BUCKHANNON -- Zula M. Beer, 86, of 47 West Lincoln Street, Buckhannon, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Buckhannon.
She was born Aug. 31, 1913, at Hemlock, a daughter of the late Harley and Ella Reeder Shipman.
Her husband, D. Ray Beer, whom she married Oct. 1932, preceded her in death in 1977.
Surviving are three sons, T. Lynn Beer, Hilo, Hawaii, Roger L. Beer, Buckhannon, and Danny Beer, Mount Clare; two daughters, Sylvia Bunner, Willmington, Del., and Delma McKinney, Victoria, Minn.; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Willard R. Beer; one daughter, Zara Beer; three brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Beer was a homemaker. She attended Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Buckhannon. She was a member of Buckhannon Senior Citizens.
PHILIPPI -- Leone O. Casseday, 95, of Cumberland, Md., formerly of Philippi, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, in the Cumberland Nursing Home.
She was born Nov. 26, 1904, at Flemington, a daughter of the late Gideon and Netti Hubbard Bailey.
Her husband, Ernest L. Casseday, preceded her in death April 6, 1975.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Suanne Casseday, Cumberland, Md.; one granddaughter, Cathleen Maloney and husband, Robert, South Riding, Va.; one niece, Patricia Moore, Lynchburg, Va.; one nephew, Charles Bailey, Saint Helena, Calif.; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Bailey, Lynchburg, Va.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Dane B., Charles W. and John Bailey.
Mrs. Casseday attended Salem College and taught for a number of years in the Taylor County school system.
She was a charter member of the Flemington Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church.
NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- Lee Chicarell, 92, of 4214 San Rafael Ave., New Port Richey, Fla., died Monday, March 17, 2000.
He was born Jan. 3, 1908, in Haywood, the first of 14 children of the late Frank C. Chicarell and Ora Harbert Chicarell, of Clarksburg.
His wife, Dortha Stutler Chicarell, survives.
Also surviving are his wife's daughter, Carol Slone, Hemet, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Douglas (Ruth) Thomas, De Land, Fla., Mrs. Charles (Beatrice) Dent, Mrs. Betty (Chicarell) Wright, and Mrs. Richard (Joy) Payton, all of Clarksburg; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, Paul, Franklin and Carl Chicarell; five sisters, Mrs. Adrian (Genevieve) Emme, Mrs. William (Evelyn) Postlewait, Mrs. Terry (Rosella) Childers, Mrs. James (Esther) Burgess and Mrs. Edwin (Dove) Shuttleworth.
Mr. Chicarell worked along side his father, a well known landscape gardener until the early 1940s, at which time he moved to Michigan, working in a defense plant. Upon his retirement, he moved to Florida.
He was a Christian and worshiped in the Church of Christ. His remains will be placed in the historical family Harbert-Chicarell Cemetery in Lumberport at the family's convenience.
PENNSBORO -- Mary E. Cross, 85, of Salem, formerly of Cabin Run in Doddridge County, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, in Clarksburg.
She was born May 28, 1914, at Toll Gate, a daughter of the late William A. and Virdie A. Lamp Stull.
Her husband, John T. Cross, preceded her in death.
Surviving are one brother, Wayne Stull, Pennsboro; two sisters, Ora Spicer, Lisbon, Ohio, and Esta Whitehair, Parkersburg; nine daughters, Karen Hinton and Doris Gaston, both of Salem, Dessie Burgess, Dover, Ohio, Tressie Monigold, New Port Richey, Fla., Bessie Roth, Dorothy Nitz, Elizabeth Murphy and Imogene Anderson, all of Toronto, Ohio, and Mary Mossor, Kent Ohio; three sons, Robert Cross, Ellenboro, Charles Cross, West Union, and Johnny Cross, Toronto; 30 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Cross was a homemaker and Protestant.
BUCKHANNON -- Julia Ann Lockwood, 40, of 38 West Victoria St., Buckhannon, died Monday April 3, 2000, at Holbrook Nursing Home, Buckhannon.
