WEST UNION -- Clay County held off a late surge by Doddridge County to claim a 73-64 victory in the Little Kanawha Conference consolation round Friday.
Clay (6-11) was led by Jason Cantrell's outside shooting and the inside play of Jason Tucker and Evan Updegrave.
Cantrell scored a game-high 20, while Tucker and Updegrave had 17 and 14 points, respectively.
Cantrell hit three of his four 3-pointers in the first half to lead Clay to a 38-23 halftime lead.
After Cantrell scored his final 3-pointer, Doddridge (7-11) went a 9-0 run to pull within nine halfway through the third quarter.
The Bulldogs, behind Chris Mitchell's 16 points, rallied to within five with 1:30 remaining, but could not get closer.
Clay sealed the win at the foul line, hitting nine-of-12 shots.
"The biggest thing in this game was that the boys hustled the whole game and didn't quit," Clay County coach Dale Davis said.
Ben McKinney scored 11 points for Doddridge.
