homemaker.
CLARKSBURG -- Myrtle M. McWhorter, 86, of 1205 South St., Clarksburg, died Saturday, March 26, 2000, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
She was born April 10, 1913, at Jackson Mills, a daughter of the late William Johns and Ethel Butcher Johns.
Her husband, Thurston N. McWhorter, preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Francis L. McWhorter, Clarksburg, and Gary T. McWhorter, Jackson Mills; two brothers, Corder Johns and Herbert Johns; three sisters, Louise Snyder, Weirton, Betty Johns, and Jink Johns; and three grandchildren, Lee McWhorter, Lynne McWhorter and Kenneth McWhorter.
Mrs. McWhorter was a homemaker and certified electrologist for over 56 years. She was a member of the National Electrologist Association, Billy Graham's Evangelistic Association, the National Beautician's Association.
Her name is listed in Who's Who in the National Business Women's Association. She was a member of the Jackson Mills Baptist Church.

KINGWOOD -- Velma Q. Mankins, 94, of Tunnelton, died Monday, March 27, 2000, in Kingwood.
She was born Jan. 24, 1906, in Preston County, a daughter of the late Edwin G. and Icie Pyles Williams.
Her husband, Donald Mankins, preceded her in death in 1980.
Surviving are one son and spouse, John and Sharon Mankins, Tunnelton; two grandchildren and spouse, Paul and Rebecca Mankins, Waukesha, Wis., and Jennifer Mankins, Tunnelton; one great-granddaughter, Holly Mankins; one brother, Paris G. Williams, Fairmont; three sisters and spouses, Delphia and Doyle Frame, and Myrtle and Clarence Bradley, all of Fairmont, and Polly McGinnis, Masontown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn, Gail, and George Williams; two sisters, Mabel Johnson and Lovell Pratt; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Mankins was a member of Shay's Chapel Church and later attended Tunnelton United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker, a good gardener, a faithful member of the Tunnelton Senior Citizen's and a loving mother.
Kathleen Julian Mulholland
ANDERSON, S.C. -- Kathleen Julian Mulholland, 52, of 1210 Rutledge Way, Anderson, formerly of Mulberry Avenue, Clarksburg, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at The Hospice of the Upstate, Anderson.
Born in Clarksburg, WV, she is the daughter of Theresa Cavallaro Julian Morini, Anderson, and the late John D. Julian.
Her husband, Gary Mulholland, survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Sean and wife, Anna Mulholland and Brian Mulholland, her mother-in-law, Mary Mulholland, all of Anderson; one sister, Sarah Schneider, Pittsburgh, Pa.; and two nephews and one niece.
Mrs. Mulholland was a graduate of Notre Dame High School, Clarksburg, attended West Virginia University and graduated from Old Dominion University, Virginia.
She was an employee of Boulevard Baptist Church and earlier served as administrator of GAMAC. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was also known for her love of singing in the Anderson Civic Chorale and painting in oils.
Friends were received from 7-9 p.m. Monday at The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Anderson, with the Father James Dubrouillet officiating. Entombment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family suggests memorials be made to St. Joseph Church Family Center Building Fund or The Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, S.C. 29621.
BUCKHANNON -- Margery A. Smiley, 81, of Route 3, Belington, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at the University of Arizona Hospital, Tucson, Ariz.
She was born April 24, 1918, at Beans Mill, a daughter of the late Clarence and Martha Kirk Bean.
Her husband, Hubert Smiley, whom she married Dec. 21, 1955, survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Paula J. Sparkman, Salem, Ind., Diana L. Kelley, Buckhannon, and Tammy L. Parker, Los Banos, Calif.; two sons, Noel K. Loudin, Seattle, Wash., and Larry K. Loudin, Buckhannon; one stepdaughter, Carolyn Amidon, Phoenix, Ariz.; three stepsons, Hubert J. Smiley, Abeliene, Texas, Marion Smiley, Tucson, Ariz., and James Smiley, Saint David, Ariz.; one sister, Gracie Loudin, Beans Mill; 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Smiley was a nurses aid. She attended the Church of the Brethren in Junior.
SHINNSTON -- Betty Thorne, 77, of Gaffney, S.C., died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at the Brookview Health Care Center, South Carolina.
She was born at Watson, a daughter of the late Fred and Jenny Hamilton Ensiminger.
Her husband, Robert Thorn Sr., survives.
Also surviving are one son, Robert L. Thorn Jr., Florida; two daughters, Janet Davis, Gaffney, and Sharon Harmon, Ravenna, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery. Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, is in charge of arrangements.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Edward Melvin Welch, 89, of 110 Skylyn Dr., Spartanburg, died Sunday, March 26, 2000.
He was born in Anmoore, a son of the late L. Dow and Ella Lang Welch.
His wife, Opal A. Dodd Welch, survives at 110 Skylyn Dr., Spartanburg.
Also surviving are one daughter, Eloise Robinson and husband, Joe, Duncan, S.C.; two sons, Jim Welch and wife, Jo Anne, Moore, S.C., and Bill Welch and wife, Jean, Roswell, Ga.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Frank, Denzil and Homer Welch.
Mr. Welch retired from Union Carbide after 42 years as manager in the Carbon Products Division. He was a member of Mauldin United Methodist Church and the Ray Hopkins Senior Citizen's Center of Mauldin, S.C. He was also a member of the Late Lodge AFM No. 58 of Bridgeport for 50 years and received his 50 year pin in 1998.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
