Since the onset of last week's flooding, the American Red Cross has been on the scene, helping those in need. As the disaster unfolded, Red Cross workers raced to open shelters, provide comfort kits, conduct on-site feeding, supply clean-up kits and coordinate relief activities with other organizations. And even as you read this, Red Cross disaster workers continue to reach out to those in need through door-to-door visits and follow-up interviews.
While this demands tremendous human resources and in-depth organization, it also requires substantial financial resources. Despite what many people think, the American Red Cross is not a government agency. We rely on the generosity of the American people to provide services and deliver programs.
This is why we are asking community members to step forward and support our disaster relief efforts. It is community support that helps keep our disaster relief fund strong and allows the Red Cross to continue providing disaster assistance at absolutely no cost to those in need.
To make a tax-deductible contribution in support of this and other disasters, please call our toll-free number 1-800-HELP-NOW or mail a charitable donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, 165 South Oak St., Clarksburg WV, 26301.
We thank our local community for its ongoing support and for helping the American Red Cross keep its promise to be there whenever and wherever help is needed. Thank you.
