SMITHFIELD -- A Wetzel County man and Harrison County woman were killed Saturday evening in an apparent murder-suicide.

Kimberly D. Mace, 34, of Wallace, and her boyfriend, Jerry Murphy Sr., 51, of Pine Grove, were shot to death in a pickup truck along Route 20 in Wetzel County, a little more than a mile south of Smithfield, Sheriff Tom Shepherd said Sunday.

"It appears to be a domestic situation between a boyfriend and girlfriend," he said.

Police received a call about the shooting at 7:38 p.m. Saturday, Shepherd said.

The incident took place in the cab of Mace's 1997 Ford pickup, he said. A member of her family was in the back of the truck when the shooting occurred.

Investigators still are conducting interviews into the shooting. Shepherd did not release information about who was the shooter.
