Obituaries for Monday, December 10, 2001

John Paul Arcipreti

SALEM -- John Paul Arcipreti, 69, of Route 5, died early Sunday morning, December 9, 2001, at United Hospital Center following an extended illness.

He was born September 2, 1932, in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Michael and Rose Pierro Arcipreti.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Hutson Arcipreti; one son, Steven Arcipreti and wife, Cheryl; three daughters, Mrs. Al (Angela) Guy, St. Marys County, Md., Ms. Paula Arcipreti, Odenton, Md., and Mrs. Daniel (Lisa) Cronin, Clendenin, WV; one brother, Robert M. Arcipreti, Silver Spring, Md.; and three grandchildren, Christopher Guy, Vincent Kindall and Eileen Cronin.

Mr. Arcipreti was associated with the Federal and D.C. Dept. of Transportation, with twenty-eight years service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Salem, and for several years was a Volunteer with United Hospital Center.

The body will be cremated with a Memorial Mass to be Celebrated at a later time.

Greathouse Funeral Home, Salem, is in charge of arrangements.

Van Arthur Blake

WESTON -- Van Arthur Blake, 55, of 433 Charles Street, Weston, WV, died at 1:10 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness. Born on December 30, 1945, in Lewis County, WV, he was a son of the late Clifford A. Blake and Edith J. (Cogar) Blake. On April 10, 1968, he married the former Viola Grace (Claypoole), who survives.

Survivors include two sons, Staff Sergeant Thomas Arthur Blake, Columbus, MI, and Douglas Ray Blake, at home; two daughters, Debbie Lynn Kene, Sissonville, WV, and Tracy Marie Shreve, Weston, WV; one brother, Danny Thomas Blake, Fairmont, WV; two sisters, Donna Marie Gadd, Pipestem, WV, and Diane Lynn Butler, Weston, WV; two granddaughters, Amanda Grace Kene and Cassandra Ann Shreve.

Mr. Blake was a tractor-trailer driver for Boyd Brothers with fifteen years' service. He also managed various restaurants such as Pizza Hut of Weston and Kingwood, Picnic Pizza of the Meadowbrook Mall and Showbiz Pizza. He was Mormon by faith.

Friends may call at the Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Avenue, Weston, on Monday, December 10, 2001, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. after the calling hours on Monday with the Reverend Robert A. Heater and Bishop Clyde Barber officiating. Boyle Funeral Home, Inc., of Weston is in charge of arrangements.

Tina Marie Book Pinn

FAIRMONT -- Tina Marie Book Pinn, 44, of 311 Home St., Fairmont, died at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center at Pittsburgh, Pa. She was born Feb. 16, 1957 at Clarksburg, a daughter of Rudy and Jane Book of Shinnston.

On May 22, 1993 she married Brian Pinn of Fairmont who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Adam Anderson of Fairmont; two daughters, Amanda Anderson and Brina Pinn, both of Fairmont; two brothers, Mike Book of Clarksburg and Tim Book of Shinnston; one sister, Nanci Book Keenan of Hurricane; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; her mother and father-in-law, Nancy and Tom Darden of Fairmont; two sisters-in-law, Genny Hall of Fairmont and Shelly Yost Brown of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Michael Darden of Barrackville; and her best friend, Betty Ann Laughlin Harris of Shinnston.

She was employed by the Marion County Board of Education for 22 years as a special education teacher at Barnes Elementary School in Fairmont.

She was a member of the Highland Avenue United Methodist Church, Fairmont.

She was a 1975 graduate of Shinnston High School and a 1979 graduate of Fairmont State College. She was always involved with her students and their families. She volunteered with the local Special Olympics and with the Bellview Girl Scouts of America.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tina Pinn Fund, c/o BB&T Bank, 120 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554.

Visitation will be at the Ford Chapel of the Ford Funeral Home Monday from 2-6 p.m. and Tuesday from noon until 2 p.m.

