WHEELING -- Sara Ann Mayfield Spry, 60, of Valley Grove, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at home.
She was born Feb. 20, 1941, in Preston County, the daughter of the late Carroll W. and Mable Summer Mayfield Sr.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith. She had a special love for her husband, children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Mayfield.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Cleve Spry, whom she married July 2, 1960; three sons, Michael Spry, Baltimore, Md., Kevin Spry and his wife, Staci Marshall Spry, Wheeling, and Jeffrey Spry, Valley Grove; three brothers, Carroll W. Mayfield Jr., Dewayne Mayfield and Ronald Mayfield, all of Gypsy; four sisters, Lois Lanham, Shinnston, Shelby McIntire, Worthington, Deanna Haynes and Judy Zyvronic, both of Gypsy; six grandchildren, Michael Spry II, Brandi Sutton, Kayla, Natale, Rebecca and Christian Spry; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at the Dorsey Funeral Home, Shinnston. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Dorsey Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery, Shinnston.
Dorsey Funeral Home, Shinnston, and Kepner Funeral Home, Wheeling, are in charge of arrangements.
SALEM -- David Kent Underwood, 60, of Salem, died July 3, 2001, in his home in Doddridge County following an extended illness.
He was born July 10, 1940, in Doddridge County, a son of the late Orwin and Ruth Curry Underwood, both of Doddridge County.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Jacquin Underwood; four sons, Daniel Underwood, Keith Underwood, both of Parkersburg, Richard Underwood, Butch Underwood, both of Williamstown; two brothers, Donald Underwood, of Salem, Glen Underwood, of Weirton; one sister, Brenda Travis, of Salem; companion, Patricia Brown, of Salem; and six grandchildren, Stacy, Wendy, Ashley, Kayla, Julie and Amber Underwood.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Duke Underwood.
Mr. Underwood retired in 1995 from G.E. Plastics, Washington, after 33 years of service. He was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran and a Baptist by faith.
A memorial service will be held at the Vermont Baptist Church on Skeleton Run Road in Sedalia on Friday, July 6, 2001, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Merritt officiating. Family and friends are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Erickson Sports Complex Foundation.
