Richard E. Bayne

BRIDGEPORT -- Richard E. Bayne, 80, of Hall Street, Bridgeport, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.

He was born Jan. 26, 1921, in Asheville, N.C., a son of the late Patrick and Katie Elliot Bayne.

His wife, Alice Steele Bayne, survives.

Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Lee Stalnaker, Bridgeport; one sister and brother-in-law, Marian and Charles Setchel, Jacksonville, Ore.; and two grandchildren, Amy Stalnaker, Ocala, Fla., and Nathan Stalnaker, Bridgeport.

Mr. Bayne retired as a production manager for Consolidated Gas Supply Corp. He was a member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church and United Methodist Men. He was a former board member and volunteer with the American Red Cross.

He enjoyed woodworking and was a craftsman of fine furniture. He was a veteran, serving in the Mediterranean Theater during World War II in the U.S. Navy.

Friends will be received at the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main St., Bridgeport, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bridgeport United Methodist Church, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport. The funeral service will be held at the church at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Steven E. Dorsey officiating. Interment will follow at the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Bridgeport United Methodist Church Permanent Fund.

CLARKSBURG -- Danton Leon Caussin, 105, of 2127 Goff Ave., Clarksburg, died at 1:33 a.m. Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born July 7, 1895, in Arnold, Pa., a son of the late Julian Firmin Caussin and Maria Augustine Boulanger Caussin.

His beloved wife, Mary Margaret Dixon Caussin, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his only daughter, Mary Kathryne Wiedebusch, Morgantown; four grandchildren, Carole Jean Wiedebusch, Charles Edward Wiedebusch II and spouse, Heidi Wiedebusch, Morgantown; Jeanne Anne Caussin, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Danton Lee and spouse, Kristina Caussin, Pompano, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Jacob David Caussin and Dennet Gordon Caussin; one daughter-in-law, Judith Anne Caussin, Florida; one nephew, Clarence B. Caussin, and one niece, Olga S. Hardman, both of Clarksburg; great-nieces and nephews, Alberta Malfregeot Allen, Mary Ann Malfregeot Maldonado, Claire Malfregeot Buchy, Della Sue Sheline, Janet Carter, Charlotte Devin, Carolinda Cutlip, Michael Hardman, Mark Hardman, John D. Hardman and August Malfregeot.

He was also preceded in death by two sons, Eugene Dixon Caussin and Danton Leon Caussin Jr. in infancy.

Mr. Caussin was a lifelong resident of Clarksburg. His family had been pioneers in the glass industry. His father was in the glass business in France, and moved to the U.S. to get involved in the booming market here. He was associated with the early LaFayette Cooperative Glass Plant which was later purchased by Eugene Rolland, who rebuilt the plant and opened it as the Rolland Glass Co. He was associated with the company for 43 years and retired in 1963 at the age of 69.

He served in the military and was one of the oldest surviving veterans in West Virginia from World War I. He maintained his connection with other World War I veterans after retirement and volunteered at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg for more than 20 years.

He received the "Distinguished West Virginian" award from the Office of Governor Arch A. Moore in 1987. In June 2000, he was an honored guest at the first International Conference on Rural Aging, Charleston. He was one of three West Virginia centenarians honored at that time.

He was a most loyal and avid fan of Mountaineer basketball and football. He saw his first West Virginia University football game in 1917.

Friends may call at the Davis Funeral Home, Clarksburg, from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Stacey Groscup officiating. Graveside military services will immediately follow the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Clarksburg.

Because of his family's dedication to education and his interest in young people, the family requests that contributions be made in his name to the Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund of the West Virginia University Alumni Association or contributions may also be made to the WVU Foundation, Health Sciences- Orthopedic Program, or the WVU Orchesis Dance Program.

Cathy Ann 'Catherine' Counts

CLARKSBURG -- Cathy Ann "Catherine" Counts, 46, of 148 Ocella Ave., Clarksburg, died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following a brief illness.

She was born Oct. 22, 1954, in Hysl, Va., a daughter of the late Wilson M. Counts.

Her former husbands, Charles Hansen and Mark "Rocky" Counts, both survive.

Also surviving are her stepmother, Joan Daugherty Counts, Clarksburg; one son, Charles W. Counts, Reynoldsville; two daughters, Candy Sigley and Connie Olivito, both of Clarksburg; her companion, Ike Jackson; her best friend, Mary Chiero; eight grandchildren, Megan Irene, Catherine Ashley and Dillon Ray Wilson Counts, Macayle and Austin Sigley and Shallsa, Jessica and Olivia Olivito; three brothers, William Counts, Bristol, Pa., Mark G. Counts and Scott M. Counts, both of Clarksburg; one sister, Dorothy Kay White, Trenton, N.J.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was a homemaker.

Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Dewain Herrod presiding. Interment will be in Salem International Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Lauraine B. Doty

PARKERSBURG -- Lauraine B. Doty, 74, of Vienna, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Parkersburg.

She was born Dec. 27, 1926, at Rutland, Vt., a daughter of the late Dwight and Linnie Heath Perry.

Her husband, Raymond Doty, preceded her in death.

Surviving are three sons, Clifford Doty, West Rutland, Vt., Cedric Doty, Danby, Vt., and Conrad Doty, Vienna; four daughters, Cynthia Lawrence, Twin Flags, N.Y., Christine Farrell, Walker, Charyle Kaufmann, High Point, N.C., and Carol Murphy, Jane Lew; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara and Geraldine Perry.

Mrs. Doty had formerly been employed as a nurse's aide at Pine View Continuous Care of Harrisville. She was a member of the Boaz Baptist Church, Boaz, Wood County.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the McCullough Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with burial in the Mount Harmony Masonic Cemetery, Pennsboro.

John W. Keener

SHINNSTON -- John W. Keener, 82, of Locust Avenue, Fairmont, formerly of Shinnston, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the residence of his daughter, following an extended illness.

He was born March 13, 1919, at Lumberport, a son of the late Lewis Lee and Myrtle Alice Dodd Keener.

His wife, Dora L. Bush Keener, preceded him in death.

Surviving are four stepsons, Charles George, Massillon, Ohio, Butch George, Shawondasse, Ohio, Junior George and Dennis George, both of Willoughby, Ohio; four stepdaughters, Regina Matheny, Wyatt, Reta Madsen, Chardon, Ohio, Cathy Moore, with whom he made his home, Fairmont, and Becky Davenport, Williamston, N.C.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Tom Keener, Bricksville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two stepdaughters, six brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Keener was a coal miner. He retired from Consolidation Coal Co. with over 30 years service. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, the American Legion Post No. 31, Shinnston, and the Meuse Argonne Post No. 573, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Clarksburg.

He was a Baptist by faith.

Friends may call at the Dorsey Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today with Pastor John Pigott officiating. Interment will be in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown. Full military graveside rites will be conducted.

Betty J. Mullenax

SHINNSTON -- Betty J. Mullenax, 67, of Owings community, died at 5:43 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001, at the United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following an extended illness.

She was born Nov. 1, 1933, at Enterprise, a daughter of the late Riley Festus and Georgia Mae McDougal Fleming.

Her husband, Billie Lee Mullenax, preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1963.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Bill (Sheila) Tichenor, Shinnston, Mrs. Bill (Shelly) Davisson, Lumberport, and Mrs. John (Missy) Arnold, Owings; one son, Jeff "Pud" Mullenax, Owings; two sisters, Doris Skelley, Paden City, Norma Lee Garrett, Clarksburg; two brothers, Bill Fleming, Owings, and Gerald Wright, Clarksburg; seven grandchildren, Bill and Christie Tichenor, Whitney and Alex Davisson, Miranda Harris, Adam Arnold and Jeffrey Mullenax; one great-grandson, Ryan Tichenor; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Mullenax was a member of the Owings Community Church, the Ladies Auxiliary, Clarksburg No. 2353, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Women of the Moose, Lodge 699 in Shinnston. She was a very caring, loving person, with a special love and devotion for all of her grandchildren.

Austin Burrough and Pastors Matt Morrison and Robert Shingleton officiating. Interment will be in the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.

Ann E. Pavichie

CLARKSBURG -- Ann E. Pavichie, 91, of Sunbridge Care Center, Salem, formerly of Riverbend Apartments, Clarksburg, died at 3 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the center.

She was born March 16, 1910, in Independence, a daughter of the late Sherman and Mary Shrader Foltz.

Her first husband, Charles Ahlers, and her second husband, Nicholas Pavichie, both preceded her in death.

Surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Mary F. and William May, Clarksburg; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Sherman and Doris Foltz, Baltimore, James B. and Wilda Foltz, Fairmont, and Henry F. Foltz, Baltimore; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Vonetta, Martha, Katherine and Mildred; and two brothers, infant Philip Foltz and Paul E. Foltz.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Parrish Women, Sisters of St. Joseph Associates and the Clarksburg Women's Club.

She was a volunteer for the Mustard Seed for several years. She was a homemaker.

Catholic burial rites will be conducted by Rev. Father Timothy Grassi at 10:30 a.m. today in the McGlumphy Church Chapel. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Hayward Kemp Smith

IRELAND -- Hayward Kemp Smith, 81, of Route 4, Buckhannon, Childers Run community, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins.