The funeral will be Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Ford Chapel with Pastor Chuck Jerman officiating. Entombment will be conducted in the Mt. Zion Cemetery and Mausoleum at Fairmont. Ford Funeral Home of Fairmont is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles R. Sears

SHINNSTON -- Charles R. Sears, 55, of Shinnston, died at 3:22 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2001, in the United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following a brief illness. He was born at Webster Springs, December 14, 1945, a son of Tony Rose, Shinnston, and the late Oma Sears Rose. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Karen D. Laughlin Sears, whom he married January 30, 1965; 3 sons, Scott Sears, David Sears, Nick Sears, all of Shinnston; 4 grandchildren, Amber Sears, Shalynn Sears, Shyann Sears, Colton Sears; 2 brothers, Nicholas Sears, Omaha, Nebraska, and Joe Sears, Shinnston. Mr. Sears was a coal miner for the Consolidation Coal Company, Robinson Run Mine, with 33 years service. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, Local #1501, the Sons of the American Legion, Post #31, the Moose Lodge, all of Shinnston, and the Meuse Argonne Post #573, V.F.W., Clarksburg, He enjoyed riding motorcycles and camping.

Friends may call at the Dorsey Funeral Home in Shinnston, from 6-9 p.m. Saturday and from 2-9 p.m. Sunday, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 10, with the Reverends David and George Hamrick officiating. Ronald L. Starkey

SHINNSTON -- Ronald L. Starkey, 65, of Route 2, Bridgeport, died at 5 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2001, at his residence following a brief illness. He was born at Rinehart, March 11, 1936, a son of Nellie Edgell Starkey, Lumberport, and the late Burkley Starkey. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Wilma Jean Sturm Starkey, whom he married December 25, 1954; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Sophie Starkey, Ann Arbor Trail, Michigan; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Jerry Hustead, Lumberport, Susan Marra, Bridgeport, Rhonda and James Hamilton, Bridgeton, New Jersey, Denise and Kevin Thomas, Bridgeport; 9 grandchildren, Melissa Hustead, Federal Way, Washington, Brian Hustead, Jamie Marria, both of Bridgeport, Leslie Marra, Morgantown, Frankie Marra III, Shinnston, Justin Hayes, Millville, New Jersey, Amie Hayes, Bridgeton, New Jersey, Benjamin Thomas and Nicholas Thomas, both of Bridgeport; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Nola and Robert Bacorn, Denver, Colorado; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by 1 granddaughter, Amien Leigh Starkey. Mr. Starkey retired from Lockeed-Martin, with 34 years service. He was a member of the Jewel City Church, Shinnston, the St. John's Lodge #24, A.F.&A.M., Shinnston, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He was a 1954 graduate of Lumberport High School and enjoyed traveling and being with his family. He also enjoyed walking at the Mall and riding bikes on the Rails to Trails, reading and gardening.

Friends may call at the Dorsey Funeral Home in Shinnston, after 12 noon Sunday, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 10, with Pastor Robert Shingleton officiating. Frank Anthony Zannino

CLARKSBURG -- Frank Anthony Zannino, 84 years old, of 258 Ocala Street, Clarksburg, W.Va., died early Sunday morning, December 9th, at the United Hospital Center.

He was born in Clarksburg, W.Va., on July 14, 1917, the son of the late Rocco and Sophia Zannino.

Mr. Zannino is survived by his wife, Stella Theresa Pandora Zannino, at home.

Other survivors include: One daughter, Linda Diane Brinkley of Bridgeport, W.Va.; two sons, Rockey Zannino of Quiet Dell, W.Va., and David Anthony Zannino of Clarksburg, W.Va.; two sisters, Mary Dosier and Angeline Crites, both of Clarksburg, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Heather, Brian, Elyssa, Devann and Alexis Zannino, and Tiffany and Ashley Brinkley; and two great-grandchildren, Holden Fraser and Bryce Zannino.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Pat, Sam and Ralph Zannino.

Frank was retired from Jerry Run Glass after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, the Marconi Lodge, Sons of Italy, VFW and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Frank enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Clearlite softball team.

The family will receive friends at the Bartolo Funeral Home, downtown Clarksburg, on Tuesday, Dec. 11th, from noon until 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Wednesday, Dec. 12th, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Edward Sabo, TOR, as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery. A scriptural wake service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon in the funeral home chapel.