She was born June 6, 1959, in Charleston, a daughter of Rosaline S. Sponaugle Lockwood, Buckhannon, and the late Raymond S. Lockwood.
Also surviving are one brother, John B. and Nancy Lockwood, Buckhannon; two nephews, J.B. Lockwood, Glenville, and Ryan Lockwood, Buckhannon; two nieces, Jamella Lockwood, Fairmont, and Jennifer Kerns, Buckhannon; and several cousins.
Ms. Lockwood was a secretary for Rosewood Lumber Co. and Methodist.
FARMINGTON -- Lucy Virginia Ogden, 90, of Route 1, Farmington, died at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following a sudden illness.
She was born April 19, 1909, in Little Bingamon, a daughter of the late Neil and Carrie Tetrick Kellar.
Her husband, Garnett Ogden, preceded her in death April 6, 1969.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Susan Ogden, Farmington, Denzil and Joyce Ogden, Barrackville, Ira and Florence Ogden, with whom she made her home; one daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Bradley Layne, Monongah; nine grandchildren, Wendy Cokely, Heather Fisher, Chad, Todd and Cheryl Ogden, Suzette Williams, Ira Ogden Jr., Cathy Layne and Janet VanGilder; six great-grandchildren, Jim, Kayla, Latasha, Hunter Williams, Nickie Cokely, and Austin Fisher; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having also been preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Ogden was a homemaker and a member of the Oakhurst Church of Christ.
PINE GROVE -- Marshall W. Pingley, 77, of Jacksonburg, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at Rada's Personal Care Home of Sistersville.
He was the son of the late Hayden and Bernice C. Bennett Pingley.
His wife, Elnora Morgan Pingley, survives.
Also surviving are three sons, John, Jerry and Perry Pingley, all of Jacksonburg; one sister, Lena Dishon, Florida; and three grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Emory, Stanley, George and Virgil, and four sisters, Genivieve Vandevender, Mary Arbogast, Izetta Pingley and Mona Vandevender.
Mr. Pingley was a member of the Methodist Church at Jacksonburg. He was a retired coal miner and an Army veteran.
CLARKSBURG -- Chet Roupe of West Milford, died Sunday, April 1, 2000, in Braxton County, as the result of an automobile accident.
She was born in Heaters, a daughter of the late O.A. and Georgia E. Prince Gregory.
Her husband, David Roupe, preceded her in death in 1978.
Surviving are one son, Dave Carlin, Lexington, Ky.; two grandchildren, David L. Carlin Jr. and Erin Raines; one great-grandchild, Haley B. Raines; two sisters, Jessie Riffle, Orville, Ohio, and Lona Davis, Dugspur, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one infant daughter, Sheila Carlin; two sons, John and Donald Carlin; three brothers, Bee, Moody and Robert "Bob" Gregory; and four sisters, Doris McCord, Edith Amos, Gladys Dennison and Pearl Dennison.
Mrs. Roupe was a member of the West Milford City Council, the Senior Citizens, and was active with the West Milford Community Center. She was a member of the West Milford United Methodist Church.
Friends may call at the Davis Funeral Home, 433 West Pike St., Clarksburg, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Gary Rapking officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
FAIRMONT -- Ray Junior Rutherford, 79, of Fairmont, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, in his home, after a long illness.
He was born Jan. 24, 1921, in Coffman, a son of the late Cecil and Roxie Merril Rutherford.
His wife, Arlene Golden Rutherford, survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Ray J. Rutherford II and wife, Mary Jo, Fairmont, and John R. Rutherford, Virginia; four daughters, Joy Waldron and husband, Dick, Florida, Greta Rutherford Cowart, and Debra Wright Johnson and husband John, and Rachelle Wright Fetty and husband, Jim; three sisters, Geraldine Reese and husband, Gerald, all of Fairmont, Eloise Fink, Martinsburg, and Loretta Woofer and husband, Bill, Ripley; 11 grandchildren, Anna Lamb, Sue Carney and Brenda Doty, all of Florida, Michael and Matthew Rutherford, Warren J. and Rhonda Cowart, Meredith and Lindsey Johnson, Sara and Garrett Fetty, all of Fairmont; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard Rutherford, Fairmont, and two great-grandchildren, Florida.