He was born Oct. 31, 1919, in Crawford, Lewis County, a son of the late Wirt G. Smith and Violet McCray Smith.

His wife, Wanda Priest Smith, whom he married Oct. 7, 1941, preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 2000.

Surviving are one son, Kenneth L. Smith, Clendenin; one daughter, Donna Rae Bell, Stafford, Va.; five grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Jessica Keel, Allyson Keel Speet, William Keel and Justin Smith; two great-grandchildren, Aislinn Speet and Meredith Speet; one brother, William Smith, Bealeton, Va.; four sisters, Mrs. Warren (Elsie) Steerman, Harrington, Del., Madeline Eckes, Buckhannon, Mrs. Carl (Jean) Lowther, Ireland, and Virginia Ellis, New Castle, Del.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one brother Warren Gayle Smith; and one sister, Mary Lee Collins.

Mr. Smith retired as a chief petty officer after 20 years of service with the U.S. Navy. He served in World War II and the Korean conflict. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.

He retired after 15 years with the U.S. Postal Service.

Robert E. Vincent

PARKERSBURG -- Robert E. Vincent, 82, of Parkersburg, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2001, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 1, 1919, in Harrison County, a son of the late Robert R. Vincent and Bessie Monroe Miller.

His wife of 54 years, Martha Virginia Rogers Vincent, survives.

Also surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Sara and Daniel Jacques, Parkersburg, and Connie and Harold Phillips, Washington; one son, Timothy W. Vincent, Parkersburg; two sisters, Violet Bunner, Parkersburg, and Elva Koch, Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Paul Vincent, Clarksburg; six grandchildren, Michelle Routhier, Columbia, Md., Paula Warfield, Versailles, Ky., Chad Phillips, Charleston, S.C., Julie Clark, Fayetteville, N.C., Amanda and Alex Vincent, Parkersburg; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters and one half brother.

Mr. Vincent was a retired toll collector of the Memorial Bridge, Parkersburg. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps, having served in World War II.

He was a member of the 32nd Degree Mason, Masonic Lodge No. 3 Nemesis Shrine, American Legion, lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Gihon Methodist Church.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and until 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike Street, south Parkersburg. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph N. Busch of South Parkersburg Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Sunset Memory Gardens with military rites by American Legion Post No. 15, Parkersburg, and Masonic graveside rites by Lodge No. 3 Mount Olivet A.F. and A.M. A white dove memorial release will follow the service.

Mildred Harriet Waggoner

JANE LEW -- Mildred Harriet Waggoner, 79, of Essex, Md., died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Franklin Square Hospital Center, Rossville, Md.

She was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Freeport, Pa., a daughter of the late Paul Johnson Wilson and Olive Carey Wilson.

Her husband, George W. Waggoner, survives at 1488 Kent Road, Essex.

Also surviving are two daughters, Margaret Morley, Hollywood, S.C., and Dolores Small, Nutter Fort; one son, Raymond Waggoner, Burlington, Ky.; two sisters, Gealdean Myers and Virginia Pitts; one brother, Paul Wilson Jr.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Waggoner attended Freeport High School and was a computer operator at Baltimore County Courthouse.

Friends will be received at the Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew, from 10 a.m. - noon Wednesday, at which time a funeral service will be held at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Freemansburg United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Sadie Geneva Westfall

BELINGTON -- Sadie Geneva Westfall, 92, of the Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care Facility, Philippi, died early Saturday, March 31, 2001, in the Broaddus Hospital, following an extended illness.

She was born Jan. 12, 1909, in Belington, Barbour County, a daughter of the late Burton and Ida Mae Ware Everson.

Her husband, Olen Ray Westfall, whom she married March 17, 1926, preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1995.

Surviving are three daughters, Geneva Mae Thorne, Belington, Rose Marie Champ, Buckhannon, and Georgia Mary Watkins, Berlin, Pa.; two sons, William Warren Dee Westfall, California, and James Thayer Westfall, Williamsport, Md.; 39 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and 35 great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by five sons, Herman Ray Westfall, Hobert Roy Westfall, Burton Olen Westfall, Guy Allen Westfall and Jerry Meade Westfall; three daughters, Eulah Lee Westfall, Ida Belle Westfall and Marley Alice Westfall; two brothers, Elvin Everson and Herman Everson; and one sister, Rhoda Everson.

Mrs. Westfall was a homemaker. She was a former sorter for Goodwill Industries.

She attended the Weaver Church of the Nazarene.

Friends may call at the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel, Belington, from 4-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. Tuesday, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral chapel with the Rev. Doyle N. Rider officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery.
