Pendleton holds off Union

MOUNT STORM -- Aaron Smith scored 17 points, including four 3-pointers, and Casey Yokum added 15 as Pendleton County built leads in the first and third quarters and held off Union, 64-57, Friday night.

Pendleton County (9-5, 7-0 Potomac Valley Conference) outscored Union 13-8 in the first quarter, and after being outscored by two points in the second, gained a 17-11 advantage in the third quarter.

Girls basketball

n GILMER COUNTY 62, Roane County 44: Amy Riddle scored a game-high 17 points and Denae Dobbins added 11 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks as Gilmer County won a key Little Kanawha Conference game Friday night.

Gilmer County (12-5, 10-4) gained a commanding 19-7 first-quarter lead and following a 16-11 third-quarter advantage, was never threatened.

Miranda Riddle scored 10 points for Gilmer County, while Jodi Cunningham finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Shawna Goodwin led Roane County (8-7, 7-3) with 15 points.
