CLARKSBURG -- Kathryn Romano Aiello, 80, of 207 Waldeck St., Clarksburg, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, in Heartland of Clarksburg.
She was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Dola, a daughter of the late Antonio Romano and Teresa Angotti Romano.
Her husband, Joseph Aiello, whom she married June 1, 1939, preceded her in death April 1984.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Mary) Stump, Springfield, Va.; five grandchildren, Jeffery and Stephanie Ely, Whitney Williams, Bradley and Douglas Stump; one great-granddaughter, McKenzie Williams; five brothers, Salvatore Romano, Clarksburg, John Romano, Holly, Mich., Albert Romano, Bridgeport, Frank Romano, Lancaster, Ohio, and A.P. Romano, Charleston; four sisters, Mary Ramella, Huntington, Rose Iaconis, Ventura, Calif., Josephine Loretta, Bridgeport, and Barbara Beto, Clarksburg; and one son-in-law, Ed Ely, Richmond, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Ely; and one brother, Joseph Romano.
Mrs. Aiello was Catholic.
She had been employed by the Harrison County Board of Education, and was a cook at Broadway and Norwood elementary schools.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from 3-9 p.m. today. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Stonewood, with the Rev. Father Edward Sabo, T O R as celebrant. A vigil service will be conducted in the funeral home at 6 p.m. today. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
IRELAND -- Drexell Ralph Bowyer, 57, of Route 1, Crawford, died Friday, May 12, 2000, due to injuries received in a car accident.
He was born Aug. 9, 1942, at Roanoke, a son of the late William R. and Mabel R. Smith Bowyer.
Surviving are three sisters, Ada L. Depoy, Allen, Ky., Helen J. Metzgar, Crawford, and Maxine L. Metzner, Helvetia; one sister-in-law, Darlene Mealey Bowyer, Crawford; nine nieces and nephews, Edwin and Robert Bowyer, Evelyn Riffle, Yvette Stephens, Michelle Smith, Blaine Depoy, Janice Collins, William and Jennifer Metzgar; and five great-nieces and nephews, Andrew, Brittney and Allison Bowyer, Amber Riffle and Hannah Grace Depoy.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, William Hartzel Bowyer on Feb. 13, 2000.
Mr. Bowyer was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, the West Virginia Forestry Association and the Fraternal Order of Modern Woodsman of America Camp No. 10321.
He was co-owner of D&H Bowyer Lumber.
The viewing will be from 5-9 p.m. today at Alkire Funeral Home, Ireland. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Kevin Bender officiating. Interment will be in Wimer Cemetery.
Mr. William K. 'Bill' Davis
MARIETTA, Ohio -- William K. "Bill" Davis, 38, of Marietta, formerly of Bridgeport, died Friday, May 12, 2000, in Mount Sterling, Ky., after a sudden illness.
Surviving are one daughter, April E. Davis; one son, J. Matthew Davis, both of Winfield; one brother, Robert Davis; and his maternal grandmother, Thelma Collins, both of Jacksonville, Fla.
Mr. Davis was formerly the commissioner of corrections for the state of West Virginia (1993-1999). He was a 1980 graduate of Bridgeport High School. He was a 1993 graduate of Fairmont State College, where he majored in psychology and minored in criminal justice. He was a military policeman in the Army Reserves.
Friends may call at the Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, from 6-9 p.m. today. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Winfield Cemetery, Winfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the Domestic Violence Center, P.O. Box 403, Huntington, WV 25708.
PHILIPPI -- Estella R. Fox, 97, of Brownton, was dead on arrival at the Broaddus Hospital early Friday morning, May 12, 2000.
She was born March 31, 1903, at West Union, a daughter of the late Thomas B. George and Anna M. Swiger George.
Her husband, Herbert F. Fox, whom she married July 3, 1927, preceded her in death Dec. 13, 1972.
Surviving are one daughter, Maxine Schimansky, Brownton; two sons, Stelman Fox, Brownton, and Dempsey Fox, Painesville, Ohio; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Flossie Reed and Orpha Delauder; and five brothers, Arnie B. George Sr., Amos S., Connie, Rhoda and Eddie George.
Mrs. Fox was a homemaker and was a member of the Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
Private funeral services were held at the Stemple and Forman Funeral Home, Philippi, on Saturday, May 13, 2000, with the Rev. James C. Steele officiating. Interment followed in the Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
GRAFTON -- Frank Humphrey, 82, of Lincoln Street, Grafton, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, in the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born May 7, 1918, in Grafton, a son of the late John Roscoe and Goldie I. Carroll Humphrey.
