Mabel Alberta Harris Randolph
SALEM -- Mabel Alberta Harris Randolph, 93, of E. High Street, died at her home Monday, June 18, 2001 under the loving care of People's Hospice. She was born May 6, 1908 in Ritchie County, near Pennsboro, the daughter of the late Albert and Alice Terry Harris. Her husband, Francis F. Randolph, whom she married Sept. 23, 1927 in Oakland, Md., preceded her in death May 25, 1996.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Eleanor Jean and Chester Underwood, of Salem, and Caroline and Hobson "Slim" Stalnaker, of Strasburg, Va.; nine grandchildren, Randy Underwood, Michael Underwood, Danny Underwood, Joe Underwood, Tim Underwood, Richard Randolph, Marguerite Randolph Riffle, Sara Beatty Voss, Martha Beatty Eyman; fifteen great-grandchildren, Brian Randolph, Elizabeth Underwood, Shannon Underwood, Sean Underwood, Aimee Underwood, Danny Underwood, Matthew Underwood, Michael Underwood, Kylee Underwood, Benjamin Underwood, Peter Voss Joel Voss, Julia Eyman, Isabella Eyman, and Caroline Eyman; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Emma Crowley, Edna Wright and Adah Harris.
Mrs. Randolph was a longtime member of the Salem Baptist Church and was co-owner of Randolph's Sales and Service for thirty-eight years. In 1925, at the age of sixteen, she graduated from Salem High with the highest grade average of anyone up to that time. Two years later, she graduated from Salem College. Her brief stint as a school teacher involved teaching at Salem Junior High and McClellan District School on Big Flint, a one-room school. She was a charter member of Salem Lioness Club and a member of Winnebago International Travelers. She and her husband enjoyed traveling extensively during their retirement years.
Friends may call at the Greathouse Funeral Home, Salem, Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., where funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Roger Fontaine presiding. Interment, beside her beloved husband, will be at the Salem I.O.O.F. Cemetery. It is the desire of the family, that in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to People's Hospice or Salem Baptist Church.

Earl Ross
WEST UNION -- Earl Ross, 80, of New Milton, died June 19, 2001, after an extended illness, at the Veterans Hospital in Clarksburg.
He was born Aug. 16, 1920, in Wilsonburg, a son of the late James Samuel and Cansada Skinner Ross.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Louise Jones Ross of Greenbrier County; two daughters, Samme Hart and husband, Aldine, and Brenda Cox and husband, Roger; two sons, Alvin Ross and wife, Karen, and Riley "Pete" Ross and wife, Danella; one sister, Gladys Bee of New Milton; sister-in-law Francis Ross of Detroit, Mich.; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two infant children, Peggy Earlene and George Preston; two sisters, Mae Scott and George Panetta; and four brothers, Walter, Stephen, Everett ("Cakes") and Paul Ross.
Earl began his working career at a young age as a member of the CCC's Camp Seneca and Camp Greenbrier at Hart's Run, of which he remained proud. He was a member of VFW Post No. 132 and was also an Army veteran of World War II, serving in England, France, Belgium and Germany. He then became a dozer operator and worked in southern West Virginia and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. He returned to Doddridge County and began working on numerous dam and road projects. He was a proud family man and hard worker. He worked the last few years at Willow Island Power Plant.
He loved having all those friends after many years of solitary work as a dozer operator. He has missed them and mourned them, and the family asks that in lieu of flowers, friends and relatives donate to the Lauer Project/Willow Island Memorial. Dominick 'Wig' Salentro
SHINNSTON -- Dominick "Wig" Salentro, 78, of Erie, died at 9:35 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001, in Fairmont General Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born in Monongahela, Pa., on March 10, 1923, a son of the late Constantino and Carmella Aremna Salentro.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Gonzalez Salentro, whom he married Feb. 21, 1946.
Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, John and Becky Salentro of Shinnston; one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Albert Trotta of Fairmont; five grandchildren, Joseph Trotta, Stephanie Hardman and her husband, Kevin, Gina Koski and her husband, Eddie, all of Fairmont, and Christopher and Jason Salentro, both of Shinnston; one great-grandson, Jeremy Hardman, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, William A. "Babe" Salentro, James "Jumbo" Salentro, Fred "Red" Salentro and John Salentro, and one sister, Rose Salentro.
Mr. Salentro was a coal miner, having retired from Eastern Coal Association, Federal No. 2 Mine. He was a former employee of the M&H Zinc Plant at Spelter. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local No. 1501, Shinnston, American Legion Post No. 31, Shinnston, Meuse Argonne Post No. 573, VFW, Clarksburg, and the Sons of Italy.
He had been a baseball coach for the Ziesing Babe Ruth team that went to the 1955 Babe Ruth World Series, winning third place. He coached youth baseball in the Babe Ruth and American Legion programs for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church at Spelter.
Friends may call at the Dorsey Funeral Home in Shinnston from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. today. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Shinnston, with the Rev. Father Karl Wohinc as celebrant. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Clarksburg. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel.

Miss Lennel Ann Stutler
JANE LEW -- Miss Lennel Ann Stutler, 89, of Jane Lew, died June 18, 2001, at the Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Weston.
She was born in Harrison County, a daughter of the late Daulphin Altice and Della May Furbee Stutler.
She is survived by special friends Judy Riley, Amy Campbell and Betty Jean Hughes of Huber Heights, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Andrew Stutler, and one sister, Mary Christine Stutler.
In 1930, she went to Hagerstown, Md., and entered the RTC of WCFL to study to become a librarian and graduated. In the fall of 1933 she went to work at the Lewis Bennett Library, where she worked for 41 years, 30 as head librarian.
In December of 1974, she retired from the Lewis Bennett Library to live at her home in Jane Lew. She was a member of the Library Association, Senior Citizens, AARP, and was very active in church, where she held many positions: communion steward, membership secretary, Sunday school teacher, president and treasurer of Christian Endeavor with the young people of the church. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at the Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew, from 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Dr. Edgar N. Howell officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery near Jarvisville. The casket will remain closed.

Randy R. Talkington
PHILIPPI -- Randy Russell Talkington, 43, of 27 S. Main St., Philippi, died at 6;10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following a brief illness.
He was born May 16, 1958, at Canton, Ohio, a son of Clifton Russell and Marilyn Ann Deckman Talkington, who survive at Philippi.
Also surviving are his wife, Theresa DeLauder Talkington; four stepchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathern and Carl Findley, Tina and Dave Watson, all of Philippi, Patricia and Wes Schwamb, Michigan, Larry Brian Talkington, Michael William Talkington, Clifton Eugene Talkington, all of Phillipi; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Talkington was a fomer lumber mill hand.
Friends may call at the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from 3-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, when funeral home services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in the Clemtown Cemetery.

Mabel L. Whelan
WESTON -- Mabel L. Whelan, 89, of 206 S. Main Ave., Weston, died at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at Crestview Manor Nursing Home in Jane Lew. She was born Oct. 15, 1911, in Charleston, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Maude McCloud Nixon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Whelan.
She is survived by two daughters, Pauline Jo Kurtz and Mary Catherine Chapman, both of Weston; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dannie P. Whelan, and one brother, Norman E. Nixon.
Mrs. Whelan was a glass decorator with West Virginia Glass Specialty Company in Weston and operated Whelan Tourist Home on South Main Avenue in Weston for many years. She was a member of the Theresa Snaith Auxiliary of the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital and the Broad Street United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 21 at Weston Masonic Cemetery with Rev. Clifford West officiating. Interment will follow the service.
