AMHERST, Ohio -- E. Jane Woofter Butcher, 70, of Amherst, passed away Monday afternoon March 26, 2001, at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a three-year illness.
She was born Feb. 28, 1931, in Troy, W.Va., a daughter of the late Ernest and Hester Lowther Woofter.
Her husband of 30 years, Jack Butcher Jr., preceded her in death in 1996.
Surviving are two sons, Jack Butcher Jr. and Sean Butcher, both of Amherst; three daughters, Kathy Whetzel, Amherst, Candy Butcher, Cleveland, and Melody Charlton, Elyria; six grandchildren, and two sisters, Virginia Cross, North Canton, and Ernestine Mathis, Monongahela, Pa.
She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Alicia Nicole; one grandson, Nicholas Jack; two brothers, Otis and Virgil Woofter, and one sister, Margaret Chatt.
Mrs. Butcher graduated from Clariton High School, Pennsylvania. She then moved to Clarksburg, W.Va., where she worked for a number of years before moving to Amherst in 1969.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lorain, since 1971, where she held various positions. She was a member of the Ladies Missions Group.
She worked for Allied Roofing & Construction in Elyria as a receptionist from 1993-1997. Prior to this she worked for Bridals by Ester for four years. She was a seamstress at Dalton Garmet Industries, Lorain, for 13 years. While there, she was the union chairperson for ILGWU for 11 of those years. Previously she worked for Westinghouse Corp. in Fairmont, W.Va., for 10 years and Maidenform Co. in Clarksburg for four years.
She loved her family, her church, traveling, square dancing, jigsaw and wordfind puzzles. Her main hobby was housekeeping, as evidenced by her immaculate home.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 1510 Cooper Foster Park Road, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
WESTON -- Norma Jean Davis, 72, of 281 Cottage Ave., Weston, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2001, in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston.
She was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Glenville, a daughter of the late Lewis A. Woofter and Dolly O. Hall Woofter.
Her husband, Charles Franklin Davis, whom she married in October 1947, preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1996.
Surviving are two daughters, Jacqueline Miller, Shinnston, and Donna Jean Bee, Parkersburg; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one infant grandson, Robert F. Henline.
Mrs. Davis was a Presbyterian by faith. She was employed by Ashley's Factory Outlet Store, Weston, with 191Ú2 years service.
Private family visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. today. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today from the Weston Masonic Cemetery with the Rev. Robert A. Heater officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery.

WESTON -- John David Eckes, 52, of Route 2, Roanoke, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at his residence.
He was born May 8, 1949, in Weston, a son of the late John O. Eckes and Helen Ruth Powers Eckes.
His wife, the former Barbara Joan Fisher, whom he married July 3, 1981, survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John Thomas (Sherry Joan) McCarty, Crawford, and Jessica Denise Eckes, Roanoke; one son, Timothy Brian Eckes, Roanoke; two grandsons, Zachary Thomas McCarty and Joshua Coral McCarty, both of Crawford; one brother, Ray Eckes, Roanoke, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Eckes was owner and operator of D&D Trucking. He was formerly employed by Richard O. Harper Trucking, Weston. He was an auctioneer and owned Dave's Auction.
He was a very active member of Twin Lakes Southern Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Brotherhood Group. He served with the U.S. Army. He was an active member of community services. Being kindhearted, he was willing to help anyone. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Friends may call at the Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Ave., Weston, from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Chris Cosner and the Rev. Charles Sisk officiating. Interment will follow in the Smith Cemetery.
SHINNSTON -- Retired Lieutenant James P. Hedrick, 48, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Lumberport, died at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at San Diego Hospice, San Diego, following an extended illness.
He was born March 27, 1953, in Fairmont, a son of Jimmie W. and Maxine E. Carroll Hedrick of Lumberport.
Also surviving are four brothers, Larry Hedrick, Huntington, Garry Hedrick, Shinnston, David Hedrick, Lumberport, and Rick Hedrick, Clarksburg; two sisters, Mrs. Daniel (Debbie) Stout, Lumberport, and Mrs. Jeffrey (Linda Hedrick Arcuri) Simmons, Lumberport; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his loving pet, Tobias.
Lt. Hedrick retired from the U.S. Navy on Feb. 28, 1990. He was a veteran of the Falkland War. He was a 1971 graduate of Lumberport High School and went on to graduate from Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes, Ill., then the Hospital Corps School. In 1973 he graduated from Operating Room Tech School at Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
In 1979 he graduated from Norfolk General Hospital, School of Professional Nursing, Old Dominion University.
He was an operating room nurse for 10 years and was assistant head of materials management at Long Beach, Calif. In 1981 he was a graduate with Distinction of the Officer Indoctrination School, New Port, R.I., and promoted rank from ensign to lieutenant junior grade to lieutenant.
