As president of the West Virginia Judicial Association, I urge the public to vote for the Unified Family Court Amendment, which will appear on the ballot this November. Under the proposed amendment, family matters will be handled entirely by family courts headed by judges specially trained to manage the sensitive internal workings of our families.
The Unified Family Court Amendment eliminates delay and provides for streamlined handling of domestic problems within a system of family courts. All of the domestic issues arising within a single family will be supervised by a single family court judge who will preside over cases and issue final judgments enforceable by the parties.
Importantly, I can see no increase in costs beyond what we currently pay to maintain our family law master system, nor do I see a social or economic downside to West Virginians.
Therefore, I encourage all voters to approve this proposed amendment to the West Virginia Constitution, and I ask each of you to tell your friends and neighbors that they, too, can help their families and their state of West Virginia by voting for the Unified Family Court Amendment.