Mr. Rutherford was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ where he served as usher, as well as doing repairs to the church. He was employed at Westinghouse Electric as supervisor for 41 years, and was a member of the Westinghouse Veterans Association for 21 years. He served four years in the Eighth Army Air Corps, and was stationed in England during World War II.
He served as scoutmaster at Troop 10, Baptist Temple, during the early '60s. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for his dedication to scouting. During the last 15 years, he was active at compiling information on the family tree of the Rutherfords.

GRAFTON -- Daniel L. Satterfield, 74, of Route 1, Knottsville community, Grafton, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Grafton City Hospital.
He was born Oct. 13, 1925, in Taylor County, a son of the late B. Satterfield and Mattie Huffman Satterfield.
His wife, Elizabeth "June" Arnold Satterfield, survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Larry B. Satterfield and wife, Kimberly, Cumberland, Md., and Charles "Chuck" Satterfield, Clarksburg; two grandsons, Rodney Satterfield, Fairmont, and Brian Satterfield, Ocean City, Md.; three great-grandchildren, Megan, Brandi and Brent Satterfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Mr. Satterfield was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He retired from the CSX Railroad Company in 1987 with 44 years service. He was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
PENNSBORO -- Jesse James Underwood, 58, of Greenwood, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Parkersburg.
He was born July 27, 1941, at Renick Valley in Greenbrier County, a son of Audrey Underwood Scott of Greenwood.
His wife of 32 years, Kate A. Todd Underwood, survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Stacy Lowther, Summers Community, West Union, Tracy Lanctot, Vienna, and Shannon Law, Greenwood; four half brothers, Charles and Chester Scott, Greenwood, James Scott and Clifford Scott Jr., Hanover, Pa.; six grandchildren, Edward, Timothy, Joshua and Andrew Lowther, and Katelyn and Cody Law.
He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Clifford Scott Sr.; and two half brothers, Roger and Jimmy Scott.
Mr. Underwood was retired from the Champion Agate Company of Pennsboro with 19 years of service. He was a member of the Britton Gospel Mission Church of Sunnyside. He enjoyed working on the family farm.
PHILIPPI -- Ruth A. Webb, 90, of Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care, and of Mannington and Clarksburg, before moving to Philippi, died Sunday morning, April 2, 2000, in Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care.
She was born April 22, 1909, at Holly Grove, a daughter of the late James E. and Anna J. Johnston Moore.
Her husband, James Oran Webb, preceded her in death July 2, 1980.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Anna M. and Dayton Lister Jr., Upper Tract; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Leslie "Spider" Webb, Philippi, and Arley and Linda Webb, Dayton, Ohio; two grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Webb attended Broaddus Academy. She was employed as a sales clerk at Baker and Helmick in Mannington, and McCroy's at Mannington and Clarksburg.
She was a member of Golden Rod Rebekah Lodge No. 87 of Mannington. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mannington.
PENNSBORO -- Beulah Marie White, 92, of Pennsboro, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at Parkersburg.
She was born April 24, 1907, near Sutton in Braxton County, a daughter of the late John Thomas and Artie M. Murphy Ocheltree.
Her first husband, Worthy O. Messenger and her second husband, Magnus C. White, both preceded her in death.
Surviving are one brother, Draper Ocheltree, Tanner Creek Road, Newberne; a nephew and caregiver, Robert Ocheltree, Pennsboro; and several other nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Bernard, Cecil and Willie Ocheltree.
Mrs. White managed a creamery in Hyndman, Pa., for the Fairmont Foods Company. She dispatched for the Ritchie County Emergency Squad, Pennsboro division for 16 years.
She was a member of the Pennsboro Senior Citizens and the Mountaintop Weslyan Church at Mountaintop, Md.