In 1998 he was a white starline sailor in the James Cameron Film "Titanic." He graduated from Mesa College in 1999 with a degree in American sign language-interpreting. He was a member of the Lumberport United Methodist Church and attended the Mission Hills United Methodist Church, San Diego, Calif.
He loved the life that God had given him and deeply cherished and loved his family. He thanked God every day for each sunrise and sunset. He enjoyed singing and playing his favorite old time Gospel music on his piano that he learned as a child while growing up in the Haywood United Methodist Church and later as a teen-ager in the Lumberport United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 2-9 p.m. Sunday. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Lumberport United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Kope officiating. Interment will follow at the Lions Club Cemetery, Lumberport.
SHINNSTON -- John W. Keener, 82, of Locust Avenue, Fairmont, formerly of Shinnston, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born March 13, 1919, at Lumberport, a son of the late Lewis Lee and Myrtle Alice Dodd Keener.
His wife, Dora L. Bush Keener, preceded him in death.
Surviving are four stepsons, Charles George, Massillon, Ohio, Butch George, Shawondasse, Ohio, Junior George and Dennis George, both of Willoughby, Ohio; four stepdaughters, Regina Matheny, Wyatt, Rita Madsen, Chardon, Ohio, Cathy Moore, Fairmont, and Becky Davenport, Williamston, N.C.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Tom Keener, Bricksville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two stepdaughters, six brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Keener was a coal miner. He retired from Consolidation Coal Co. with over 30 years service. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, the American Legion Post No. 31, Shinnston, and the Meuse Argonne Post No. 573, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Clarksburg.
He was a Baptist by faith.
Friends may call at the Dorsey Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday with Pastor John Pigott officiating. Interment will be in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown. Full military graveside rites will be conducted.
BROOKSVILLE, Fla. -- Roy B. Lamb, 66, of Brooksville, Camper's Holiday, passed away Monday, March 26, 2001, at Spring Hill Regional Hospital.
He was born in Clarksburg, W.Va.
His wife, Mildred, survives in Brooksville.
Also surviving are one daughter, Sharon Taylor, St. Pete; three sisters, Virginia Morgan and Margaret Finchum, both of Clarksburg, and Helen Athey, Columbus, Ohio; two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.
Mr. Lamb was a Lutheran by faith and attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Masaryktown. He owned and operated a NAPA Store in Hinton, W.Va., for 13 years.
SALEM -- Gladys Davis Norris, 91, of Eagle Pointe, Parkersburg, formerly of Lakeview Estates, Parkersburg, and Salem, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Eagle Pointe.
She was born in Salem, a daughter of the late Arthur W. and Maude Williams Davis.
Surviving are two nephews, Arthur L. Reed and wife, Yolanda, Dallas, Texas, and Jeffrey B. Reed and wife, Carrie, Vienna; two great-nephews, Jason R. Reed and Daniel R. Reed, both of Dallas, Texas; one great-niece, Jennifer L. Reed, Vienna, and one brother-in-law, Denver G. Reed, Parkersburg.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Frankie M. Davis and Lenore D. Reed.
Ms. Norris was a graduate of Salem High School, Salem College, and earned a master's degree in education from West Virginia University. She attended and earned additional credits at George Peabody College for Teachers and also Ohio State University.
She retired after 25 years of service from the Urbana, Ohio, city school system as elementary school supervisor. She became a member of the former United Brethren Church, Salem, in 1925, which is now the West Salem United Methodist Church.
She was a past member of the board of directors of the Salem and Greenbrier Seventh Day Baptist Cemetery associations. She was a supporter of Fort New Salem and was a member of Colonel William Lowther Chapter N.F.D.A.R.
BRIDGEPORT -- J. Harvey Tucker of Sun City West, Ariz., died Monday, March 5, 2001, following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 20, 1918, the fifth child of the late James Waitman and Helen M. Tucker. The family resided at Route 50.
His wife, Ruth Ford, whom he married Sept. 15, 1944, survives.
Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, James Jeffrey and Jo Wendy Tucker, Fairfield, Colo., and one sister, Helen E. McKee, Bridgeport.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, M. Jennings and Mason E. Tucker, and two sisters, Beatrice V. Shroyer and S. Bernice Lathram.
Mr. Tucker graduated from Grafton High School and West Virginia Business College. He started work in 1938 for Lowndes Bank and remained with the bank for 45 years, retiring in 1983 at which time he moved to Arizona.
He served in World War II as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was active in the Lions Club and other organizations. He was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main St., Bridgeport, from 10-11 a.m. today. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, with the Rev. Steven Dorsey conducting the service.
