NUTTER FORT -- Jim R. Currey, 62, of Meadowbrook, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at the United Hospital Center, following an extended illness.
He was born June 15, 1937, in Clarksburg, a son of Eva B. Smith Currey, who survives in Meadowbrook, and the late Kermit R. Currey.
Also surviving are two sisters, Barbara Sabolovich, Lumberport, and Jo Ann Brown, Clarksburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Bates; and one brother, Robert J. Currey.
Mr. Currey was the former owner and operator of the Airport Restaurant in Bridgeport. He was a residential trainer for Res-Care, and was very active as a trainer for the Literacy Volunteers of America. He previously attended Smith Baptist Church, Wallace.
A private memorial service will be held and arrangements are under the care of Greathouse-Gemondo Funeral Home, Nutter Fort.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army or the Literacy Volunteers of America.
PENNSBORO -- Duaine W. Doak, 73, of Little Flint Road, Route 2, West Union, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 7, 1926, in West Union, Doddridge County, a son of the late Arnold W. and Eva Allen Doak.
His wife, Ada E. Underwood Doak, survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth Doak, Weirton, and Larry Doak, New Cumberland; one daughter, Karen Hall, Steubenville, Ohio; one brother, Harold "Mickey" Doak, Boaz; and three grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by an infant brother.
Mr. Doak was retired as an air conditioning technician at Weirton Steel, Weirton, with 30 years of service. He was a member of the New Cumberland Masonic Lodge No. 22, A.F. and A.M. of New Cumberland.
He was a veteran of World War II with service in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Navy.
Arrangements to be privately held at the convenience of the family with the assistance of the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro.
CRAIGSVILLE -- Nora C. Evans, 89, of Craigsville, Nicholas County, formerly of Auburn, Ritchie County, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, in the Summersville Memorial Hospital of a short illness.
She was born April 12, 1911, in Webster County, a daughter of the late William E. and Emma J. Cobb Jones.
Her husband, Sam L. Evans, preceded her in death.
Surviving are one sister, Clora Miller, Haywood, and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lucy Fleming, Elma Cowgar and Hattie Jones; and three brothers, Harry, Ira and Fred Jones.
Mrs. Evans was a member of the First Church of God at Cottle. She was a homemaker.
There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the White Funeral Home, Craigsville, with Pastor Glenn Parsons officiating.
James Robert "Bob" Hefner
WESTON -- James Robert "Bob" Hefner, 48, of Route 4, Weston, died at 8:15 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2000, in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, following an extended illness.
He was born May 7, 1951, a son of the late Roy Hefner and Virginia Grogg Hefner.
His wife, the former Brenda Bleigh, whom he married Oct. 24, 1970, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Wayne (Crystal) Parsons, French Creek; one granddaughter, Brooklyn Parsons, French Creek; two brothers, George and Richard Hefner, both of Weston; three sisters, Brennice Marsh, Weston, and Shirley Watson and Linda Hefner, both of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hefner was previously employed by Foster Feed in Weston. He attended Waldeck United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing.
Friends may call at the Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Ave., Weston, from 4-8 p.m. today. The Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the Waldeck United Methodist Church with the Rev. Russell Furr officiating. The body will lie in state from 10-11 a.m. Monday. Interment will follow in the Waldeck Cemetery.
CLARKSBURG -- Catherine Ann Jermont, 58, of 1203 Briercliff Rd., Bridgeport, and Beckley, died at 7:45 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2000, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
She was born Sept. 11, 1941, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Joseph Jermont and Tressie Cominsky Jermont.
Surviving are her twin brother, Samuel and wife, Carol Jermont, Bridgeport; one sister, Carolyn S. Jermont, Bridgeport; two nieces and husbands, Rhonda and Dr. Ashley Martin, Grafton, Melodie Jermont Graves and Kevin Graves, Wilkinsburg, Pa.; one nephew and wife, Charles W. and Gina Jermont, Barberton, Ohio; one great-niece, Samantha J. Graves; four great-nephews, Charles Jr. and Chad Jermont, Patrick and wife, Julie Martin, Fairmont, Ashley and wife, Dayla Martin, Fayetteville, Ark.; one uncle, Tony Jermont, Akron, Ohio; two aunts, Anna Cominsky and Mary Reynolds, Cleveland, Ohio; and several cousins.
She was also preceded in death by several aunts and uncles.
Miss Jermont was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarksburg. She was a member of the Saint Mary's School of Nursing Alumni Association.
She was a nurse/anesthetist at the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital for 30 years.
She was a graduate of Victory High School, Saint Mary's Hospital School of Nursing and Columbia University, New York.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from 2-9 p.m. Monday.
A vigil service will be conducted at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Monday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Cesidio J. Federico as celebrant. Entombment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum.
CLARKSBURG -- Mrs. Dora I. Lantz, 70, of Quiet Dell, died at 5:30 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2000, in the United Hospital Center, following an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 18, 1929, at Erwin, a daughter of the late James P. Bennett and Esta E. Helmick Bennett.
Her husband, Robert L. Lantz, preceded her in death in 1978.
Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Dorothy) Drake, Morgantown, Mrs. Okey (Helen) Burton, Clarksburg, Mrs. Elettra Morgan, Winchester, Va., and Mrs. George (Evelina) Ashcraft, Quiet Dell; five brothers, James R. Bennett, Waynesburg, Pa., John Bennett, Clarksburg, Paul Bennett, Camden, Clarence Bennett, Clarksburg, Lindy Bennett, Quiet Dell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Harry Bennett; and two sisters, Linda and Sherry Bennett.
Mrs. Lantz was a Protestant by faith.
She worked for Maiden Form for 29 years and the Harrison County Board of Education for 13 years before retiring.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from 2-9 p.m. today, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Mary E. Finegan presiding. Interment will be in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Rocco "Rocky" Tossone Jr.
SHINNSTON -- Rocco "Rocky" Tossone Jr., 58, of Peora, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at the United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following a sudden illness.
He was born May 5, 1941, in Idamay, a son of Josephine Piccolo Tossone, with whom he made his home, and the late Rocco Tossone Sr.
Also surviving are one daughter, Sammy K. Best, Murphy's Bow, Tenn.; three brothers, Pete Tossone, Joetown, Sam Tossone, Fraser, Mich., and Steve Tossone, Fairmont; two sisters, Mrs. William (Mary) Galupi, Riverbank, Calif., Mrs. Darrell (Catherine) Martin, Peora; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Mr. Tossone was a construction worker by trade, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He attended the United Brethren churches.
Friends may call at the Dorsey Funeral Home, Shinnston, after 2 p.m. today, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, with Pastor Ann DeBolt officiating. Interment will be in the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.
CLARKSBURG -- Thomas Andrew Wilt, 59, of Clark Street, Clarksburg, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at his residence, following an extended illness.
He was born April 1, 1941, in Kingwood, a son of the late Alton and Nellie Weaver Wilt.
His wife, Karen S. Riley Wilt, whom he married Nov. 22, 1976, survives.
Also surviving are one son, Michael T. Wilt; one stepson, Allen R. Martin; two daughters, Melisa A. Wilt, all of Clarksburg, and Pam Tomlin, Albright; three grandchildren and one step grandchild; and two sisters, Jane Hardesty, Buckhannon, and Shirley Grimm, Sebring, Ohio.
Mr. Wilt was a construction worker at West Virginia University Hospital and was formerly employed with Lynch Stacey Funeral Home. He owned and operated T & S Ceramics in Grafton. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran.
A service of remembrance will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Davis Funeral Home, Clarksburg, is in charge of arrangements.
