Morgantown downs Indians

From Staff Reports

MORGANTOWN -- Morgantown rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Bridgeport, 7-5.

Dan Payne got the win in relief, allowing just one hit over two and two-thirds while striking out five.

Alan Robbins had two hits, including a double for the Indians (4-6), who played without junior Mike Honce.

Luke Becilla had three hits and drove in two runs for the Mohigans (7-2). Jason McDonald added two hits, and teammate Nick Miller had a solo home run.

Bridgeport returns to action at 4:30 p.m. Monday at South Harrison.

Prep softball

n LEWIS COUNTY 17, Elkins 0: Amy Davis' three-run double in the fourth inning ended Lewis County's runaway win.

Erika Pratt and Lindsay Casto added a pair of hits for Lewis County (9-2). Pratt also earned the win, allowing just one hit.

Jennifer Cook had a double for Elkins.

WVC baseball

n D&E SWEEPS BSC: Davis & Elkins followed a 9-8 victory over Bluefield State with a 13-6 win.

In the opener, Tom Close scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a squeeze play by Shaun Cullen. Close was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Teammate Zack Swisher also drove in two, and Joe Hruska was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

D&E's Kip Cottrill had three hits, three runs, two RBIs and two steals in the second game. Lucas Taylor was 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, and Rob Cook had a three-run triple.