His wife, Shirel L. "Tiny" Humphrey, preceded him in death June 27, 1989.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Frank "Duke" and Kandie Humphrey, Grafton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Jim (Sandra K.) Cheshire, and Mrs. Gary (Cheryl) "Sherry" Boylen, all of Grafton; seven grandchildren, Nikki, Joseph and Seth Humphrey, Brian F., and James Russell, Frank Cheshire, Shawnette L. Poston and Jason C. Pitman; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey L. Cheshire, David E. Poston and Breahna N. Poston; three step great-grandchildren, Laken and Jake Boeckel, and Taylor Underwood; three sisters, Mildred Swisher and Thelma Keefover, both of Grafton, and Ruth Olmstead, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
Mr. Humphrey was a retired pipefitter and welder working out of Morgantown Union Local 152. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
He also was a member of the Grafton Masonic Lodge No. 15 A.F. and A.M., a 32 degree Scottish rite mason, and Nemesis Shrine Temple of Parkersburg. To many area Grafton residents he was known as "Shooter".
Family and friends may call at the Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow in the West Virginia National Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded.
WESTON -- Carol Elizabeth Queen, 57, of 783 Lynn Ave., Weston, died at 3:50 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2000, in the United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 24, 1942, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Leslie Boram and Martha Rastle Boram.
Her husband, Richard Queen, preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, Robert "Bob" Elliott, Scott Queen, both of Jane Lew, and Michael Queen, Summersville; one granddaughter, Shayla S. Queen; two step grandsons, Gary and Michael Cogar; two step granddaughters, Heather Cogar and Marina Mace, all of Jane Lew; and one step great-grandson, Gary Cogar.
Mrs. Queen was a former employee of the Weston State Hospital with 18 years of service. She had worked for the past eight years with the Lewis County Department of Health.
She was a member of the Weston Moose Lodge and the Weston F.O.E. No. 2481. She enjoyed camping and traveling. She was a Baptist by faith.
Friends may call at the Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Ave., Weston, from 5-8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Robert A. Heater officiating. Interment will follow in the Waldeck Cemetery at Waldeck.
CLARKSBURG -- James Robert Southern, 86, of Ridgeway Drive, Bridgeport, died at 10:37 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2000, in a local nursing home following an extended illness.
He was born April 10, 1914, in Shinnston, a son of the late James A. and Lettie M. Seckman Southern.
His wife, Helen V. Coffman Southern, whom he married Sept. 12, 1941, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Judy Ramey, Annandale, Va.; one grandson, Scott Ramey, Boston, Mass.; one brother, Walter "Jack" Southern, Lumberport; one sister, Ruth Atha, Bridgeport; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, Perry and William Southern; and one sister, Catherine Kulikowsky.
Mr. Southern was a member of the Coon's Run Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army for three-and-a-half years.
He was a member of the Meuse Argonne Post No. 573 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Southern retired as an inspection supervisor at the Union Carbide Corporation, carbon products division, retiring in 1978 with over 30 years of service.
Family and friends may call at the Davis Funeral Home, 443 West Pike St., Clarksburg, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded by the VFW Post No. 573 and American Legion Post 13.
CLARKSBURG -- Ralph E. Tutwiler, 80, of 215 Ryder Ave., Clarksburg, died at 1:40 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2000, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
He was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Clarksburg, a son of the late George Tutwiler and Emma C. Starkey Tutwiler.
His wife, Peggy S. Moler Tutwiler, whom he married July 23, 1941, survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Vernon (Peggy Tutwiler) Smith, Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. James H. (Cheryl Tutwiler) Taylor, Shinnston; six grandchildren, Douglas Smith, Macon Hillebrand, Zachery Taylor, Christopher Taylor, Kimberly and Carson Tutwiler; three great-grandchildren, Katie Smith, Ben Hillebrand and Carrie Hillebrand; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Ralph H. "Tut" Tutwiler; and two brothers, Norval and George Tutwiler.
Mr. Tutwiler was a member of the Christ Church United Methodist, Adamston. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran.
He was an optician and was associated with the American Optical Company for 25 years. He retired in 1989 from the former Yates and Frush Company in Clarksburg.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. today. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Bridgeport Cemetery with the Rev. Stephen Rector presiding.
