Voters head to polls today for Lost Creek's municipal election

by Paul Darst

STAFF WRITER

LOST CREEK -- Despite a three-way race for mayor, this year's campaign for Lost Creek town offices has been quiet.

But it has been a typical election year, said Kathy Goldsmith, town recorder.

The low-key campaign will come to an end today when voters go to the polls to choose a mayor, five council members and a recorder.

"We have three running for mayor this time," she said.

"The other seats are unopposed."

Incumbent Mayor Edward Corkrean will face former Mayor Eugene Alkire and former Councilman Rondal Lake in the election, she said.

Dottie Swisher, Orvil Lake, Bill Short, Sandra Gaston and Patty Smith, incumbents, all are unopposed for their council seats, she said.

Goldsmith also faces no opposition for her seat, she said.

Goldsmith said she has no expectations about voter turnout for the election, but it is typically low. The town has between 250 and 300 registered voters, she said.

Although the campaign has been quiet, she said the mayor's race could be exciting.

"If voter turnout is low, it could be a close race," she said.

Polls will close at 7:30 p.m. today.
