FLATWOODS -- Darcie Ray Eagle, 86, of Burnsville, passed away Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Braxton County Memorial Hospital, Gassaway, following an extended illness.
He was born March 25, 1919, in Duck, a son of the late Joseph Eagle and Louisa Davis Eagle.
Surviving is his wife, Mabel Posey Eagle.
Also surviving are four daughters, Shirley Beard, Washington, Judy Eagle, California, Karen Moman, Arizona, and Janice Eagle, Washington; three stepdaughters, Melloney McClain, New Castle, Del., Barbara Ansol, Burnsville, and Olive Lemon, Gassaway; one son, Roger Eagle, Arizona; two stepsons, Douglas Henline, Normantown, and Dwight Henline, Howe; one sister, Phyllis Piggott, Duck; three brothers, John Eagle, Charleston, Oran Eagle, Falling Waters, and Kenneth Eagle, Cleveland, Ohio; seven grandchildren, 25 stepgrandchildren, 30 stepgreat-grandchildren and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.
Mr. Eagle was a retired steel worker, a World War II Army veteran and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was Baptist.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home, Flatwoods. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Tom Cayton officiating. Interment will be in Eagle Cemetery, Duck.
CLARKSBURG -- Ellen G. Pratt Hufford, 43, of 829 Milford St., Clarksburg, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2001, at her home.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, June 4, 1957, a daughter of the late Lawrence Sutphin II and Ethel M. Sutphin.
Surviving are two sons, Charles E. Pratt Jr. and Jason A. Pratt, both of Clarksburg; one brother, Albert Vincent, Tennessee; and one sister, Sharon Cottrill.
Mrs. Hufford was a homemaker and Methodist.
There will be no funeral home visitation. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
McGlumphy Funeral Home/Chapel, Clarksburg, is in charge of arrangements.
GRAFTON -- Dale W. Laulis, 62, of Route 2, Grafton, Spring Hill Development, passed away Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at West Virginia University Hospital, Morgantown.
He was born in Clemtown, Barbour County, June 20, 1938, a son of the late John T. and Cordie G. Moss Laulis.
Surviving is his wife, Sharon Keller Laulis, whom he married Aug. 22, 1957.
Also surviving are two sons, Dennis Mark Laulis and his wife, Mary, Sykesville, Md., and John D. Laulis and his wife, Julie, Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Samantha, Matthew, Lindsey and Cole Laulis; two brothers, Ward W. Laulis and his wife, Betty, Grafton, and his twin brother, Darl R. Laulis and his wife, Frances, Grafton; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Laulis retired as a ramp serviceman from Eastern Airlines Co. in Baltimore, Md., with 32 years of service.
He was a member of the Grafton Masonic Lodge No. 15, A.F.&A.M. He was Protestant.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Monday at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home, Grafton. The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. H. Edgar Suite officiating. Interment will be in Woodsdale Memorial Park. A Masonic graveside service will be conducted by Grafton Lodge No. 15, A.F.&A.M.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Ruth Berry Lawton, 95, of Jacksonville, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, in a local hospital.
She was born in Weston, W.Va., July 25, 1905, but had lived in Jacksonville most of her adult life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jennings Lawton, in 1945.
Surviving are one sister, Rebecca R. Gainey and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Lawton Taheri, in 2000.
Mrs. Lawton graduated with a nursing degree from Bellevue Hospital, New York City in 1935. After graduation, she was accepted as supervisor of nursing at Andersonville County Hospital, Andersonville, S.C.
In 1937, she moved to Jacksonville and took the position of superintendent of nurses at St. Luke's Hospital. From 1945-68 she held the title of superintendent at Hope Haven Children's Hospital, then located on Atlantic Boulevard.
During her administration, a new wing to the hospital was added, a new auditorium and a therapeutic swimming pool. She was active in volunteer work at St. Luke's Hospital following her retirement.
She was an active member of South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church since 1945.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Louis R. Lothman and the Rev. Stephen A. Hulsey officiating.

GRAFTON -- Thomas Owens, 77, of Knottsville community, Grafton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at his home.
He was born July 6, 1923, in Grafton, a son of the late Thomas W. and Bessie Ludwick Owens.
Surviving are his former wife, Mary Jean Tucker Owens, Florida; three daughters, Beverly Owens, Woodlawn, Va., Barbara Becker and husband, Larry, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Michelle Rispoli and husband, Bud, Holly Hill, Fla.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, C.F. Johns, Grafton, and Lee Johns, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and his companion, Janet Bolyard, Thornton.
Mr. Owens was a retired truck driver with more than 25 years of service at the St. Regis Paper Co., Grafton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II as a Tech 5 tank commander in the European Theater.
He was Protestant and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial City Post No. 3081, Grafton.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home, Grafton. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, with Pastor F. Ford officiating. Interment will follow in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown.
Full military rites will be accorded by VFW Memorial City Post No. 3081, American Legion Taylor County Post No. 12 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 24, Grafton, and their auxiliaries.
BELINGTON -- Edward Lee Price, 80, a lifelong resident of Route 92, north of Belington, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 21, 1920, near Belington, a son of the late Benjamin Harrison and Fannie Moore Price.
On Sept. 26, 1942, he married the former Dorothy Belle Ramsey, who survives at Route 2, Belington.
Also surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Roger Childers, Clarksburg, Sue and Dwayne Phillips, Belington, and Ann and Joe Friel, Martinsburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Jill Price, Belington; two nephews, Steve Price and wife, Cathy, and Kevin Price and wife, Penny, all of Belington; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Frank Neal Price and one sister, Blanche Murray.
Mr. Price attended the public schools in the Belington area. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army.
He was retired from Roth Construction as a mason and carpenter. He was a 20-year member of the Masonry Union, AFL-CIO. He was a lifelong member of the Sugar Creek United Methodist Church.
