WEST UNION -- The Wirt County Tigers downed Doddridge County 7-3 on Thursday behind an excellent pitching effort from Shawn Jones and Eric Baileys.
The duo held the Bulldogs to five hits. The Wirt County offense, meanwhile, produced nine hits, rallying from a 2-0 second inning deficit.
Lucas Philips singled and stole a base to lead off the second. He was driven in on a Darren Swisher single. Swisher later scored on a double steal.
Wirt County knotted the game a 3-3 in the fifth inning. With two runners on, Aaron Edwards singled and an error brought in both runners.
Wirt County blew the game open with a four-run seventh inning on two hits and three Doddridge County errors.
Wirt County (2-0) was led by Pat Wolfe, who was 3-for-4 with a double and Aaron Edwards, who was 2-for-3.
In its season opener, Doddridge County was led by Swisher, who was 2-for-3 with a double.
"We threw the ball around, and we didn't make the easy plays that we had," Doddridge county coach Dave Mires said.
