Mohigans' Wigal named AP state player of the week

by John Raby

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

CHARLESTON -- Morgantown's Mark Wigal and his backfield bunch put a hurting on John Marshall.

Wigal was named The Associated Press state high school player of the week Monday after rushing for 259 yards and five touchdowns in a 62-21 win.

Wigal, who had 21 carries, scored on runs of 4, 56, 49, 8 and 6 yards.

"It felt really good to be able to get out and run tonight," Wigal said. "It did feel a little like old times again. I just followed the big guys in front of me and got as many yards as I could."

Morgantown erupted for 569 yards on the ground.

"It reminded me of my sophomore year, when Chris Yura was running all over the place," said Morgantown offensive lineman Matt Ameri.

Morgantown also got big games from Alex Lake, who rushed for 118 yards and two TDs, and Troy Spillman, who had 103 yards and one score.

Morgantown (9-0) will go for a perfect regular season Friday at Mountaineer Field against University.
